Thumbs up final hurdle?

Hi all.
I am almost 4 months into my PCS symptoms, and 5 months since my concussion. I have shown a huge improvement in the last 2 weeks! My brain fog and confusion has lifted, I no longer have bad anxiety or fatigue and my irritability had improved. I still however have daily headaches but they are lessening in severity. I have had a few hours in the past couple of weeks which I feel almost completely normal! Which I’m sure is a good sign.

My question today is…. What can I do to get over the final hurdle?? I feel like in the next few weeks/month I could be symptom free, but I want all the help I can get. Any tips/ stories that can help the symptoms subside and stay away as much as possible?

Keep getting plenty of quiet rest. Ice your upper neck too. Your brain needs time, not effort. Even when you feel back to normal, wait TWO months before you return to full activity, social life, partying, drinking, heavy physical activity. Just take it easy so you do not relapse. Constantly relapsing is a miserable life.

Otherwise, you will likely be riding a roller coaster for many months.

Thanks Mark,

I will be sure to take it easy, after i feel normal. I will start to ease into things, talking to friends a little more, but no partying and drinking for a while. I want to slowly ease back into physical activity. I am swimming afew times a week now, but want to slowly increase this. I am hoping to come out of this ordeal as a better more patient person!

I would suggest to keep doing what you're doing until you are symptom free.

If your current formula for improvement is working...just stick with it. Just be careful, even when you are symptom free you'll have to EASE back into normal life. If you try to jump right back in the water, you're risking a "relapse", or a return of symptoms.

Godspeed in your recovery....

Nick

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI.

Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain.

Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms.

Slowly but surely regaining my life back.

Thanks Nick,

I am taking the next two weeks off work which I think will help a huge amount in my recovery, and like you said just slowly ease back into things. How are your symtoms at the moment Nick?, I hope your having a 'good' day.

how common are relepses and have you experienced them??

I'm also wondering this. I plan to get back to my normal life (heavy school workload, working, hopefully exercising) by the end of january, as I, too, am at that final hurdle.

Hi Peter. I've had PCS since mid-October. I started off with headaches, nausea, severe sensitivity to light and noise, short-term memory problems, and fatigue. I felt like I was constantly drunk for the

The headaches went away after I got a glasses prescription. Turns out I've been far-sighted this entire time. Now I'm just dealing with tinnitus, and an inability to exercise intensely or be around "loud" situations. No partying for me. I don't think I'll drink for a long time. I had a few sips of sake at Thanksgiving and it made me have that same "out of it" feeling. Likewise I went to a party (sober) on Nov. 30th and felt nauseated and dizzy during. Big headache after.

That said, I can now read, do school work, and watch TV/movies without problem.

Hi again stupid rugger!
Ive had pcs since September. My concussion was a month before that. Ive had a prescription test, I wish my headaches were due to my eyesight! Turns out I have great vision! Is it possible I still need glasses for computer use etc>?? I have shown huge improvement in the last few weeks. I am able to do most tasks, work, exercise, watch tv. However I tend to get a headacxhe when im over stimulated eg with lots of people, but they are getting better. I am at the point where I feel like I will be symptom free in a matter of wweeks / months if I keep going at this rate.

Are you hoping for a full recovery? How far off do you think you are>>

Great, Peter! It's nice to know someone is getting better. Yet, I still can't understand why I can't get over any hurdles after nearly 1.5 years despite my resting. Most of my symptoms just seem to linger and never get substantially better. My best to you.
