Hi, I had 2 wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. left upper and lower. Ihave been in constant pain ever since. I was not aware of dry socket until my sister told me. As soon as i went home i looked it up and made sure i followed everything not to do. But still am in pain. The dentist basically took them out, gave me a simple fact sheet and said to take some panadol if needed. 3 days later i was still in so much pain i went back and saw another dentist who said i had dry socket. put some stuff on my gums and sent me on my way. the next day hilst eating this stuff came out of my socket, so i called the dentist again. the receptionist told me the gauze had prob come out and to come back if needed to be re-packed. this freaked me out as i had no idea the dentist even put gauze in there, let alone tell me what to do if it fell out or if i needed to come back. I have been applying clove oil on which has been helping a little. when will the pain go away?
sorry for long winded msg. mezz |

Hi Mezz,
Go back to the dentist asap. You cannot cure this yourself at home because the socket is dry and needs to be surgically debrided to get the blood flowing again. If you don't get this done, the bone will not heal properly. I know this is scary, but it will feel so much better once the debridment is done and the socket will be packed again with an impregnanted piece of gauze that smells like clove oil. You may have to go back to the dentist a few more times for him to repack it. Please don't try to do this on your own, it will not work, get in to see him as soon as you can. Let us know how you are doing! Bryanna Quote:

Thanks for your response. I will def go back as soon as i am able to. I am just sooo annoyed that i haven't been given the proper information treatment. I was never told that i needed to come back at all after getting it packed (let alone that it was was packed lol). was just offered some stronger pain killers and that it could take a few days or a week to feel better. I am tempted to write a letter of complaint. i felt like i was being a pain ringing up all the time.
Thanks again. |

Hi Bryanna,
Thanks for your response. will try to get there today or tomorrow (have 2 young kids so need a babysitter) I wish i had been told all this info and not have to resort to loking it up on the internet. It makes me really angry, as i feel i have been calling them constantly asking questions. I wasn't aware i needed the gauze to help the healing process - i thought it just helped the pain, which is why i was treating it myself. They told me it was up to me if i wanted to come back in and get it re-packed when it came out, but that it wasn't necessary. The pain isn't as intense anymore and i seem to be getting my appetite back. but still can't eat much....on the plus side i lost 5kg in 3 days ![]() seem to be managing the pain with ibuprofen as i can't take anything stronger as it knocks me out...which prob isn't good trying to look after 2 kids. thanks again Quote:
