OMG!!!!
waves I had no idea that tartar sauce could veri so much.
Kraft for 2 tablespoons has 60 calories and 4.5 grams of fat.
and Burger king tartar sauce for 2 tab=280 calories and 32 grams of fat!!!!!!! yikes!!!!!!
so there is a huge difference in the products.
WOW!!!!
i think 1 tab of olive oil has 120 calories so 2 tab would be 240....looked it up 28 grams for the olive oil. but that is a good kind of oil!
sigh
bizi

I just looked up the kraft 2 Tab = 60 calories and 4.5 fat grams with only .5 grams of saturated fat.

lol Bizi

well i guess you won't be eating any tartar sauce at Burger King any time soon, willya???

well ok so you motivated me to go and look at my tartar sauce. surprise surprise. it isn't that bad. it's made with fresh pasteurized eggs, so a little saturated fat there and a little cholesterol, but not much at all. for the rest, it's sunflower oil. which is decent - no transfats.

i am "allowed" as much olive oil as i want. no limit there. my triglycerides are fine. my LDL is what's got bad, and it pushed my overall cholesterol over the top, too. that's the only concern. my HDL is just over minimum - could do with being a bit higher. the lecithin should help on both fronts. EXERCISE is what would really help.... sigh.

i don't do calories. it would drive me bananas. on rare occasions when i actually observe a "diet," what i do is i eliminate specific food items, or restrict how i eat certain things. yes/no/how i can handle. dissecting and adding up everything i put in my mouth would drive me batty in less than a day. i admire that you can do that without going batty.

Dear Bizi,

Waves has good LDL.
Her HDL is low (as is mine).

Red yeast rice extract can cause the same side effects as Lipitor (yuck) -- it does the same thing to the body.

My mdoc told me to increase exercise.
I saw something about increasing vit D to increase LDL
http://www.healthcentral.com/heart-d.../hdl-naturally.

Quote:
• Vitamin D─Restoration of vitamin D levels to normal can yield increases in HDL of 10, 20, even 30 mg/dl, though it may require up to a year for the full effect to show.

• Exercise─The magnitude of increase in HDL depends to a great degree on your starting level. People who begin from a sedentary lifestyle can expect 10 mg/dl increase or more; people who begin with mild-moderate activity can expect less.

Default cholesterol

Bizi and Mari.... thank you both for the red yeast rice info... didn't know about it at all.

Bizi, i'll have to look into Niacin... i take a B complex but i'd been off them for a good while before doing the labs... wonder if that affected things.

my LDL is too high - needs to go down. my total is too high but if my LDL were brought back within range the total would be also. my HDL is adequate but a bit higher would be better.

i've started the vitamin D... not yet sure what to do wrt to getting an adequate dose though, sigh. i do need to exercise... it would help so many things... double sigh. but how to *get myself* to DO it...

meantime, my mom and i are taking soy lecithin which is supposed to decrease LDL and increase HDL.... let's hope.

I should go back to lurk mode -- not making sense.

My mdoc did tell me to buy B6 over the counter and that if I do ok on it she will give me a script for it when she sees me.

awwwwww, Mari!!!

B6 too huh... hmmm.... niacin is B3. i'm seeing a pattern here. B6 is essential - with magnesium - to nervous system health too. we use more of it when under stress i believe... be careful though. that is the one that can cause nerve damage if taken in very high doses. it's water soluble - doesn't build up - just beware of megadoses.

Oh Crap.
I have no idea what mdoc wants me to take.
Maybe she wants me on niacin.
Does niacin get the "flush"?
When she and I talked on the phone I asked about the flush.

I could just go look at the photocopied blood work.
I can prob. read her hand writing.

M.

Last edited by Mari; 08-18-2010 at 12:31 AM. Reason: I checked the phocopies. She did not write anything about either B6 or niacin.

Dear Mari

yes niacin is the one that can produce "flush" initially.

here is a mayo clinic article on the use of niacin (B3) for boosting HDL cholesterol:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/niacin/CL00036

but i found out B6 may in fact help me... apparently it helps keep cholesterol down... this says most of us don't get enough... so maybe it my LDL surge did have to do with my not taking my usual vits for so long!
