When you use 1000mcg daily orally/sublingually, 10mcg or less are absorbed. There are not toxicity studies available on high dose B12 yet. Some Japanese studies on MS used 40 milligrams a day oral. Injecting mega amounts daily (abuse for some weight loss treatments) may be another factor. Cyano form does not agree with everyone. Some cannot handle the cyanide portion. That is why many recommend methyl orally, and also because this form works better and faster (needs no conversion in the body) Cyano is a synthetic chemical, our bodies cannot use without conversion. Take all oral/sublingual forms on an empty stomach for best results.

The methylcobalamin form has even been used in huge quantities with people who could not eliminate it with urine due to kidney disease. No problem.
Even if a person does not have the severe malabsorption that would allow only 10 mcg absorption from 1000 mcg taken, I would have absolutely no qualms about taking thousands of mcg methylcobalamin. rose

![]() Rose, I have been bragging about you and shared your link with the people on the ASAP board. I have learned so much from you and there have been a few people with low B12 so I share what you have taught me and steer them to your site. Thanks again...Sue

I have no clue but wanted to share something about it and for sure that Rose and others saying docters are confused and know little about it is true. I have seen like many here a lot of docs and have asked this ? to all. I have gotten a variety of responses and a variety of what they feel I should supplement or not. Very confusing in general.I'm wondering if a holsitic docter would be more informed and lead each individual to what their body needs rather then the typical doc who is more about meds?

One would hope so, but even though the chances are better you cannot count on it. Some time after the jerk plagiarized me, I paid $250 for a consult with a holistic MD who had even published a book. I liked him, but it took me four attempts to get copies of my labs, he wasted money out of my pocket ordering labs that were not at all indicated or useful, and even after my tactfully teaching him a bit about B12 and the modern meaning of pernicious anemia, he got that wrong. Worse than useless frustrating.
However, he didn't offer me pharmaceuticals, which was refreshing. I got my aunt away from her doc who had lied (in writing!) about lab results, ignored things she could have done plenty about and then wrote her a prescription for the problem she could have prevented (and later with natural methods took care of with my help----confirmed by later lab results). Got my aunt to switch to an MD recommended by our hospital's department specifically for people who want integrative medical care. Turns out they simply directed people to the newest doctor taking patients. He missed obvious diagnoses, never met a pharmaceutical he didn't love, literally lied to us about lab results, etc. He was worse the the other one. Discouraged and disgusted? Me? ![]() rose
