Bizi,
That is a good low carb meal. The Texas Roadhouse near us closed. I used to like the peanuts.

Red face

For lunch I had chicken/tomato tortilla soup without the tortillas
sauteed kale and creamed turnips
dinner left over steak, 4 cups wilted mixed baby greens with fat free italian
tomatoes, carrots, cheddar cheese,
2 T peanut butter (cause it called my name)
tonight I am sipping a dirty martini, (gin and olive juice) make that 2
about 1400 calories....so I am right on target.

Default Hi Bizi

I have never had Kale or turnips. Can you please tell me how to prepare these things? I would like to add this to my diet and get a new veggie or two in. My folks never prepared eithor of these, and I have never tasted. Need some help bizi. I really want to try these and prepare them correctly. You are right on, on your diet. I am right behind you trying to take off what I picked up over the holidays. ginnie

I eat them at the health food store so don't really know how they prepare them. except that the turnips are boiled and then mashed and added some cream cheese to make them taste better. so yummy!
the kale is just sauteed with some olive oil and chicken broth.
Have you ever tried spagetti squash?
it is very yummy!

Ginnie,
My mother used to steam or boil Kale. It was awful.
Hubby kind of stir fires it with garlic and onion and a little oil.

Baked Kale sounds odd in the description but tastes good:
Ingredients
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/baked-kale-chips/
Quote:
1 bunch kale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon seasoned salt

-Pull leaves off steams
-Wash
-Dry with a cloth or paper towel
-Drizzle or spray a tiny bit of cooking oil.
-Mix
-Spread on a cookie sheet
-Bake for 15 minutes.

The Kale is crispy.

Default Hi Bizi

I will try that kale. YES I do eat all the squash. There are alot of varieties I have tried through the years. I like them all! There is one that wal mart had for just two weeks, it had no name on it and they charged for what the acorn squash was. It was long green and slightly narrow, looking more like a cucumber. It was the best I ever tried, and I dont' know the name. Maybe I can google it up. I am still wanting to try the turnips too. Any thing with cheese is good! keep on being an inspiration to all of us! ginnie

Ginnie,

Maybe it is this Asian Squash --- also called Opo Squash
The Filipinos brought this to the US.

Default Hi Mari about squash

No this one was darker green, about the same kind of shape and had some striping, and flash of orange on parts. I have not seen the Asian squash either, so I am glad to know of another one. That was cool that you were able to put that picuture up for us. I am not good on the PC and I am learning with great difficulity. I just didn't take to it very well, and mess up my PC,then have to have my son over to fix my mess! I get scared to try stuff. I hope that next year in Season wal-mart will have these in again whatever they were. Very creamy texture, and wonderfully sweet, orange flesh inside like spegetti squash. The creamy texture was exceptional for this one that I found. They only got one shipment in of these and I went back for more twice during that period of time. I also hate going to wal-mart, so this was good enough for me to make the trips. I will still keep looking for what this was. Thank you for your effort and teaching me about another one. ginnie
