My DD and me had allergy test ran last week, I don't have them all back yet but I'm allergic to Sesame seed and HEAVLY allergic Wheat, I didn't have a clue (and trees and fungus and thing like that) and DD is allergic to Soy, Wheat, Peanuts (she's 8 and we are just NOW finding this one out) cats & dogs, we have a 5 year old cat be got at 6 weeks old.
Like I said I'm still waiting to get all of the test back but this is NOT the way I want to start my week off. I better get the other kids tested now.

Actually Julie, think positive. It is a good way to start out the week because now you know and can be more proactive at resolving it. As a result of taking care of things and eliminating foods that you are allergic to as well as some environmental things, your MCS should improve greatly.
BTW - Fungus is a mold. Remember what I had posted about mold and toxins. It can get bad and make you feel so horrible. Depending on the mold that you are allergic to, once you control it within your environment you will feel A LOT better. |

i fixed the title julie.
the mold problem is rampent here. with the rains and flooding we had last year, many are finding it hidden in their homes. the ac and it's duct work can be really bad at harboring and breeding it. i'm dealing with that here in the townhouse and getting no where with the landlord. this is a good starting point. i know it's hard, but keep positive and think of what you and dd can have. they do make wonderful pastas not made from wheat. breads too.

You'll be surprised at how many places mold can hide out actually. For me the Fall is the worst because the leaves on the ground trap moisture. Who'd have thunk? I rake as soon as they fall, 10 times if that is what is needed.
I can stand 10 - 20 ft from any mold source and smell it. Some allergies are more troublesome (for me it's mold and feta cheese), but fortunately I can avoid those pretty easily. My daughter was born allergic to virtually EVERYTHING; wheat, grass, mold, dust, eggs, the color "red" dye in foods, fruit that grew on a bark tree . . . , etc. About the only thing she could eat for the first two years, was tropical fruit and pickles. I couldn't even nurse because the allergens would come through, and she mostly lived on "pre-digested" formula throughout that time. Her room had to be spotless, with carpets removed, no toys, cleaned daily, walls washed weekly. Once I knew what she was allergic to though, I slowly introduced those things back into her life (ONE AT A TIME!). Allergies have a "barrel effect", whereby one allergen can be ok, but a combination will "fill the barrel". A GREAT book is "Is This Your Child": http://www.amazon.com/This-Your-Chil.../dp/0688119077 NOTE: Apparently our allergens change every 7 yrs too. Cherie

I understand about the cumulative affects of allergens.
I didnt know I was allergic to dogs until TinyMonsters died. After he died, my allergies seemed to get better. I'm starting to notice some of them returning, but it seemed like allergen + dog = worse allergic reaction. There were foods I was eating that dont bother me now, but when Tiny was around, I was getting hives after eating those foods. (italian seasonings and tomatoes were two of them) Now that there are no clumps of dog hair the size of small puppies rolling thru the house like tumbleweeds, I can eat italian foods again. I'm being careful with the seasonings tho. My sister (lives in another state) just discovered that she has a serious allergy to anything with tomato and any type of peppers like bell pepper. Which means she's had to get rid of a lot of processed foods, because some processed frozen foods have bell peppers in them. This may actually be a good thing. She and her husband are learning to make what sounds like really good food at home. Which, I think, means they're learning to eat healthier. I'm being a lot more careful with what I eat now. I also need to be careful with cleaning products used in our home. The cleaning company my parents hired to clean the house were here today. They fired the girl that used to clean our house, so the owner is going to be cleaning our house from now on. I'm going to have to find out what one of the cleaners were, it's got a flowery smell, and whatever it is, it's making me sneeze, and cough tonight. My eyes are dry, and I'm getting a headache...and it's not going away. I may have to open a window tonight to get the smell out of here. I figured out why my feet itched when I walked barefoot in the upstairs. The person who got fired by the cleaning company was using straight Lysol on our floors. Didnt dilute it at all. Found out it had built up on our tile entryway. That's also the reason why the floors were always sticky upstairs. My mom had tripped a couple times on the floors after they were cleaned...the cleaning solutions were undiluted and left residue that got sticky when it was dried.

Hi Julie,
I found out I'm allergic to cats, shellfish, cinnamon and dairy among other things. I still have a cat. I really miss deep fried jumbo shrimp though! Try not to worry about it too much as long as there aren't life-threatening reactions...
