Hurts thinking about doing a push-up.

Caution you doing them as a TOS PT has instructed me to avoid all hands and knees on ground positioning. A push-up would place you on all fours. I sense it's not the place to be with TOS.

Is right. I think if you have tos, dont even attempt them.
Though Im not, nor was I ever a "wimp" I was unable to do many push ups even as a teenager....never knew why there were many things like that when i was younger...but it was all part of the bigger picture revealed later in life. I wouldnt dream of even trying one now.
Anne is right even being on all fours is not a place for someone who has tos.

It's just a very strenuous position for many of us, holding the head out/up at that angle puts so much more strain on the upper back muscles as well as the neck muscles.

possibly the girl version might be doable for some of us..

muscles involvoed with basic push-ups
Pectorals Major (chest)
shoulders
triceps
abs and supporting muscle group (body core)
Back muscles - and stability muscles
neck/traps muscles to support the average human head (weighs between 8 and 14 pounds)
plus arm, elbow, etc

Pretty much all of these are affected /changed /not normal when we have TOS...

I can't do them at all and even the thought of them hurts my shoulders

Default the plank

i occasionally do the plank. doesn't hurt but not strong enough to hold it for more'n a few seconds. it is more like a let down than a push up. i go into it from downward dog. i could not do downward dog at first either.

Doing any kind of exercise for the pectorals, including push-ups and bench-presses results for me in horrible pain in the rhomboids, not immediately, but later in the day and for several days. It also provokes a less intsense flare up of pain in the cervical neck and delts.

I have not experimented with performing a pectorals exercise with my torso position vertically rather than horizontally. I am not optimistic that the outcome would be much different.

However, I can perform the Yoga poses of Cat, Downward Facing and Upward Facing Dog without any apparent contraindications. Odd.

Yoga is good. It was difficult at first, too. You grow into things.

Push-ups... ugh ! ! !

I'm going to try the old compound bow and arrow if I can talk hubby into bringing it out of the building. He just keeps giving me that deer-looking-in the-headlight stare when I ask him to go get it.

I'm gonna and I know it's gonna hurt.
