Aw Frank, I'm so sorry this is happening! I know that there are substitute meds for most that cost a lot less but do about the same thing. I'd ask your doctor and/or pharmacist about those. Also, Walmart and Walgreens both have reduced costs on lots of common meds.

If there are expensive meds that you can't substitute, you can often get them for free or reduced cost from the pharmacy company.

unfortunately her meds dont have generics i did some math work if we can get over inital hump of no funds and spread the orders out between a 3 month period we might be able to do it down the road its just he initial cost is gonna hurt, so am thinking of staggering the orders so every month we pay x amount, i have no idea what else to do.

and eveyone i am sorry to rant it just so ticked me off this morn, not a happy way to start the day

You should ask about low cost meds on the Medication forum too.
Check the sticky on Medication forum too - free or discount meds info might be listed there.

I remember some mentioning www.needymeds.com - i think it's the name.

If you contact the actual company that makes or distributes the med you can sometimes get help that way.

Frank, tell Deb to ask her doctors if they have samples. Often times the drug companies leave behind lots and lots of samples. I know my doctor gave me samples once that covered my meds for almost three months! It never hurts to ask - and the doc might know of a free or reduced cost program ya'll could qualify for.

Don't let this get you all stressed.....there is a solution....you just have to find the best one for you. And do not stop taking your meds...either of you. Research the links Jo offered - there is help out there.

Frank, are you sure it's not cheaper to do the mail order? My insurance has the option and it's actually cheaper if I did the three month at a time. As it is right now I go to the local pharmacy because it's easier and I like having my meds in hand. I should do it though now that funds are getting more scarce around this house. Now I just have to convince my doc to write a script for a year rather than every three months so I am sure not to be left without meds.

My cost breakdown.

Local pharmacy: $22 a month for name brand, non formulated, $3 for generics and $9 for namebrand approved meds every month.

Mail in: $22 every three months for name brand, non formulated, $3 every three months for generic and $9 every three months for name brand approved meds.

They offer this to save the insurance company more money by using a pharmacy that is cheaper.

Hey Frank. I've worked with Doctors for years and we had closets and cupboards stuffed with free medications from drug reps.

They are given to the doctor free so there is no cost for him to give them to you.

If Deb goes to her doctor, have her explain the situation to him or her and ask if she could switch her meds to meds the docs have.

Most of the time docs can do this if they have sample meds that are the same type as what the patient is taking.

Give it a try.

My parents did it and they get most all their meds free. My dad even gets his insulin free. (when he had to pay for it, it cost $700.00 month)

Good Luck I know what you are going through
