I appreciate that you are trying to cheer me up.

I was glad for the shower. I am not saying I should not have had the shower.

The thing is, this is how it always is, shower or not. I am forever doing something other than what has priority. Not the top things on that list. That's a big problem.

Moreover, it's not like I didn't have time to do items #1 and #2. I have all the time in the world. I had time to do nothing and, in the evening, to watch tv. Timewise, I had enough to do everything on the list, and then some, without even having to hurry.

I will try hard, today, again, to do something job-related. :Sigh: :Scratch-Head:

I need to be doing something job-related every day. :o

And I really, really, really need to call and get that appointment. :o

Well

I got my ENT appointment.

I am also looking into a dentist appointment which I've been putting off with really lame excuses.

(Still haven't done the work-finding activities)

Yeah, so the dentist office turned out to be accessible, so I booked it.

I have hopes for this dentist. He is young, and he was friendly and outgoing. He does the little bitty x-rays and explained to me they are better than the whole-jaw x-ray that is the staple here. When he told me that, I was so happy, I was ready to walk all the way there. But we'll have to see IF he does the whole visit thing where they poke at each of your teeth in turn.

I haven't had a single dentist here do that methodical pokey thing. They ask you where it hurts. Superficial cavities don't hurt, DUH. The idea of seeing a dentist is that they catch any of these before they get worse.

Anyway. This kind of works out because I need to tell the ENT that I heard of him through this dentist. I realize that's confusing........

The new dentist is my GP's son, and he has worked with the ENT before. My GP is the one who referred me to the ENT, and said I could mention his son's name (even though I've never met the son). Since father (GP) and son (new dentist) dentist have the same surname I might not have to explain too much. But I feel awkward about this kind of indirect name-dropping. It is somehow reassuring to me that I will also have direct contact with the dentist, even if that appointment is after the ENT appointment.

But I'm really hopeful that he will work out as a dentist. For a long time, I figured worst case I'd be seen "properly" when I came back to the US. But that isn't going to happen. :( So I need a decent professional who will do x-rays and that pokey thing on a regular basis, and treat problems before I need the teeth pulled.

Yeah. Actuallly, what happened is my tooth hurt when I brushed. Felt the cold. :( I have a spot that is sensitive if i bite into something hard right on that spot, so I've known for a whlle there's probably a cavity. It's clearly gotten worse. Pain motivates. :rolleyes:

I hate this stupid keyboard! It keeps doubling letters! :mad: One more thing to do... go to the store (way out of town... half a day trip) to see if they'll fix my machine -- and be offline for who knows how long. :(

AND!!--- You have a dentist appt. Good job :icon_cool: Even better is that you expect he will be good. What is not clear to me --- you say he is friendly but it is not clear to me that you have ever been in his "chair" so to speak. Anyway, whether he is new or new-ish is close enough I suppose.

Maybe the machine is inventing a language and allowing itself to change the spelling expectations somewhat randomly. . . . Like a code. :eek:


Re: Random thoughts on language. I read yesterday somewhere that "ish" is becoming an almost accepted word all by itself.

I knew the name of the dentist from my GP and googled him but could not find office number. I had to call the cellphone, so I spoke to the dentist himself. I asked if I should get a jaw x-ray referral and that's when he told me he uses the little ones. He was friendly on the phone, and talkative about the x-rays. He gave me the office address which I had to check before booking. He also gave me the number to call for bookings, if I decided his office was reachable. I did not feel like he was rushing me off the line. He asked if I was American and where I'd lived, and told me about his own travels in the US. My first time in his chair will be next Wednesday.

Interesting. It seems to be used more and more, especially appended as an afterthought? I've heard it occasionally qualifying an entire phrase that way, to capture the thought, "Reconsidering what I just said, I'd like to take it down a notch or three." I wonder if that is the kind of usage you read about, or if it is being used in other ways?
