It was actually a painting, that was part of a prophecy. They found a pattern like that when they discovered the ancient temple.

I saw a lot of the series once, a few years back, so my memory is fuzzy on the details, but this was a recurrent theme.

Also, when Kara "dies" it's because she sees this pattern in the sky, and believes it is the way to Earth (or something) and she flies into it... and disappears.

Here is a still shot of Kara's room... she has a mural of the symbol.

I see that the red and yellow rings are inverted from the nebula photo, but it's similar. I guess there are a lot of similar things in space.

Yes. Good memory. I never noticed it. You have a lot of detailed memory. I loved that show. BF

Steve,

I see that there are few versions of BSG, including a movie, a miniseries and two series.

I saw the most recent one, that aired 2004-2009:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407362/

Maybe you've been seeing the first series with Lorne Greene?

Cool

Ahh, ok! I guess you did see the same one I did!

We are posting at the same time.

It was a very, very cool show. I ate it up, for the most part. There were just a couple of episodes that were too violent for me, even for fiction. I don't remember which now, but I kinda phased out till those bits were passed.

Hi Waves I liked the new Battlestar Galactica. I remember that there was a Lorne Greene Battlestar Galactica, but it wasn't as good as the resent miniseries.

One thing that caught my attention in the miniseries,is that they would play a background music of drums when they were in battle in outer space. I thought that was cool. BF

I love those outer space science fiction movies. It's like a vacation from Earth problems. I like the outer space movies better if they were cleverly written, and have a satisfactory ending. You can tell that I like Star Trek,Star Gate SG-1,and Atlantis,Star Wars,Battle Star Galactica the mini-series,some of the Outer limit episodes from the mi-90s,The Red Planet, and others. They need to bring us some fresh material, because I'm getting bored with the new science fiction. BF

I did think they had very effective music on BSG, with the battle scenes and everything. Also remember that strange melody they kept hearing was the Hendrix's Watchtower.... "There must be some kind of way out of here...."

I like to watch the reruns, but yeah it's nice to see something new every now and then. I've seen most of Star Trek, multiple times, lol. I never saw the prequel series. I also have not seen Stargate. That's the problem with moving away from the US. The regular channels here run some of these things, but usually by the time I discover the time slot, they've gone through most of the series, and then they stop running it, or move it.

Also not all the channels provide the original audio. At first, they were all dubbed. When I first found Star Trek here, and wanted to watch the reruns, I couldn't understand a word of their translated technobabble! They'd say something, and I'd have to stop, deconstruct the terms, and ponder the parts, then 5 minutes later would be like, "OHHH yeah! Photon torpedos!" Then, having missed several minutes of the show, I'd try to tune in again and only to get blasted right away with another piece of unindentifiable flying verbage.

I'll have to keep an eye out for Stargate -- sounds like I might like that, since you do, LOL.

Hey, do you ever watch Doctor Who? Now there's one you might like. I like the old and the new ones. The new series is still running. I haven't seen much of either one though, so I've got some viewing space just with the old material. They run it here but they've moved it around so I haven't been able to catch it. Also that channel doesn't have original audio which kinda bites.

Oh my. That would be pretty disgusting to not have good sound. I would cringe.

Yes I love the music from some of the Science fiction moves. The theme music of the Star Trek movies have some of the best music. I have most of the Star Trek movies music on disk, and play it sometimes before I sleep. I've seen the original series each dozens of times. I saw all of them including the first ones with Admiral Pike.

I remember that song "We've got to get out of this place". Star Gate SG-1 stared Richard Dean Anderson from the series"MacGyver". I liked that too. He got out of problems with his Swiss Army knife, wires, drain pipes,Duct Tape, and other clever things. Richard Dean Anderson, and his team would go through this big ring, into a worm hole, and go to other planets. It was fun stuff.

It must be hard to enjoy having things lost in translation. That would be aggravating to me. "Photon Torpedos away..." That line in the first Star Trek movie would be hard to do. Chekov said that while they were in a worm hole. I don't believe that there are worm holes in space, but it's good science fiction.

I've heard that "Dr. Who" is good, but I've never seen it. When did it come on? Lost in time. lol BF

Oh wow! McGyver in a Sci Fi series... I never realized! I have got to see this!

I have gotten used to the dubbing by now... I do speak the language, it's just it took me some time to adapt and acquire terminology, but besides that, the made up terms don't always work too well in translation.

For instance, and this isn't so much technical either, when Picard says "Engage!" ... they can't translate that. It's translated to "Execute!" most of the time. The overall meaning is the same but it doesn't feel the same. Or when he says, "Make it so," ... they don't even bother try to keep the feel of that one. It turns into an "execute" or equivalent. So the dialog just loses a lot.

At first, when I was real frustrated and sometimes had trouble, I'd listen to the audio and try to lip read. Whenever I caught them out I'd holler at the television. I turned watching into a session of bashing their translations. If you can't beat 'em, beat 'em up!

Doctor Who is an old British show, like I think from the sixties but it used to air in the US... it was in reruns when I was in college, on network television.

I don't know if that one is airing now. They did a remake (still BBC) ... I'd imagine so. Someone from North Carolina mentioned that to me, so it was running somewhere, at some point, over there, but I couldn't tell you what network or what time. I'd try checking SyFy?
