Default Twink, MRIs, and Olive Oil - Tip of the Day

I learned something yesterday . . .

I had my MRI yesterday. Hating to get MRIs, I followed the instructions they gave me to a T, well almost.

They say, clean dry hair with no styling products, no make up, no deodorant, no lotions, etc. I have long hair, fine yet I have A LOT of it. It is also very dry due to our climate in the desert. Knowing that it was going to take a while to dry it, I planned for it. I got out of the shower and attempted to comb this mass on my head. It wasn't going well without my detangler. OUCH!

Then, it hit me, my brilliant idea - olive oil. I use it once a week as a deep conditioner and it works great. (I also use it at night as a moisturizer for my face. It's wonderful and cheap.) So, I thought why not use it now so that I can comb out my hair and with having to dry it completely with the hair dryer it, hopefully, won't damage it as much. On goes the olive oil, hair got combed, and then dried.

DD18 was my designated driver. She went down, got my happy pills, came back, and we left in a hurry as I was going to be late. On the way there I panicked. What if you can't go in the MRI because of the olive oil. (This was an anxious thought, I know). I couldn't call the place as 1) we were in the car on the way and I didn't have the number and 2) let's face it I was a little embarrassed by my possible stupidity. So I make a call to a smart NT bud that may know the answer.

"Twink? Hi. . . . .*tkrik explains her predictament*"

*Twink laughs*

The point of all of this is yes, you can use the olive oil prior to an MRI. So if you have long hair/dry hair and or skin, you can use the olive as a moisturizer before going.

That's my tip of the day. LOL

Wow I wasn't given any directions before my MRI. I do regret not taking out my contacts prior to having it done. But it wasn't as bad as when I painted the ceiling and started seeing spots.

And my tattoo didn't explode either! I miss all the fun!

I never have to do anything special for MRI's either. I do my hair normally with lots of styling products (conditioner, leave-in conditioner, hair spray, etc.) and I wear make up and everything.

Me, too. I never have any special instructions...except no barrets or hair pins. Nothing metal...and no bra with an underwire in it (I learned that the hard way...).

The only test I had to have done where I had to have clean dry hair and no lotions, makeup or other substances on my skin was the one where they glue those electrodes on your head and other parts of your body (arms, legs, etc.). I cannot remember what the test was....I just remember all the gunk left in my hair. But MRI's are easy for me....just gotta remember the bra.....

Well, I am certainly getting ripped off on my vanity. LOL It is frightful for me, no wait others, for me to leave the house without make up on.

I think it is just the people doing the scheduling. The radiology place I go to has like 7 places around town and "centralizes" their scheduling. They must have a standard "read to the patient" prep stuff. I have been using this place for the past 5 years as they have the best set of radiologists as well as MRI machines in town.

Next time, I am going to make myself more presentable. If they can't do it because I have make up on, well I get a free "happy" day from my "happy" pill. LOL

Yep, the only instructions I ever had was no metal.

Been shooting the tube so much, I have my MRI outfit. Sweatpants with no metal, sports bra, Oversized socks (my feet won't stay still with shoes).

Need an outfit like the bobsled team has maybe??

Fin - They let me keep my pants on (jeans) but I had to take everything on the top off and put on what seemed to be an extra large hospital gown. That was a challenge as by this time I was feeling pretty good. DD18 was cracking up as she was helping me fix it because it kept falling off and I didn't notice.
