Default The Subject No One Wants To Talk About,Constipation!

My condition in over 2 years has caused B&B paralysis and I use Valium and self cathing for the bladder, but although I have tried every OTC and RX known to man, nothing has worked and in 2 years I have went from daily to sometimes 5-7 days causing no end of pain and misery...so anyway I have seen same commercial over and over and decided why not try it, can't hurt, it is Activia like a yogurt or a smoothie by Dannon so a week ago I tried the smoothies and they worked somewhat and 2 days ago I broke down and got a 4 pack of the yogurt and I ate 2 of them, and I was on day 5 or 6, and I had a very large normal BM all on my own and that for me was a miracle, no Rx, just a slightly more expensive yogurt and I will go that route for awhile hoping that one a day may no doubt regulate me again and maybe I am not the only one that has this problem which I seriously doubt! Gross I no but I feel sure it is a very real probel for most of us ad I want as few pills as I can in my life so for me this is very exciting and yet another subject unable to share with family!

Constipation is a subject that most people avoid. Most of the pills we take for pain list constipation as a side effect. It’s great you have found something that helps.

My DH has huge problems with this wonderful little subject. He is unable to control his bowels and is very constipated. He will become very impacted and it will have to be removed digitally. Nothing has worked for him. He says he would rather be constipated than, well…too loose….

Our family members have no idea what we go through on a daily basis. They just don’t want to know the icky stuff.

How are you managing your pain??

Hey Junie~ I have suffered from the dreaded constipation for quite a while, as I have IBS and my meds are big culprits also. I try to eat plenty of fiber, drink tons of water, but it never seems to be enough. I take Benefiber mixed in my yogurt or water and it helps keep me more regular.

I really like Activia yogurt. I'm not eating it now, as am eating the Yo Plus, but I try and keep it on hand, as it's good for you all around. My Dr says it's good for cleaning the bad bacteria out of your sx and even when you have a sinus infection, etc~ he said the bad bacteria drains into your stomach and "further" so yogurt is helpful. (w/active cultures)

I add walnuts, raisens or dried cranberries to mine just to spice it up.

Thanks for the info.... Have a good one, Junie ( no pun intended~grin)

I'm the kinda person that nothing really bothers me. When I was constipated I did everything literally to solve it and I finally found my answer.

I'm sure you have heard of a colonic irrigation. It's a super serious procedure only to be done by professionals. I believe there are TWO tubes put inside you, one for in and one for out and it is a little painful. Of course it's only done in a hospital by professionals. I wasn't ready for THAT but I did one almost as good.

My parents have the standard shower head and they also installed a secondary showerhead with a nice long showerhose hooked to it. I thought to myself, "why don't I unscrew the showerhead and just screw on a 1/2 inch attachment?". What I found is a 1/2 inch attachment that allows you to screw another hose instead of a showerhead. Like, if you wanted double the hose length before you put on the showerhead, you would put this little attachment on, then screw on a second showerhose THEN the shower head on that. I just put on the attachment without anything else so now I have this showerhose with these little 1/2 inch threads sticking out.

So I get in and close the shower door, put my one leg up, take my free hand and put it on my one butt cheek and pull it outwards to "make room". Turn the water on and use the waterstream to find my target.....my butthole. So, I find my target and gently push into my butthole until I start to feel my colon fill up with water. I mean, you barely gotta push the threads in there.

So, I feel my colon filling up and then I feel the feeling like I REALLY gotta go to the bathroom. I drop everything, shut off the water and pounce on the toilet seat. Do you know how great it is to, just 5 minutes ago, be on the toilet straining to take a poop and nothing is happening to being on the toilet and everything is happening?!?! It is unbelieveable!!!!

You gotta remember you are only plumbing out your lower colon so, if it's your first time you gotta do this like 20 times but, it's worth it cause it's super safe. It takes 20 times to loosen up that impacted stuff. I'll tell you exactly what will happen your first time.

The first 3-5 times, you definitely get "something" to come out but between 6-12 just the water you sent in comes out but fear not.....between 13-20 is when the DEEP DARK stuff comes out. You know how regular poop stinks like, a little but not super bad and it's basically a brown to light brown??? This stuff that came out of me after the 20th time was very stinky and very dark (not bloody) and you just know it is deep, impacted stuff. You have to stick with it back on your 13th and 14th time when only water is coming out and really just trust me, it will be worth it.

You feel so good when it's done like, you know you did something that was really good for yourself! Did you know there are a lot of animals, mostly birds, that do this to themselves?? Saw a bird stick his whole beak up his butt and flushed it out!!

How much of this do you wanna put up with?? Yeah, I know it's a weird thing to do but it works, every time. It's not like poop medicine that your body gets used to. Any questions just post them here.

A Very Helpful Recipe from another chronic pain website this stuff works.

Yakima Fruit Paste

DOSE: 1-2 tablespoons per day

1 pound prunes
1 pound raisins-pitted
1 pound figs
4 oz senna tea (look in your health food store, it looks like a bunch of leaves)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup lemon juice

1. Prepare tea-use about 2 1/2 cups boiled water added to tea and steep 5 minutes.
2. Strain tea to remove tea leaves and add only 1 pint tea to a large pot, then add fruit.
3. Boil fruit and tea for 5 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and add sugar & lemon juice. Allow to cool.
5. Use hand mixer or food processor to blend fruit mixture into smooth paste.
6. Place in plastic container and place in freezer. (Paste will not freeze but will keep forever in freezer).
7. Spoon out what you require each day.

Enjoy eating it straight off the spoon.
Spread it on toast or add hot water and make a drink.

* If the fruit paste is not working (you are not having bowel movements) then you need to increase the amount of fruit paste you are taking.

* If the fruit paste makes you have very loose stools then you need to cut down on the amount of fruit paste you are taking. Perhaps even taking it every other day in some cases.
