That is wonderful that they not only survived but personally grew from the experience. I am very happy for TBI survivors!

Being on the mild end of the spectrum seems to be a double-edged sword. Yes, we survived! We should be happy. We should be thankful for all that we have. Sympathy and understanding are often absent in professionals and friends - I only know a few people who truly understand the effects the TBI and surgery have had upon my life. It would be great if these people played a larger part of my life! But, that's not in the cards. Those who are a daily part of my life understand less of me than I do! Which is actually kind of bad, LOL!

Thank you for posting, take care!

Hi there Shez.

My name is Melody. I usually post on the neuropathy forums and social chat. Do you have a supportive family? husband? kids? That can really be of great comfort but of course, they have to be understanding of what you are going through. Sometimes this isn't the case.

I can tell you what I did to get myself out of the doldrums (we all have reason to be depressed, be in the doldrums, melancholia, WHATEVER!!!). But I found a great way to have fun and even help my body.

I started to grow my own sprouts. I bought some organic seeds. I took some empty jars (Just found out that glass is better than my plastic containers, so I'll be off to my local hardware store to buy some mason jars)

but what I have been growing in my kitchen, is alfalfa, broccoli sprouts, lentil sprouts ALL KINDS OF SPROUTS.

It's so easy (if you want to find out more, just do a search on any of my latest sprouting posts), or go on the internet and google "how to sprout". I went on youtube and watch all the videos and said "holy cow, I can save money, grow my own sprouts, add them to my salads, to my soups, etc.".

I found out not only is it easy and fun, but IT'S CHEAP!!

Just imagine having 5 kinds of sprouts growing on your kitchen counter, then at night, being able to use them in a whole bunch of ways.

I realize this is not for every body, but I got my neighbors and some friends to give it a try, and my husband's nurse is doing this with her grandchildren. I fed her some of my sprouted vegetable patties and she was in heaven. She said "can I take some home to my husband".

Sprouts are easy on the tummie, and full of vitamins, minerals, etc. It's ALL good!!!

So if you want to pick yourself out of the doldrums, try finding a hobby like I did. You can't go wrong, you'll find new ways to use these sprouts. My husband thinks I've gone mad, but you should see his face when he digs into my patties. Oh boy!!! And if you are not into sprouts, growing seeds etc. (I never did this before in my entire life and I'm 61), hopefully you can find another thing of interest for you.

lol

So I wish you well hon!!

Melody

Default Hi sprout lady :)

Hi Melody

Sprout lady is a cute nickname, lol! My personal life is really in shambles. Much too intense and dramatic to go into at all.

Thanks for posting the idea of finding something to get into. I've been sort of searching for a little while now, trying to find a way to get the feeling of accomplishment. Small indoor gardening is a possibility, I s'pose. Thanks for the idea

sprouts are super charged nutritionally and fresh and yummy. my next step was a self contained garden called the aero-garden. now i have fresh herbs, lettuces, even tomatoes. all year! it's victory garden time.
i also it gave me something powerful to look forward to, the growth, the crispness, the rightious economic savings and convenience. then even outdoor potted plants are exercise and sunshine.

it's very difficult sometimes to see through the fog. very much like mood swings according to atmospheric low pressure. amplified.

good luck to everyone in their struggle with struggle.

Default hang in there

I know how you feel. My son is a survivor of TBI. I wish he would be the one writing here but he seems totally unaware of his condition despite similar symptoms as yours and many others. I always feel guilty too knowing so many have far worse situations. Yet that shouldn't be a judgment minimizing our own experiences. Having to deal with it all the time is stressful; and the unknown future makes it worse. I don't know what to say to anyone else to make them feel better. I wish I did. Does it just help to know someone is listening?

While I KNOW that there are *many* survivors out there, I cannot seem to pull myself up out of this funk!

Physical, financial, emotional, marital, parenting problems- you name it. My life just really stinks Then, I feel like a jerk for complaining. Countless people have it much worse than I! Who am I to complain when others are freaking fighting to live?? I feel so guilty, I don't even go onto the support link anymore. Instead, I just keep living. Forcing myself to stay in the moment, rather than look back on the past - and all that is gone. It is so hard!

I just thought I'd introduce myself here. Maybe some of you have felt the same & have pointers to share. I just don't feel like I fit in anywhere I go.

Hi Lynn,

It helps me in the moment of receiving support. Everytime I lay it out there I feel very vulnerable. As a result, I tend to completely avoid seeking support when I feel very low. I may even come in, and read supportive posts of understanding, but I avoid writing another difficult time (and risk losing support). That's my rationale anyway.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope that things go well for your son and that his condition improves as time passes. Don't feel guilty ~ I often feel guilty for the changes I've undergone (as it has impacted pretty much every area of my life). So much suffering. I can only imagine what you feel, Lynn. Hugs to you

Default Hang in there

I'm sorry to hear about you're injury! I am 4 months into mine and it's really getting to me as well to be honest. I feel like i've had a hint of depression in my symptoms as well. Just feeling useless really, but i tell myself that it is natural to feel this way, but the thoughts of being useless and so on is quite unrealistic. Therefore NATURAL and UNREALISTIC are the two main words that helps me. If you feel some feelings of depression coming along, take about 5 deep breathes and think of something positive such as you're family or a hobby or whatever. That's what i do and to be honest it works 90% of the time! It's only a suggestion but give it ago. you might be surprised
