Smile diet thread 2

Thought I would start a new thread.

WEll I am back and was so afraid to get on the scale after my over indulgent vacation. As I have said before...I am either on a diet losing weight or I am gaining weight. I wish I could learn to maintain. I now weigh the most that I have weighed in years and my scrub pants are so tight.
I have decided to give my liver a break and abstain from drinking any mood effecting beverages, I think if I drink just water it will help with my weight loss.
I just started a liver detox cleanse, it lasts 3 weeks.
My sisters and I are going on a 4 night cruise to celebrate our 50th birthdays this year. I hope to be in shape by then. It will be in feb. that gives me 8 months to be in a bathing suit.
Wish me luck.
This will be the hardest challenge for me. Time to make an appointment with my therapist again.
bizi

I am on day three of caffeine free and have had a slight headache which they say is normal but that it should only last about 3 days. we'll see.
I have been drinking this cinnamon tea that I like. Tastes really good and sweet with out any sugar just plain rooibos, not sure of the spelling and am too lazy to get up and go look at the box. lol
Cutting out sugar from my diet has been very hard. I have an unopened big bottle of mango margaritas that I put away for now.
Ate healthy today. turkey meatloaf and kale and chard and beets for lunch.
Had left over pesto chicken and lentil soup and a big salad with feta cheese for dinner.
Day 3 of my cleanse and it is not working.....
I don't know what I am going to do.

Dear Bizi

well i simply must inaugurate the new thread with a post.

you won't normally see "results" from a detox/cleanse in 3 days. Please be patient.

Also be aware things might feel worse before they feel better. That happens often with cleansing/detox protocols.

Hats off to you for embarking on this healthier eating. I wish you well regarding the bathing suit for Feb... I know I would not want to go near one just now lol.

Keep us posted regarding how you go forward with the therapist.

(((hugs)))

Bizi

We are hear to listen when you need.

I think yo will do just fine. Just keep at it.

And yes, one of the best things to drink is water. And it gets easier
all the time to drink water. I learned how much as time went on.

I stopped and missed it. And am back at it again.

I am not eating as healthy as I should, but lots of the reason is
its to hot. But as long as I eat, I feel its okay.

I found out yesterday as long as they have a little give in them.
I can wear a 16w, in blue/black jeans. Wow, this is something
I don't believe I have done, in 3 or 4 years.

I was so proud of me. I bought a new outfit.

Dear Bizi...

I see photos of you and I would NEVER, in a thousand years, think of you as heavy!! I'm not saying this to make you feel good about yourself... but to give you my perspective (from way up here in Canada!).

I've "known" you for several years... and of course, known "of" you for even more. I have a soft spot in my heart for you - and part of it is because I "know" and love your Momma, my friend, Alffe. But the biggest reason I admire you is for your compassion, your sensibilities and for continually seeking to better yourself. You're smart! and.. Like many people here in these forums, you're constantly growing.

Growing.... now, there's an interesting choice of words... which we can chose to read 2 ways.
1. Physically growing... our bodies change regularly.
2. Mentally growing... that's the one I meant

I was moved to respond, several times... but held myself back wondering if my observations would be helpful here. I read tremendous support from the Dmom, Mari and Waves. They gently remind you of what you may or may not already know... and more importantly, they're pulling up a chair and listening.

This jumped out at me again today:
Quote:
As I have said before...I am either on a diet losing weight or I am gaining weight.
Patterns... yuck... I get so down on myself when I repeat a pattern... but the ticket is, I am now much quicker to recognizing the path... as I think you are, too, Bizi... its the "wrong" path for you... keep trying to find the right now, my friend.

Last night I watched a repeat of a "Nature of Things" documentary which featured Dr. Gabor Mate. This man started me on my path of helping me figure out myself (over 12 years ago) when my youngest son was dx'ed with mild tourettes syndrome and adhd. (<< amazing that I have 4 possessive ME's in that sentence - shows how connected I was in playing a role in my son's development!) Last night's documentary reminders can be seen here in this 10 minute video - when you've got the time... I encourage you to listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CadOdHUGfwU Dr. Mate works with extreme heroin addicts and his discoveries of how our minds and bodies are connected is amazingly deep. This video is only a snippet.

(((Bizi))) ... its a tumultuous time in this world... and I may be bold to say, its worse than anything humans have ever experienced. Let's all reach out for each other!

Addy
Hi, Addy,

I could not get the video to work on my browser. I did find a transcript of an interview of Dr. Mate talking about the mind / body connection:

http://www.democracynow.org/2010/2/1..._when_the_body
+++++++++++++

AMY GOODMAN: As we wrap up this part of our discussion, what do you think are the most useful ways people can deal with stress, with the mind-body connection, both people themselves and also what doctors should be telling their patients, or what patients should be telling their doctors?

DR. GABOR MATÉ: The body has many ways of saying no: almost any symptom, a stomach ache, a back spasm, a headache, nausea, dry mouth, poor sleep, muscle tension. I’m talking about relatively minor symptoms. These are all ways of the body saying no. As of course are the more severe conditions, like psoriasis or ulcerative colitis, all the ones that I’ve already mentioned. These are all ways of the body saying no.

We need to, first of all, to say and pay attention to what the body is saying to us. So if we have a symptom, don’t just go to the doctor and say, “Take this symptom away from me” — yeah, ask for help — but also explore what the body is saying no to. Usually you’ll find that in your life you’ve taken on too much, you’re suppressing yourself, you’re trying to please others too much. You’re living life along patterns that don’t express who you really are. So the symptom or the disease ought to be not just something that you want to get rid of; it ought to be the beginning of an exploration and investigation of how you live your life and how you might possibly live your life differently, in a more healthy fashion.

AMY GOODMAN: And do you think modern medicine is dealing better, Western medicine, with this, with the mind-body connection?

DR. GABOR MATÉ: There are encouraging signs. There’s certainly people like Jon Kabat-Zinn, who talks about stress and mindfulness, and Andrew Weil, who talks about the importance of nutrition and a more holistic approach. So there are many people doing great work.

But if I look at the profession as a whole, we’re doing a dismal job. And we’re spending billions of dollars on researches into cancer and so on that are never going to get us anywhere, because we ignore the life stresses that very often, if they don’t by themselves cause, they certainly contribute in a major way to the onset of disease. But we’re not looking at them. We’re not dealing with them. And we’re leaving people without the appropriate tools to restore their own health.

+++++++++++++

I like what he says about "living life along patterns that don’t express who you really are."

I am learning but I find it soooooo hard to "pay attention to what the body is saying" partly because with bipolar we have learned to ignore or over ride what the body/ mind is saying.

I think you are right mari,
I am trying to listen to my body more....but it is very hard to do. This is one reason that I am trying to take better care of myself, reeling in the over indulgence. I need to live a life of moderation. My friend said that I should try to do all of the changes at once....I am an all or nothing kind of gal.

Thanks for saying something, is all I can say. I think your words of
wisdom are great.

I found along the way, that if I tried to do everything at once. Nothing
happened. So I stopped trying everything at once, and concentrated
on the most important thing at the time. For me that was my health.

And usually it was getting my diabetis under control. So my diet was
very important. And when losing weight was a side effect of this, it
was a added nice side effect.

Now I am just hoping I can continue to lose more. My goal is to
one day be down to 180. But I am not expecting it to happen. I
will let everyone know if it does though.

heehee.
