many have got the software off ebay. But if disabled you might be able to qualify for it in some way - but I'm not sure how to go about that -maybe the link has info on that too. I do know a good Mic and a good sound card are important for best results with VR software programs. I added a post and links about adaptive tech and comp/disability on the work comp forum - here's the link to it also - http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=14111

Just to add:
IF you are going to training, school, or working and need equipment in our area, office of vocational rehabilitation is our resourse. They will pay for equipment, software, schooling, training at certified programs. I had half my college paid for, a laptop, software for voice regocnition, and all in one printer with software to use OCR opitcal character recognition. I can scan any document iand it will turn it into an editable word doc. or into a form that I can use highlighted areas as a template entry. I used this for approx. 10 years now and was extremly helpful fo all my life challanges. I just never seem to use my voice when I am o the forum or chat.... Look in you telephone book under rehabilation or call your local social security office to find a program that can help you. If you receive SSDI SSI already you qualify. Dianne

Just in the nick of time! I have spent way too much time today struggling with this dumb iListen! I should take it back I guess and see if it is defective. I am using the microphone that came with it that picks up everything but what I say, as in the chair moving or me breathing when I am not even speaking! ( It has that little monitoring box where you can watch and check your progress...or lack there of!)
Arrrrgghhh! ![]() Thanks ladies!! Cala |

Hi Jo...wondered if we've ever had a thread comparing different versions of Dragon or various other VR programs. I'd like to get one, can't afford the newest version right now, but would be interested in reading some reviews and/or hearing from you guys what kind of experiences you've had with them.
I have a newer (1.5 yrs. old) Gateway laptop I would be using it on...I don't know much about the sound card, but have good RAM and processor speed, I think. Any advice would be appreciated! |

I have the newest vesion of Dragon (Dragon Naturally Speaking 9) and I have found since I have bought a upgraded headset it is by Logitech it picks up my word very well it doesn't write down outside words or misinterpret many.
Just a thought.. It was a bit pricey.. I think I paid about $60.00 for it but it made a huge differance.. Plus it doesn't sqeeze your head as it sits behind your ears and it's light. I use it on both my Desktop and Laptop.. I found mine at Compusa.. http://www.compusa.com/products/prod...tebook_Headset

a comparison link-
http://www.consumersearch.com/www/so...are/index.html http://www.pcworld.com/browse/1275/topic.html?page=1 http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,4830,00.asp I have 512k ram and plenty of virtual ram on the harddrive -and Via Voice bogs down the whole system- even loading the webpages. ![]() but it does have good comprehension of words and speech with my sound blaster sound card and a Plantronics headset/mic I did try it with a cheaper sound card and the recognition was terrible- so that does make a difference too.
