Hello everyone!
I thought it might be interesting to note how many of us use speech recognition software on our computers or would like to because of typing/computer-induced pain caused by our TOS but have not made the investment yet. I think it goes a long way towards illustrating our level of functional disability, if even just to ourselves. ![]() BTW, this poll doesn't display who voted, just the choices. Take care! I voted that I used it - but I bought it years ago when I thought I only had RSI and now I only use it during occasional "bad" times.
Most of the time I type with the built in Firefox browser spell check. I have more problems getting my fingers to hit the right keys than any actual pain now. A lack of fine finger dexterity ![]()

I don't have any.... yet.. Thought about gettting it b/c of finger pain and lack of fine dexterity (like Jo mentioned). Only potential road block - I mumble, which has to be the Speech software equivalent of hitting the wrong keys.

While I can't go back to writing computer code using speech recognition without having some sort of human/computer breakdown, I have found it immensely helpful, especially with my finger, hand, and wrist pain that typically sets in as soon as I start typing. Lately I've put a little wedge under the front of my keyboard (an ergonomically split one with raised keys and a touchpad) that has allowed me a little more typing time. I still don't have the upper arm or even forearm strength to allow much more without negative repercussions to my poor wrist tendons, but just being able to type once in awhile really helps speed up the process!
I'm glad to see that plenty of you here use the software as well, as it really does take a major strain off the upper body! Melissa |
