Default Hi waves

Yeh my son did say the same thing. He would prefer I did it without making myself sore like that. I am much better this morning. The baths helped, and I have been stretching out. I guess on top of DJD I am just getting older now. I still feel young inside my head, but the body objects to that. I will be way more careful. If my docs. knew this I don't think they wouldn't appove either! Thanks waves, have a good day. I hope something good comes your way. I am on line to NT for a little bit, then I will go out into the garage and do some mosaics. I should do some housecleaning, but that doesn't sound like fun to me. heck with my bed too! ginnie

Default cooking oatmeal

Hi,

I was cooking the steel cut oatmeal in the crockpot too long.
It sounds like maybe I am dumb to not think it matters how long to cook something. 'Probably I am.
I was figuring I could dump it in the crock pot to cook and turn it off when when I woke up.

Last night I cooked it only for 6 hours in the crockpot. It had a different consistency and taste (?) . . . It was good.

I am trying to eat more beans and such in order to lower my grocery bill and cut back on meat for a while. Eggs are fine because they are cheap.

Red face

WE buy these boneless pork chops that are about 4 oz each one 10 for 10$.
WE each had one tonight, split a pound of fresh asparagus. $4.50 for 2 dinners.

Bizi,

I love asparagus! My mother had some growing wild in the yard when I was kid. She would cut some for dinner with a pair of scissors. The last two times, I bought asparagus, I did not share with hubby --- just rinsed them and ate them raw!!

I enjoy pork sometimes, but I only eat it when hubby is not around or when I am at a restaurant. Hubby does not like the smell of it.

For $1.50 I can get a 14 OZ bag of black eyed peas that will last the two of us several meals. I add garlic and water . . . . , so each meal is about twenty five cents. Hubby eats them with rice or adds other veggies to make a nice dish for us.

On weeks when I am really trying to cut down the grocery bill, I buy cabbage. That is just about the cheapest, most nutritious, and most versatile vegetable I know.

Cabbage
Collard greens
Mustard greens
Turnip greens
Carrots

Default Hi Mari

I may try the crock pot for the oatmeal. However i kind of enjoy the "snap" of the 25 minute cooking. Love steel cut oatmeal, and eat it often. ginnie

Thumbs up asparagus cabbage and beans glorious beans!

I love asparagus too, but we hardly ever get to have it.

i don't know how to do cabbage other than chop it up and throw it in some water with other vegs. and potatoes but i do love it. here we can also get the curly kind which has a wonderful texture.

i love beans with garlic. i especially like to make bean-salads that way.

black-eyed peas take kindly to rosemary and raw fine-chopped garlic. can always add fine-chopped celery and carrots. some water, some olive oil. salt & pepper to taste.

with garbanzos i like to use garlic and thyme, plus the usual olive oil/water combo, salt & pepper. they taste better left overnight. i don't usually bother with the celery and carrots but they can work.

now with kidney beans, redbeans and broad white beans, i like them mixed and i like celery and onion in there. no garlic or carrots.

black beans... hot or cold, with fresh (raw) chopped onion and lemon and nothing else!

NB: where there is raw garlic, do not store a dish for more than a couple days as it can develop botulinum toxin.

when i make a cooked bean dish, i tend to do spicy ones. often i will use a curry base or similar. that goes really well with rice. often i will make a green veg separately, like spinach, to round out the meal.

Red face veggies n rice

sometimes when i want something lighter to go with steamed rice, i will make broccoli and oblique-sliced carrots. prep. ranges between just heated in the microwave optionally then dowsed with lemon, to sauteed with ginger and onions - very tasty!

i also like to eat the leftover carrot-zucchini-bellpepper combo that we make with rice.

usually i do those things for lunch. (on non tuna days! )

i never worry about protein because my father is practically carnivorous so dinner alone includes plenty.

WEll I have reached one goal and have maintained for a while so I don't think the weight I have lost is just water weight...my scrub pants are looser. and my bra size is going down always an indicator that I have lost weight. now if I could just lose these love handles...next goal is the last 10 pounds. this will be the hardest to lose...thank you for being patient with me.
I just figured out that the metamucil I have been using is not the sugar free kind that I thought that I picked up but full of sugar!!!!
So I have been having a lot more carbs than I thought and still losing.
bizi
Who intends to pick up the sugar free kind ASAP!

Default Hi Bizi

I am just not right with the PC. Can you tell me where on the new post page the thread starter is? I want to post this morning to everyone if I can. If I can't do it will you?
I need prayers and good vibes sent my way today. I have an appt. that very well is the one, that will determine if I have to spend my life in a wheelchair. If there is no correction for my ankles, that will be my fate no matter what I do. I am very frightened, I am only 60 and I know others have to use a wheelchair, but it doesn't help when you are facing that yourself. This is a specialist, the student of the best in the country who is evaluating me today. I feel sick to my stomach and I am shaking. Trying not to tear up just thinking about it. I got in just about overnight, but I didn't have much prep time to prepare myself emotionally. I was such a very active person Bizi, I can't walk the 127 steps to the beach, nor walk along the shore. I can't walk in a fair gounds with my friends. So I have to find out the truth if there is a correction from the top in the field. What I have is a degenerative joint condition called anterior tibial tendon disfunction, and it is indeed crippling, and causes more pain than I can endure without meds. Can you post for me? and just in a way that is simple. I am off line now till after the appt. I need all of you right now. thank you so much ginnie
