Thanks Mrs. D..no worries about my Vit D, I already take 5000IU's daily in winter. My Vit D was down to 26, now around 55, so I will probably always take it.

Maybe I should take this other Nature Bounty back, I haven't opened it, just bought it last week.

Yes, you could take it back. There is a growing concern among cardiologists that with higher (what we now call the new blood level normal) blood levels, taking calcium is less important.

One cardiologist recommends no more than 600mg supplemental calcium which high dose Vit D3 use.

I just had my done and it was 43, at 5000IU daily. My doctor wants me at 70 ultimately, so I am increasing to 10,000 IU every other day alternating with 5000.

If you eat cheese and eat green leafy veggies, you may not need high dose calcium. See how it goes.

Lightbulb bumping up

A poster shared this new product information with us at the Peripheral Neuropathy forum recently.

http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/catalog/sh...new_crumb=true

I've been using it for about a month now, with nice results.

One can scale back on oral magnesium if they choose to do this instead, I believe. The lotion is in the stores too, and on that website they offer "sales" with lower prices now and then.

I don't know of drinks high in magnesium. 8oz of whole milk has 33mg.

Magnesium is in whole foods mostly and veggies that are green due to the chlorophyll content. It is also quite high in nuts.

The only reason to cut down on calcium is if you take high dose Vit D. Most of the calcium you take (with lower D levels) is not absorbed. Only about 20-25% per dose normally. People taking high dose Vit D3 supplements should cut back on calcium supplements to avoid over-absorption. One cardiologist I quoted on this thread suggests 600mg a day when using high dose Vit D.

One would think V8 would have some mag, but it appears to not.

the only "drink" I know of that would actively increase magnesium intake is the drink one makes with the ionic mag powders, eg Natural Calm. One can have them warm or cold, just water plus the needed amount of the "fizzy" mag citrate.
The only thing there is to have only the recommended amount as too much can have a laxative effect!

Yes, Chemar... I took her "drinks" to mean non-supplement form, like juices and similar.

The Calms and also Ionic Fizz (which is magnesium carbonate ionic) are really supplements.

I just remembered some Whey bodybuilding powders are high in magnesium, but they are mostly oxide and even then if not, many people get diarrhea from those. I used to get complaints about that all the time. Those guys never thought it was the body building special powder drink they mixed up!

I would start slowly. The recommended way is 1/2 the RDA daily, to start. That is 200mg elemental daily.

You do not know what your kidney functions are, and until you know, Do NOT take more than a conservative amount to start.
