Thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry that you had to give up your career. I know that must have been difficult.
I know there have been some success stories with ECT however most of them I have found were short term relief.

Hi,

I remember an article in Slate.com about a reporter who lost his memory via ECT:
http://www.slate.com/id/2127351
Living Memento: Is happiness worth losing your memory?
By Jay Michaelsonm Posted Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at 10:45 AM ET

The writer discussed in the Slate article lost fifteen years of his memory. He wrote a book about memory:

I have never met anyone that is bipolar nor anyone that has had ECT's before so I feel a bit lost.
Can anyone help?
Not sure if it was mentioned, but many communities have NAMI meetings in their area. ALso so community support areas. We have Candy's house I think it is called for MH hang out and support.
Check the NAMI.org website for your area.

Darcy,

I have cognition problems because of the meds and because of a stroke I had last summer.
My reading and writing are not in top shape.

Default Hello!

Hello Darcy and Payne (sorry don't know your real name).

I can relate to so much of what you've said. I currently do ECT. I would so love to talk to you Darcy about this. It's so difficult not having anyone to relate to. The memory loss, on the verge of losing my job because of the bipolar, meds and ECT.

The people on here are WONDERFUL! I can't express how much they have helped. Quite literally saving my life right now as I have been suicidal for a while. It seems like forever but I know that's my all or nothing thinking.

Anytime you would like to talk please send me a message. I hope to be able to give back some of what has been so very freely given to me here.

Debbie

Hi Debbie!

I am so thankful to have found this site! I will be checking out the other suggestions that were sent to me as well.
How are the ECT's going? How many have you had and how many more are planned?
I understand what you are going through. It is so hard to even think straight most of the time so sharing seems to help me focus my thoughts and to try to think clearly.
I felt in such a desperate state at the time when I have the treatments done. Actually, I didn't want to live so honestly at the time if the treatments would have killed me that would have been o.k. But, I did feel really good a few months after the treatments. I felt energetic, beautiful, full of life...better than I have ever felt that I can recall. But that only lasted a few months. I bottomed out and was re-admitted into the hospital.
I found a great Dr. for med management that really cares for me. (that is hard to find) and have a pretty good therapist. I just dont have anyone who can relate to my situation. Family and friends try but they just cannot understand. It is interesting how it seems that no one asks me how I am doing anymore because they are not sure how to respond to any of it.

I would love to hear more about your life and what is going on with you.
Hang in there! You have a found new friend and we will work on this together.
