Default Hang in there.

I haven't been back for a while. It's been 18 months since my accident. I can say now that I'am 90 percent healed and getting better every day.

I have all the symptoms. Everything from depression to vertigo and the brain fog (by the way the worst and longest lasting symptom for me). I had setbacks and had to start from the beginning a couple times.

I thought life wouldn't get better. Things turned slowly but they did. Before my accident I was super active. Played every sport. Pretty much everyday I was involved in a sport.

I took it very slow. Almost too slow I think. I'am now going to the gym daily, workIng on my cardio and minimal weights. I'am almost where I want to be. I can work out at an hr above 160 for 30 minute straight. I couldn't tell you how good it felt to run for the first time in over a year.

I'am social again, I get out and enjoy the occational wobbly pop. I just wanted to tell my story because I was at such a dark time in my life and I have came out of it.

Just hang in there. Life is good.

yay! Thank you! So glad to hear your story too. I was very active too, so I am still at the "taking it too slow I think" stage.

Good to hear that it can turn out where you are at! Congratulations!!!!!!!!

Thanks Rob. Our stories are similar (20 months post-accident here), although as a well qualified member of AA I won't be having any "wobbly pops"!

Miracles happen, thanks for sharing your story with us.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.

I am happy to hear that you can exercise again. I used to be very active myself until this nightmare started.

A few questions!

Does your exercise induce symptoms? If so - how long do they last?

What helped?
What hindered?

How did you get your concussion?

How severe were your symptoms?

Thanks! We are all hunting for hope on here!

I got my concussion from a freak accident playing hockey. Didn't even realize I had one until 1 week after. From there my symptoms got progressively worse for about 6 months. The symptoms plateaued for the next 6 months. I didn't see any progress until the new year.

I tried many thing for help. I did the cranial sacral therapy, neuro feedback, massage therapy. Those all gave me temp relief. The neurologist, who was the top guy on BC didn't help me at all. He gave me nothing but a 9 month wait list.

Excercise almost made me feel better. I would go for walks from day one. I then strted on a stationary bike. Maybe 10 minutes a zero resistance. 6 months later I'm at biking for 30 min at a high resistance. Also have been going for 5km jogs.

I had more vestibular problems. Headaches are pretty much gone. Funny thing was I got one yesterday. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a headache. I would do some vestibular therapy which helped. Now I'm doing nothing other than exercise and trying to forget the year I lost.

Default Post PCS

I am glad to hear such a positive story gives me hope. I am still fumbling in the dark and trying to figure out if that light out there is the end of the tunnel or a floater. LOL
