FUll Moon at 2:00 am Monday

HI,

My girlfriend and I went for a walk on the board walk at the beach and stopped at an open air greek restaurant for salads under the full moon.
The temperature was warm -- no need for sweaters or jackets.
The night was beautiful.

We went for a lovely walk around 9pm after dinner and looked up at that same full moon and I wonder how many of us would be looking up at the full moon connecting us in a magical way.:)

I was driving South on a route in my state on Thursday at sunset. There where beautiful oranges, pinks, and reds in the South Western sunset area. I was so thrilled to see that color show. I was thinking that this is brought to us Free of charge. BF:hug::hug::hug:

the moon was full at 8:30 AM here, monday morning.

so i looked at it sunday evening almost there, and then monday evening about 7 when it was already dark. i was 12 hours off. unavoidable. couldn't see it at 8:30 AM. might have been on the other side of the house, but i was busy falling back asleep after my Zoloft.

I am glad you all enjoyed the moon. i wondered about posting something about it, or if Mari might. (heh! guessed that right!) :) I too thought of you all as i looked at it, even though the times were not synced up real well. it is the same magical moon. :)

Steve, thank you for sharing your sunset drive experience with us. it sounds breathtaking. and yes, these gifts are free.

We have lucked out with winter during December. Since the foot of snow we had before Halloween, there has not been much. That may change tonight. We had terrible rain and wind last night, but now the midwest snow is coming. By Monday I think it is the temps go single digit.
How I wish for a 12 hr 80* day!

Brokenfriend 01-13-2012 01:48 AM

How about the 15 feet of snow in Alaska. I can't immagine how bad that would be. We would have houses, and buildings caving in,side roads blocked, electric poles down all over the place. No communication.

Those poor people up there. I thought that the 2 Feet of snow that we had 2 years ago was bad,but I cannot imagine 15 feet. The national guard that are helping them probably have sore backs, and legs. They are probably exhausted. I wonder how long it's going to take for the people to recover from this. It may shorten life spans for some of the people who where hardest hit.

There might be some people in the remote areas of Alaska who are completely barried with snow. Their houses, cars, and roads may be unpassable. Totally marooned, crying, and freezing. BF:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Mari 01-13-2012 02:31 AM

Dear Friend,

I did not see the Alaska story. i can hope for the people in those areas that they are more likely to be prepared for this sort of thing than people in other parts of the country. I hope that FEMA, the national guard, and good services get to them quickly.

it's still pretty tame here, but they are expecting things to become more "real winter-like" next week... just in time for my pdoc appointment and stress test... oh joy.

time to really break out those fluffy woolen scarves, sweaters etc i guess... i've been wearing mostly the same thing... :o everything is such a jumble i still don't feel like doing a wardrobe change..... there's no real way to divvy it up.

sorry if i am being mundane. that is about all i can handle right now.

Hoping everyone is warm.

And to top it off, my husband is going to kill me tonight.
I have a flat tire too. Ugh, he is going to be mad at me tonight.

Oh well, I can't change it. But he will have too.

Thanks Bizi.

you are right i am putting a lot of pressure on myself left and right, not just here... also at home, in general... sigh. thank you for the reminder. you are a good friend. :heartthrob: i seem improved as far as the virus thingie but i have to keep up the echinacea a bit longer. also migraines started so juggling all the pills with food is a challenge. :( and, when i feel run over by a mack truck, i don't know if its the virus, the migraines, or the NSAIDs...:Sigh:. but the painkillers are at least working so, although i am under the weather (no pun intended) on two counts, i am much better than i could be.

Dear Donna

i hope your husband doesn't get too mad at you. i mean what, did you take a hammer and a nail and go at the tire yourself, personally??? :D:p NO! you hit a nail, or it got low on air, or whatever... happens... it's not your fault! ;)

i've changed tires, and it's no big deal so he better not make it into one... just change the dang thing and be done. (well, let's hope!):hug::hug:

Dear Donna,

how frustrating for you all that needless worry. i am glad your hubby is safe though.

Brokenfriend 01-21-2012 03:16 AM

It's sleeting outside, and I can see it on my car. People are having accidents probably because they can't see it. I hear these reports on my police scanners. My scanners are usually quiet this late at night. If I have to much activity on my scanners,I usually turn them down when I'm on the internet. The reason that I have two on is so I can hear the police, and Emergency broadcasts at the same time. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Hi Bizi With me it does the reverse. I feel safe when I know that there are no criminal activities going on around me. If there is a crime,I'm watchful, and report anything that I might see that they are looking for.

I've been into radio since the 60's. I've always thought that it was cool. If it bothers me,i'll simply turn it off. When I lived in the capital city of my State,I was listening to a police chase, that turned out to be tragic. I didn't want to hear any scanner activity for about 6 months,or more. I listen to it while in the computer room late at night when not to much is going on. In my computer room I usually leave the State Police frequencies off, because I'd be distracted all the time. I listen to County, and SIRS. It's pretty quiet.

While I'm in the den,or TV room,I can't stand a scanner being on. It breaks my concentration. If a bunch of police cars,or fire trucks drive by,I may start listening to a few scanners to see what is going on. Sometimes in the tv room I'll get bored, and search for frequencies on the scanner that are active.
BF:hug::hug::hug:

I think that scanners get on most people's nerves though. My sister doesn't want scanners,or antennas at her house. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Dmom3005 01-22-2012 11:32 AM

I think he is probably right. I have a mother-in-law that used to listen
to one. It for her was company though. Weird as that sounds.

She listened more to the ambulance calls than anything.

It was to hear at one time if her friends were being picked up by a ambulance.

She would then let us all know what was going on in our little town that
way.

I somewhat miss it.

Wacky weather

Hi,

I want two or three cool days so that I can feel ok about the strange weather pattern.
It gets to 80 degrees everyday. We are short rain except an early morning shower every once in a while.

we are to have some much needed rain this week.

Wacky Weathermen

it keeps snowing and melting into slush by noon.

nightsnow dayslush nightsnow dayslush.

doesn't matter i can't seem to do anything but sleep in the daytime. :o:eek:

tomorrow they say sun. along with the polar temps even worse than we were supposed to have already - but haven't. (that's ok by me, but i'd like it just cold enough for the snow to stay put.)

as it is it is just slushy enough to discourage my mom from doing her usual rounds so she is home more... fretting fussing and banging about the place... sigh.

as long as it doesn't rain. rain in winter sucks. cold wetness is the worst combination.

~ waves ~ diffident of the weathermen worse than ever before. maybe they are conspiring with the clothes manufacturers to get people to buy heavier clothing hehe. or supermarkets, to stock up on food before we all get trapped in a giant icecube... they make it sound like the great ice age is gonna hit... and we're all gonna end up like squirrat, remember when he got frozen like a popsicle?

mmmm, popsicles. there's a thought.

Dmom3005 02-02-2012 09:29 PM

Its odd weather here in Indiana too.

So not sure what to think. We are having another 6 weeks of winter.

Hmmm, we are not sure we have seen winter much yet.

Where is the rain and snow?

Hi,

So far in the lower 48 US states, this is looking to be one of the warmest winters on record. The problem beyond the lack of cool nights is that we are missing snow and rain. Our precipitation got lost.

M

Quote:

The lower 48 states have for the most part recorded a mild winter. Locally, the month of December finished 11.2 degrees above average and the month of January is currently running about 10 degrees above normal. If February records temperatures this mild, the winter of 2011-2012 will challenge the winters of 1986-1987 and 1930-1931 as the warmest winter on record.

Yet, as we enjoy one of our warmest winters since 1881 in the Red River Valley, other parts of the world have not been so lucky. As a general rule, if one part of the Northern Hemisphere is well above average, you will almost always find another area that is recording the opposite extreme. For example, on January 17, parts of the northern Sahara Desert received an unusual snow event of several inches.

Plus, much of India has experienced a very cold winter with temperatures averaging 10 to 15 degrees below normal, with Bangalore recording their coldest January on record to date. The cold Indian winter has created much hardship for millions of people.

bizi 02-02-2012 11:42 PM

thank you for pointing this out about india...never considered that.
bizi
I was just reading about all of the bad weather in other areas of the world. They said that when one area experiences unusually low activity another area will experience high activity.

waves 02-03-2012 02:52 AM

they have been forecasting a record cold winter since the 1950's here also, but i am not seeing such low temps thus far... not really sure about surrounding areas though. weather stuff is integrated with the other news, which i stay away from. the forecast is separate and that's what i see. the forecasts have been for singledigit and even sub-zero temps (*F) - that would be extraordinarily cold for here.

so far, looking at 28* here today... just cold enough to keep the snow frozen. nothing extraordinary so far. not where i live anyway.

and it's only 9 am and the sun is coming out, so we'll see what happens. it may be another day of slush. :(

~ waves ~

Dmom3005 02-03-2012 06:17 AM

Today once again our story is Fog. Wow, it would be so interesting
if this is what we continue to get all winter.

We have another 2 hour delay this morning.

I'm up because I'm supposed to go to a case conference almost 2 hours
away. Trying to figure out how to get ahold of the mom. Ugh, she
only gave me her work phone number.

I will not put myself in danger this morning either, and I don't think
she would expect me too.

Feel bad though because its a expulsion in the end, if the beginning
doesn't find in students favor.:grouphug:

Donna

waves 02-04-2012 02:24 AM

and that cold North Wind begins to blow...

well finally we are down in the twenties - 21*F this morning. windchill is in the single digits. a strong North Wind is coming through today and next few days.

no more snow forecast (fwiw, "forecasts" having been totally haphazard lately) but what is down will ice. not good for travellers. i am a little detached because i don't have to drive in it. i just have to walk a little way when i go to pdoc's next week.

and today when i go to the pharmacy. i went to mdoc last night. it was already below freezing. re-discovered that air that cold puts me in coughing fits, it only takes a minute out in it too.:o:(

(((Donna))) i love fog and we get a lot of it here, but it's even worse than snow w/ regard to travel - it can be deadly. So, i hear you about staying home. i hope everything goes ok for the student.

rain tonight

Hi,
During the day, dark clouds had been moving in and out. Is it possible I got a headache from the change in barometric pressure?
Tonight (Friday night) I awoke at 11:00 pm from a nap and heard rain. Rain is beautiful.
