First of all im going with the Nucca approach because my neck has been sending shooting pains to my head and i also feel im getting migraines from it
I went to my chiropractor a month ago and he specializes in NUCCA. what concerned me from the start is he never even took xrays he just fumbled with my posture and hips and said he new what he wanted to do since my start i told him i want to focus on my atlas and he keeps focusing on my posture. ive went 5 times so far in 3 WEEKS and he says i need to keep coming twice a week. all he does is have me stand on a scale then lays me on a table and does these weak massages to my neck and it takes like 10 minutes then sends me on my way. its getting expensive and time consuming and im really thinking i could go to another chiropractor and he could fix me in one session my posture does feel better but he hasnt done anything for my neck. im thinking about going to a real chiropractor not a NUCCA to get xrays done and get this neck snapped back into place what should i do? |

Pick one your PCP recommends. If your gut feeling says he isn't any good, go with those feelings. Usually when we follow our instincts they are correct. Research first before you choose another. No sense in going if there reallys isn't much help and just alot of money spent. I do wish you all the best, and some kind of resolution for your pain. ginnie

I would never talk chiropractic with a PCP. Some will refuse to continue to treat you if they know you are being treated by a chiro.
NUCCA treatments are very gentle. Mine does a gentle pressure on my upper neck behind my ear. He does this over and over, about 10 times. His wrist/hand pops during the treatment. The NUCCA x-rays are very expensive. About $300 to $400. The posture checking and weight checking is standard for NUCCA. I would not want a chiro to pop my neck. The atlas to occiput does not correct by a twist and pop adjustment. It is not held by mechanical joint shape. It is held by ligaments only. Twist and pop is for C-2 and lower. The Activator technique can help with atlas to occiput. Does your NUCCA have you ice after each treatment ? He should. It takes about 6 weeks for the ligaments to strengthen to hold atlas in proper position. The icing reduces and slows the inflammation from each adjustment which allows the ligaments to strengthen better. You also need to be very disciplined with your head and neck posture to get the best benefit from NUCCA. If you sleep in crooked positions, you will undo the adjustment.

Mark has it exactly right, NUCCA are extremely gentle that's how it works plus if they're rough they can do a lot of damage.
I saw one for a while he had me come in on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a few weeks straight, i think the reason for visiting like that may be to i guess retrain your muscles etc to stop letting your bones slip out of place hell if i know lol no xrays, that is weird, mine took several and in many positions. I'd do some digging n snooping around online on that specific NUCCA chiro look for reviews etc etc, personally i do serious digging on any doc i see Next time you see him tell him your concern, that you do not feel any significant improvements and that its getting expensive that way he can alter what hes doing, he may even be taking it easy on you so he doesn't hurt you but if you let him know what he IS doing isn't helping much he can switch things up, always keep an open dialogue with your docs, they don't know whats going on if you don't say something

Dear Claritan,
i think that right from the start your chiropractor did not respond well to your concerns, by focussing on posture and by leaving doubts in your mind as to why he did not take x-rays.On top of that, the treatments you are receiving do not seem to produce any noticeable changes, to say the least... With evidence based practice, x-rays are no longer the norm or required if you will. On the other hand , any professionnal practicing chiropractic would probably take some x-rays because it gives so much info about general alignment , malformations etc.(all stuff that seems medically irrelevant but can really influence a chiropractor's choice in terms of what and how to adjust). That said, NUCCA technique is in no way superior to any other techniques. Also you have to know " that the twist and pop" (jointmanipulation/adjustement) that some poeple refer to in this forum, is a very safe form of treatment when applied by a well trained professionnal, that is, a well trained chiropractor. So basically, if your chiropractor does not respond to your health concerns,I would change professionnal regardless if the new one does NUCCA or not. I would go by the referral of people around you and would choose someone with some experience because mtbi symptoms do overlap neck symptoms and are therefore harder to treat. The most important thing is to develop thrust in your new chiropractor, meaning that you have to feel that he/she genuinly wants to help you recover and that he understand your health concerns. pepa |
