Sorry I late with this. Just read all.

Hoping everything goes well with the 2nd op.

Don't forget to take care of yourself. Understand how easy it is to
get lost in taking care of a loved one.

Here is a big hug for you and Jim :hug:

A cranberry pill? What? Really?

tkrik 05-15-2008 06:42 PM

Yup! Ask the uro about it. Although they do sell them at health food stores as well as pharmacies, I'd check with the doc as well. I know that there was some bad press about it when used in combination with meds (Coumadin/blood thinners). You can also ask the pharmacist.

I'm not familiar with those doctors Sandy, but maybe a fresh perspective from a new doctor will help Jim. As long as you didn't say Dr. Johnson. (He should have retired ten or more years ago.)

In the past I've taken cranberry capsules for preventing UTI's. They helped me when they were a problem for me. Maybe Jim should think about trying some? It's a common otc remedy. My MS neuro's nurse said they recommend patients take 500mg of vitamin C daily for prevention.

I'm guessing that the acidity keeps an unwelcome environment for bacteria growth in the urinary tract?

Hi Sandy,

I take AZO... I used to have UTI's often... haven't had one in ages now.

It's not very expensive and worth it for me.

sandy,

i think it's a great idea to get an outside opinion.
and with all the infections patients are exposed to in hospitals you'd think they would do anything reasonable to keep him out of one.

anxiously awaiting your reports.

I use that product too on the advice of my ob/gyn doc. Although I use AZO Yeast not cranberry. Not one UTI in over 3 years! Wonderful product!
