In January 2012, I had a fall and suffered a head injury. Whilst I have had visits to my family doctor (GP). He has been reluctant to suggest any treatment or therapy until I have been assessed by a specialist.
Last year was so frustrating being off work with an idea what was wrong but without a formal diagnosis. After over a year of my GP writting letters out of the blue an appointment arrived to see a Neurologist. The name of the Neuro was not on the local hospital panel so I googled his details. A rather eminent Neurologist whom has published many papers, head of the practice in one the UK's top Brain and Neurological hospital. So far so good. After reading my notes and a brief chat he came straight to the point – you’ve obviously had a head injury and suffering from the post -concussion effects. He went on to say that the CT scan was clear and that whilst he could order other scans it will only confirm much the same. Since I had been making good progress over the year he wouldn’t suggest any medication – just carry on with what I was doing and give it another 6 months off work. Although quite a simple diagnosis I am quite pleased that it wasn’t a battle and the Neuro could see the injury was genuine and not linked to depression.
