Default PCS and Fatigue

I am now 2 months in since my accident and seem to tire quite easily. I come home from working light duty at work (usually 1-2 hrs) then seem to fall asleep for about 2 hours when I get home. Is this common among PCS sufferers? I don't sleep well at night anymore either.

I still tire easily, it's been almost 7 months since my accident. It has improved gradually over time. I was also found to be low thyroid and Vit D, correcting those things helped with energy. I still need a lot of sleep (sometimes 12 hours) and rest though. I also had a hard time sleeping at night. It has gotten better over the months. I take melatonin about an hour before bed, I think it helps me fall asleep better. Sometimes I still randomly wake up during the night and have a hard time getting back to sleep, not a problem I had prior to the injury. From what I understand, if you feel like you need the sleep/rest you should try to give it to yourself, it will only help. Best wishes!

Thank You BeccaP! I don't have trouble going to sleep as much as it is that I wake up often throughout the night. When I arrive for work for my light duty chores which is nothing more than pushing a broom I find after 30 minutes or less at times I start getting fatigued, then when I get home I have to lay down. I do suffer from a lot of dizzyness and constant ringing in my ears , which all seems to lead to the fatigue. Just feels like I am going crazy at times!

I don't have a hard time falling asleep it's staying asleep that is the problem. after working light duty at work just pushing a broom around for 1-2 hrs. a day I get very fatigued. I also have lots of dizzyness and constant ringing in my ears that drives me crazy, which I am sure is adding to the fatigue. Just want to get back to being normal!

YES! The fatigue and sleep issues have been terrible for my daughter. My daughter is 6.5 months out and the fatigue is still an issue for her. She has a terrible time getting up in the AM. It's the gating factor to getting her back to school. If she doesn't get enough sleep, she barely functions. It has gotten a much better over time.

Some people have found amitriptyline helpful with the sleep issues and headaches. My daughter used trazodone and it helped somewhat. We've tried melatonin and it didn't help her.

Also with the fatigue - I don't think most people get it. It's really different than the fatigue that we all get that we can push through. It's very debilitating.

I can relate, the dizziness and nausea take a lot out of me too, it is draining and very unpleasant. Maybe even the light duty chores are too much for you at this point. I feel a little crazy at times as well, sometimes thinking that it can't really be that bad and surely I'm just being a wimp or imagining things, then I push a little and am reminded that yes, it actually is that bad, and I need to stop pushing. I'm getting smarter about that though. The sleep issues have improved for me over the months. I never tried to get any sleep stuff from my doc but maybe you should ask, it may help you get more rest which will help your recovery. Don't feel guilty when you need to lay down, just do it, you need to give yourself time to heal. Hang in there!
