I will put on the latest facts.
February 4-10, a fantastic week, i felt really well all week, didnt had headaches and any problems, was able to do everything i wanted, still didnt do anything physical as requested by neurologist. February 11, felt amazing and made a stupid decission to go to nightclub, really stupid decission, but im a pretty bad person when it comes to things like that, especially since im very young and used to do it every week. Drinked 3 drinks of absint and couple other drinks still felt fine, afterwards went home to sleep. Weird is i need 1 drink and i wont feel any pain in head. February 12, woke up with hangover as it should be just like it was before the injury. Slept a bit more then usually. February 13, hangover was gone, i felt good again just like before that night. February 14 went fine not that good but fine, but i felt terrible in february 15, had headache again and i felt very weak, still was able to comunicate and do everything else, had the same problems with shoulders and neck as usually. It started right before my physical therapist appointment. February 16 (today) , Physical therapists appointment (ill have 9 of them summary) We had 45min training and it went fine my shoulders and neck felt better, i got tired really fast, next appointment is on 21 of february, when i got home my head felt terrible again, cause its really warm inside the rooms i really cant handle warm rooms but i must, it was fine outside till i got home, im just getting really tired from walking. Couple of hours ago got depressed, when im touching my head i can feel that my right side were is 6x8 mm injury is way bigger then left side, and its way hotter. Really makes me nervous. And i was reading about NUCCA, people starts to think im crazy and me either, when i touch the back of the neck i can feel that theres something on left side, i think its C1, its more on left side then right and it hurts. I did Computed tomography for Neck C1-C7 they told its fine i guess im getting crazy. I can think i can speak, comunicate, people cant even notice that i have had concussion, only current symptoms are small diziness sometimes, but big headache, shaking has stopped, my legs starts to shake when i only get tired, i can watch tv a lot if i want to, i can sit at pc if i want to, it doesnt get worse from them, seems i have rested enough. Im not taking any medicine at the moment, taking only B12 and B6 vitamins. Really depressed, im living in weakest economical country in Europe - Latvia, im paying for all medicine myself, government is terrible here, if you dont have money for medicine they wont provide you with it..... |

Every time you get drunk, it is like getting hit in the head again.
I have a hard time offering help to someone who gets drunk while still needing to recover from Post Concussion Syndrome. Understanding what symptoms are from the alcohol and which are PCS is very difficult. The pollution to your brain caused by the alcohol makes offering any advice like paddling up stream, the slightest break in discipline takes you backward and getting drunk is like breaking your paddles. It sounds like your PT may be too oriented to stretching for range and motion rather than releasing spasming muscles allowing mobilization of frozen joints. Until the vertebra are correctly aligned, it is hard to get the range of motion back. Do you have access to a spine rehab clinic with PT's and chiropractors and maybe a physiatrist with better skills? You B-6 and B-12 are likely barely enough to help your brain deal with the alcohol. Are you taking any other vitamins or supplements? I expect you already understand this but just need a bit of reminding. Rest up. Get good nutrition and try to find some care that understands concussion oriented cervical care. And wait to go drinking until after you have been symptom free for a few months. Even then, you should cut back on your drinking to avoid getting drunk or buzzed. You will risk a return to full PCS if you don't. My best to you.

Let me give you some advice that is coming from my personal experience with alcohol.
I started drinking a month after my injury. At that time, I was only suffering from very minimal symptoms...much like the ones you described. Occasional dizziness and mild headaches. I started drinking pretty heavily...2 months later, I woke up and the world came crashing down on me. You see all those symptoms in my signature? I'm not 100% certain when I say this, but I do very much believe the alcohol played an important part in why my recovery took a turn for the worse. There is somebody else on this forum that had a similar experience with alcohol and his recovery. I would stay away from alcohol. At least for now. It sounds like you have more anxiety than depression. Anxiety is constant worry about something...it sounds like your worrying about there being something wrong with your neck. I'm not really sure what a tomography is, so I can't comment on that...but if you want peace of mind I would seek a chiropractor and gets some x-rays done. They will be able to tell you if there is something wrong with your neck. In the mean time, try not to worry too much about it. There is nothing you can do about it right now. Save up some money, go see a chiropractor, get peace of mind. Good luck.

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain. Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms. Slowly but surely regaining my life back. |

I am sorry you are depressed. It is good that you found Neuro Talk. I do think Mark is right, that you should not drink at all while you are in recovery, and trying to heal. That is defeating your purpose. I know you are young. I am not, and I have had my share of drinking in my youth. It is not worth the risk to your health to do it. I hope you have a good PT. I am not familiar of course with how your country works its medical programs. If you have a family doctor who could refer you to a specialist, maybe you could get more help. Even in our country, I had to pay for all my medical problems before I was declared disabled. It broke the bank. I hope you can get more help. Do your self a favor, and think of your life as a whole. Don't have a set back and use your youth as an excuse for drinking while you have an injury. Your brain needs to heal. Depression comes along with being injured. No matter what condition you have, that can happen. I hope you have some friend that will support you, and a family who cares. I will be here anytime you need to talk. Depression can get better, and that will happen quicker when you begin to heal your body. Please be good to yourself today. I do wish you all the best Ziggo. ginnie
