I remember the food in Bermuda is pretty expensive. My cruise line gave us coupons for a lunch and a dinner on land. But you can always eat on the ship... that's included... free.
We went on a freestyle trip too. And dressed business casual for dinners- no hats allowed. We wore whatever we wanted for breakfast and lunch. It was hot and rained heavily one day but only briefly. We took cabs a few times- scary drivers! The beach was within walking distance of where our ship was docked. I think you'll have a great time! Bermuda is so beautiful! And there are a lot of things to do! |
Dear Kay,
Why no hats? I'm trying to figure out what the hat rule is. http://bestsmileys.com/hat/2.gif http://bestsmileys.com/hat/3.gif Regarding the dress code in Bermuda: http://www.bermuda-attractions.com/bermuda_000164.htm Are they dressed more formally that than Americans and the people of the Caribbean? Full moon Wed evening
We had rain over the weekend. It helped the drought.
More rain probably. M |
we are getting some rain too. little today but some every day this week if it all pans out.
WE NEED RAIN!!!!! bizi |
we got rain today! supposed to rain all day tomorrow.:)
|
We have been getting lots of thunderstorms late at night, and early in the morning in the last couple of months. Rain was coming down in curtains about 4 AM this morning. I heard the thunder headed my way.
My brother in Law says their 80 pound dog jumps on him,and shakes with these late night,or early in the morning thunderstorms coming though when he's trying to sleep. This is a very active year with thunder activity. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
It has been a crazy year for weather.....
record breaking rain, snow, temps, highs, droughts, flooding, tornadoes, wild fires.....wonder what the hurricane activity will be this year???? bizi |

A cat has been hanging out by mydoorstep. Hubby and I never feed him. He stops by anyway.
I hear birds in the morning. That is how I know it is time for bed. Rainy lately in the afternoons. We need still more rain. |
ha! you have been adopted!
One day soon that cat is likely bring a mouse (dead or very close to it) to your doorstep. Or a bird or lizard or cicada in same conditions.
It will be an offering, and an indication of domicilial belonging. With the implicit message, "Feed me, Seymour." So, best at least one of you or hubby change your name to Seymour, and buy some cat food. ;) :D hehe ~ waves ~ p.s. cats are not offended if you do not eat their offering, thank goodness :p. but will be confused if you get angry about it. i know it's hard if they show up with a half-mangled ruby-throated hummingbird, but, they just won't understand "pretty-bird-no-kill" no matter how you scold. they might even think it's not good enough and try to get you something bigger, better, prettier (...or more disgusting). |
I remember a younger woman once all upset about the behavior of her cat; bringing home mice. I laughed so hard. She had no idea that it was an endearing behavior.
Mine bring home mice to eat, chipmunks to play with the other cats, and always with his squirrel friends. ' dd went out to open the deck door seeing what the ruckus was, there was a squirrel and chipmunk looking for the cats to come out. The eve of the fourth and we are having a lot of thunder around us today. The heat wave is on, but there is a drop in humidity right now. We never got the pool up for the kids with traveling. I live so far from things like pools, and efforts for community pool are not going very fast. Need land and grants. None of which are in the budgets.. That is funny though, I live in the Pocono area where we have three local lakes I swam as a kid, now I find them too cold being spring feed, and icky to enjoy unless boating no sewers, lots of septics. I can't imagine being in what we called the "kiddie pool" today. |
How is your weather.
Hi,
Normal hot here at 90 degree F later. Humidity. Summer rain. Full moon Friday morning. I love the moon. I can see it easily enough from where I live now. M. |
it has been i the lower 90's here cooler thankfully and less humidity it seems. I work indoors and have good air conditioning in my car.
bizi |
Wow it is really hot when it is near 90* in the pocono area. We never did get the 4' pool up for the kids, it would take only a day, but summer is more then half over for us. The end of the month the nights will be really cool again.
When it rains, it is way over an inch at a time. Saturday I have a run off claim in the Pocono's were a Tornado actually touched down the week we were away, 3" of rain less then an hour. I had to look up the weather reports for the client. We just had to days 90* this week when I was in court, the car was an oven when I got in it. BUT I would love this weather over the long cold winters. If winter was as short as Summer is I would not mind. But when July 4th passes we know only one more holiday weekend to summer and then back to school. The house is up for the son, Grandson loves driving his little jeep around. We sit on the steps or deck, water the flowers, enjoy a scoop of ice cream. He is precious and I am blessed. We are making a sand box this weekend. The temp is to be about 84*. But I never complain....put on a fan, a cool shower, close the curtains...I can always cool off. di |
sounds like a loving family
((((HUGS)))) bizi |
Not exactly sure how hot its been here.
I think close to 90's or hotter. But with the index its over 100 I think. Ugh. Donna:grouphug: |
Did you see that moon last night?
Here in the middle of pretty much nowhere (Gila wilderness, NM) the weather is quite pleasant. Without concrete or asphalt, heat doesn't linger. On the continental divide, there's always a breeze. There are sacred lands in all directions. Truth be, if I got sentenced here for the rest of my life, unable to ever leave, I couldn't get much bent out of shape.:grouphug:
|
JudeLauren,
I'd love to see the moon from the middle of nowhere. Where I live we have light pollution. M. |
If this were a different century, I'd maybe just say
Beam yourself over, Mari! |
Wow, I will have to come see that area one day.
I loved it when we went to see the Wyoming and things area this year. Donna:grouphug: |
Thunderstorms
We've had 101 degree temps, and severe thunderstorms. The power came back on just after 10 PM tonight after this immense thunderstorm that thundered, boomed, crackled, and rained like crazy. I mean this was a thunderstorm that had me concerned because so much of it was right above where I was. I heard a bang, boom, booom!!! boom, rumble, and I went into the middle of the kitchen where there where no windows. I'm fortunate that none of my HF,VHF,UHF outside antennas got hit. They are grounded though.
I was leaving a family members house before this thunderstorm hit,and my eye glasses immediately fogged up outside the door, and I took them off. This storm was loaded with lightning. BF:hug::hug::hug: |
So glad you weren't touched personally by all that lightning, BF. I seem to forget from summer to summer just how far horizontally that stuff can travel. Knock people right off their feet from a few miles away.
What a year this has been already for weather. I'm in Florida every other weekend & fully expect a hurricane any time now. 101? It was 97 "feels like" with 95 humidity here, but I bet even that little bit made a difference. Our power was off in this part of town more than it was on. I've got solar backup for fans. Take care. Let's hope the power grids make it thru. |
DEAR FRIEND,
Wow. That's a little more excitement than you needed! I'm happy to hear your report that you are safe. M. |
How hot is it?
Hi,
Someone sent this picture to my sister in Texas. She wanted to share this with me. She loves big dogs. M http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/o...redownload.jpg Picture Caption: Quote:

Mari Thank you for sharing this picture with us. That's priceless. What a cute picture. BF:hug::hug::hug:
|
I have just been through about 2 hours of booming thunderstorms. The power didn't go out.:Dancing-Chilli:
I had a thunderstorm wake me up at 5 AM this morning. There is no drought where I am this year. I feal sorry for the people in Texas. BF:grouphug::hug::grouphug: |
Dear Friend,
Good news that you still have power. Rain can cause anxiety -- at least for me -- because it reminds us of our vulnerability. M. |
Dear Steve,
i am glad you got through the storm safely, and with all your equipment undamaged. :) Dear Mari, that pic was awesome!!! i had to laugh. then i felt sorry for Elliott! i'm not in texas but we don't have AC where i live... i would do that if i could sometimes. i used to stick my head in the freezer from time to time but our fridge is acting up now so access is now strictly for food, and done guerrilla fashion... think... plot... scheme... and finally, open-grabfood-shut! ~ waves ~ |
We had a microburst,or high intensity storm near by on Monday afternoon. I heard the thunder for a couple of hours. My sister called me,and said how bad the storm was over where she was. She said it was raining so hard that it looked white outside. It knocked down my brother in laws corn garden. BF:hug::hug::hug:
|
Wow from all the heat now the summer storms. I am glad that you and the equipment made it out intact Steve. I have a ton of damage claims for the insurance company I am doing claims for. I usually do special investigations, but with the snow, rain, wind and storm damage I have been doing it all now.
About 2 weeks ago there were 3 tornado's here in the Pocono area, and huge downburst that took off roofs and downed large trees. I had several roof claims and hail damage. We had so much rain the last three days I have had to empty the pool several times. It is coming in inches at a time, rare around here to have 1/2 inch a time. I like a good summer thunderstorm to a point. The dangerous one that have horrific lightening, and really loud booms, scare the bejeebies out of me. THe cats and I hide under a blanket from the flashes. still raining out as I type, no storm activity here. |
Can't believe it reached 102 today! (don't know what the heat index was)
I feel so sorry for those living in texas....dallas had 40 days of 100 degree weather and now houston has had 100 temps for the past 16 days...i think. This has been a crazy hot summer for alot of folks. I wonder if that means we should expect fires in the near future????? We are having some much needed rain tonight.... Our neighbors tree lost a branch and took out part of our shed roof. Jeff said he would go talk with her tomorrow. This rotten tree is a plague now that hurricane season is upon us. bizi |
it's terribly hot here too. temps over 100 and humid. :( wunderground grossly underreports, i dunno. or have vantage points with iced wind or something. WE have thermometers inside and out tho.... :(
no rain, no sea, no pool, no puddles, not even a leaky yard sprinkler... garden hose... garden??? hah! what's that. AC? nope. fortunately we do have fans. i don't know what to do with myself any more esp its hard to really cool off with the neck-shoulder-back-arm inflammation i've got going... constant (warm) temp seems to work best for pain. meantime rest of body is SCREAMING to take a dive in that iced driveway with Elliot!!! i couldn't even get a dip in the sea when i was on vacation. i didn't even get to touch it. which is like, one of my rituals. whenever i go to someplace near ocean... i have to touch the sea ... it's an identity thing i think... ~ waves ~ |
Our few week long of heat wave was long over. the last few weeks it was even too cool for the pool. Getting ready to drain it. This week we had low humidity and took advantage of it to take dgs to the amusement park. Lots of walking, slow walking, but still a strain on the back. A birthday party for our furture sil dad, and tomorrow I have to get back to school started. Setting up a room for dd and I to have for her cyber schooling and my work.
I HAVE to get the new dryer hooked up tomorrow too. The storm damage claims calmed down a bit, but now I had several RV fires an damage. Also a few slip and falls. Hope everyone can be a cool as can be, and safe from any storms. Di Bizi make sure the neighbor is on notice about that tree...their insurance may be particular of the act of nature and BETTER know how bad that tree is and remove it before any more damage. Get an estimate for the damage and in writing give it to them or send reg. Not sure how you get along with them. Hope nothing in he shed gets damaged. |
jeff went over to speak to her and she was so uninvolved/nonchalant ...she said let the insurance companies fight it out. She wasn't going to remove the tree. or pay for the damages to our shed...which is really not that damaged....but if we file it we would have to pay the deductible which is way more than the damages and cost to fix it. Jeff is going to call our insurance company to see if they can generate a letter telling her that it is her responsibility to fix the damages....
anyway.... supposed to be in the 100's today... poor waves no air conditioning....why don't you guys have a window unit????what is the normal temperatures for the summer there? bizi |
Dear Di
you sound so busy... i hope you can find time to rest, though i'm glad the heat is over foryou.:hug::hug: Dear Bizi complicated condo rules and the way our exterior is makes it impossible to install a window unit. years ago, we bought a portable that runs exhaust out of a window, but found that the unit plus piping to the window get so hot they "outpower" the coolness generated - it's an anti-airconditioner! Plus, the outer shade cannot be drawn on that window when the exhaust pipe is in place, and with the sun beating right onto it, even more heat radiates into the house. :( i hope your insurance company is helpful. i think they will be sensitive to the neighbor's attitude and potential lack of coverage for certain conditions eg act of nature, and want to prevent having to shell out for a claim on your part, should that thing come down. maybe take some pix of the tree (with auto-dating) and shed also, just to document an a priori state of things... so you have something to show in case there are later damages of ambiguous cause... isn't there some sort of authority that says if A's tree is hanging on B's property you have a right to get it chopped back? there may be contingency too on it being endangering... screw the shed...what if you or jeff were walking by, and it fell right then, and tumbled off and damaged one of YOU?!!! :(:( ask your insurance about these things, and ask what you can do to protect yourselves in the immediacy, as well as possible CYA actions against having to claim against someone else's negligence, and eat the deductible yourself. (((hugs))) ~ waves ~ |
Swamp cooler!
You need a swamp cooler, ~ waves ~ , seriously.
Portable units vent themselves. When I lived out west I just hitched it to my belt & I was good--make that grrr-ATE!--to go:D;). p.s. How goes post-travel recovery? . C.G. *. *. *. a work still being worked on |
Haha... swamp-cooler???? i am not sure what that is CG... (much less if they have them here). effect sure sounds good though!!!
We are not "supposed" to have such high temps but we do, every year, for several weeks esp as you get near the city... cement and soot absorbs heat and reradiates it... we've dropped a few degrees now so this week might "only" be high 90's if we are lucky. but won't cool off more till mid sept or later. ------------------ i am SO NOT ready for work. not physically, not mentally. pain still there, not ready for work much less the noise or the chaos of the office. boss won't be there but piled my plate high and made sure to let me know there was "pressure" from above on these tasks... end of august cutoff and he will be back 29th... just in time to crack the whip. i should be grateful i have a job, but i accepted this one without hardly thinking, or asking to do other interviews when i didn't like the sound of it to start with... i diddn't know what i was doing.... now i basically want to roll over and die. TMI sorry. and off-topic... :( ~ waves ~ scatter-brained and scatter-threaded. |
Dear Waves,
'Sorry about the pain.   The temps make work and everything else a little harder. M. |
Hurricane Irene is heading toward parts of the Bahamas as a catagory 3.
We are going to get effects from the storm because is is spread out over a wide distance. I have not checked much more than that. M |
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!
Quote:
Irene tracking map - Weather Underground looks like the eye will pass just to the right or directly over eastern New Providence - where the capital is... v. densely populated and lots of wooden structures... i don't want to think about the damages especially in the poor areas. it is not often for there to be a direct hit like that. most often they veer above or below NP. if below, the storm gets disorganized by the mountainous areas in cuba and jamaica.
