Default Want to loss 40 lbs !

Hey everybody !

I would like to lose 40 lbs.... I would love to hear ideas... I mean, hints you know...

I have considered some:

-Eating only 1000 calories per day (I feel hungry but... )
-Drink at least 6 glasses of water...

About excercise, Im the WORST, have never liked it, but I know it is necessary... Will 15 minutes walk do something ? or I need definetely more time... ?

Also, does that natural pills work ?? Like those made of apple, or green tea... Any side effects ??

I have hypothiroidism.... so... even worse.... !

Thanks !

Hi BlueMajo,

hmm, I too want to lose weight, 10kg(22lbs), I love your post because its basically me to!! Im on prednisolone, it makes me want to eat all the time.

I find excercise a double edged sword, I've got Myasthenia gravis, too much excercise makes it worse!!!!

So I hope you don't mind if I watch your thread to get some ideas, as trying to lose weight is just so frustrating and hard at the moment.

I'm a big loser with almost 16 years stable. 85lbs. ago I went back to my mom's advice from 1972. 4 food groups. The thing that works best for me is that I changed my attitude about food, I don't center my social activities around food, and I have basic rules I follow and obey.

I was a heavy child from the start so it has been a lifetime of battles for me. Here are some of my simple rules:

If you can get it from your car, it's NOT food, it's fat.

Eat things the way God made them, He never fried anything or put gravies & sauces on things.

Know the amount you will eat, then stop. Just stop.

Food is like gas, only get it when you need it. Always use premium.

Diets are for chumps, pills don't work, quick fixes are jokes. It's a way of life, not a bandaid.

Tricking yourself into thinking that it's a temporary situation will land you right back where you started, if not heavier.

One size does NOT fit all, we each need to define our weaknesses and bad habits.

Dropping weight and keeping it off is a decision we make every single day.

I believe that once we wrap our minds around our own very personal situations, we can confront and conquer the situation. Controlling our own choices is the very foundation.

Hope this helps! You can do it, make the decision and stick to it like a marriage or a child or a career. It's truly that simple.

Hey BlueMajo! I agree w/what Cindy said~ it makes sense. I maintain my weight by living by alot of the same rules she stated. If I know I'm going out to eat or having something more calorie ridden, then I eat a small lunch etc. It IS a lifestyle, not a diet that you need to learn. Is it easy?? Not all the time, but for instance, we had Pizza Hut last wkend, so for lunch that day, I had fruit, cheese and crackers. It works for me.

It takes determination and willpower, but you can do it. One thing I used to do is keep a food diary. You'd be surprised at what actually goes in your mouth in one day. I tend to be a grazer, so I was shocked. I don't keep one now, but when I did, YIKES!! I am not a big fan of fried foods, so that part is easier for me, but I love, love, love sweets, so ~~ well, you get the picture.

Someone once told me that 10 lbs is alot easier to take off than 50, so if I gain a couple, I buckle down and take them back off. Good luck Blue and keep us posted.

You just have to have the mindset to do it and I think you can, NO, I KNOW you can!!!

Take a look at the threads here...lots of good information.
I lost 25 pounds years ago and have kept it off.
Sure, there are times that I have health issues or have great stress and a few pounds come back on. But I am careful to get them off as soon as I can. I am very much aware. I see much sense in what the previous posters have said. In addition...

Very generally...this is what I've done:

1. Cut sugar down significantly in my diet.
2. Reduced bread and pasta (flour).
3. I eat more vegetables than I did previously.
4. I drink more water...although honestly, some days I don't do very well with this. I just make a better effort. I do push a lot with this in the summer.
5. I exercise regularly. Actually, I do NOT go overboard with this. Why? Because I have found that sometimes when I do...I actually eat more.
HOWEVER, regular exercise of some kind IS very important...IMHO.
6. I take my vitamins regularly. I totally believe they are imortant.
7. I try to keep a positive attitude and get support.
8. I weigh myself at least once a week.
9. Eat lean protein, reduce fat when and where possible and eat high fiber foods when and where possible. Avoid junk foods.
10. Have learned to cook low fat recipes...am always looking for new ones.
11. Keep a food diary most days.
12. Am patient and understanding with myself. Each little weight loss is a good weight loss.

Wishing you good luck with this worthwhile effort.

i agree with all the above.
about a yr ago i lost 40 lbs. another heavy child all my life story.
however, i gained 20 back. but i've kept the other 20 off.

i'd recommend 8-10 glasses of water/day. don't drink your calories; as in alcohol or juices. it's a waste of good food.

watch your portion sizes. eat a variety of protein, veggies, fruits and some carbs. very few sweets. the fresher the better. eating healthy snacks during the day like fruit helps you keep the hungries away. don't eat after 7-8pm.

it is important to exercise. walking is an easy and effective tool to get moving. if you have a treadmill use it. i have one. i can only walk about 8 min's/day. but i do it everyday. then i put a cute sticker on my calendar, like a reward. i don't feel right til i see that sticker. ps, if you actually like doing something like biking or swimming, do that.

the important thing about exercise is to pick something doable. start where you're comfortable. stay there for a bit. then increase by a min or 2. if it's too much cut back. the point is to do it. not to kill yourself. you'll feel more successfull.

don't try pills or fads. they don't work.
get a partner if it will help you.

and, don't let the scale dictate how you feel about yourself. it's just a tool to keep you on track. be gentle. and stick with us. slow but sure wins the race.
