I apparently have a very serious, systemic infection. My HS-CRP score was 32.20. My PSA went from around 5-6 to 18. SOMETHING is going on. I retest August 30th.
When these labs were ordered, I had just made two trips to the ER in an ambulance...in 2 days. My ribs hurt so bad I couldn't breathe normally. I could not even lay down in bed due to the excruciating pain. The ER doctors found I had another lung infection and a UTI, so they treated me with antibiotics for 14 days. They cultured the problem and gave me antibiotics aimed at the specific problem. I was told they cured both problems. Shortly thereafter my Pulmonologist and Urologist order over 30 lab tests. The most serious problems are listed above. My Urologist put me on Septra DS for a month. Two a day. That is 57,600mg of antibiotics in 30 days. What can I do while taking all these antibiotics to protect my system? Maybe I did not say that correctly. What can I do to help my body protect itself? I am taking the supplements you suggested. Probiotics probably won't help right now. Any suggestions welcomed. Thank you, Dave

Is there another antibiotic that you're taking as well? The 'normal' dose for Septra is as you describe... one tablet twice daily. Hopefully things will improve for you soon and I'm sure that mrsD will be able to give you more information when she returns but if there's anything that's particularly worrying you, then I'd be happy to try and find some information for you.

pabb, you are right. I drink a German Beer Stein full of water with EACH Septra DS. The dr. told me to do that.
Koala77, MY prescription is 800mg of sulfameth and 160mg of Trimethoprim. Each caplet has 960mg of antibiotic in it. Twice a day. I am going by what Walgreen's Pharmacy typed on the bottle. I will call them today to confirm their numbers. I hope YOU are right and they made an error in their typing. I am NOT happy to be taking all those antibiotics. It is playing havoc with my system. I started them on July 30th. So I have taken them for 15 days now. It sure makes life interesting at times.

This may be different but when I have been on antibiotics they always have me eat 2 cups of yogurt a day. This may be to prevent yeast infections though. Can you call your doctor who rx this and ask the nurse even?

Maybe I am wrong, but taking probiotics would be a waste of time and effort wouldn't it?
I take one tablet around 7am and another around 7pm, so it would be hard to space a probiotic out very much, plus....... wouldn't the antibiotic just kill the probiotic off? I drank drano when I was 3 years old. Had false teeth around 4 or 5 years old. I have a very limited diet. I don't eat anything spicy, nor can I stand it when the food/drink is hot. I mean temperature wise. Even Robotussin DM comes right back up. Yogurt and milk by products cause ... can't think of the word ... congestion? I expel sputum 24/7 from second hand smoke damage (my parents smoking) and try to avoid anything that increases congestion or more mucus, etc. I loved milk and ice cream. Haven't had any in over 5 years. Yogurt is not as bad, but I have just retreated from all of it. Probiotics is what I am left with I guess. EDIT: My Cardiologist called today, saying he was going to run some more tests, then we would probably do an Angiogram. No one has been in my heart to look around in 2 years. He says it is possible for arteries to deteriorate that fast. Unusual, but possible. My fun meter is about pegged.
