Frown Please, someone, give me some ideas!!!!!!

I *can't* quit thinking, "my life's half over"!!!!!!
I mean, it's not keeping me from doing things I need to do, but, I can't
rid of this thought, regardless, what, else I'm doing!!!!!!

Hi Ponygirl!

I just stumbled across your post here, (I don't think many people pay attention to the depression forum, I don't know why). I don't know what advice I can give, maybe you could try getting councelling if you're not already. Until then just try to distract yourself, watch a movie, read a book; you'll come to terms with it eventually. Everyone has to go through this in their lives.

Sorry I couldn't be more help,
Hang in there

Hi P., Noticed your plea for help and ideas. Lonely 1 has certainly been through the dark times and his ideas are offered from a place of truly "getting it". Hope there was some support for you. I don't know your story so it is hard to offer much but, anytime someone has the guts to ask for help I feel it is a huge step in the right direction. My thoughts.....

OK, so maybe your life as you used to be, or knew yourself as "so and so" is half over, perhaps there is an unknown part of you ready to emerge once you allow it. Opening up to ask for help indicates more than you realize. Asking for help means you have not given up hope for some kind of future. This is good. Try to stay in this moment and let this news percolate. Hope is worth holding onto. The unknown future is worth the risk to find out what might be. Distract your mind from worry and imagined future scenarios. I can almost guarantee you that life will be very different from your imagined fears etc... Life has this way of turning around on us, just when we least expect it. Depression is a signpost that reads " time to turn here". It does not mean half over, just change of scenery on inner levels. Hang in there, Best Wishes TT

Default water

Do you see the glass half full or half empty? Or even half capacity?

I only know that I find inner resources in areas where I had not known were available. I also discover that my usual identity or ego-mind, often overestimates my resources with unpleasant repercussions. I guess my answer is to attempt to hold loosely the "not knowing". The string held neither too tight nor too loose. This has been my own key to making through with the least suffering. As soon as I place limits, tighten up and cling to one way or the other, suffering begins. Best Wishes TT

Default I'm with ya on this one Ponygirl!

I've battled depression since it's 'infancy' in getting the official
Name! In days of old, people did not speak of it.
They either, were 'put away' somewhere,.....or......well anyway...

What has saved me countless times is surrounding myself with humor! As much as possible!
One of my favorites is Craig Ferguson......he's 'our' age and even tho, yeah it may be a statistical fact that our lives are half over,.. Craig has this 'way' of making it seem 'ok'.....just by his humor, wit, and stupidity......Thanks to him I know the true meaning of laughing till your ribs hurt. !

He makes fun of himself as he ages and I soak it right up!

Humor is true medicine..... ! It's a proven medical fact!
Also proved by scripture in the Bible!

Whoever or whatever it is that can make you laugh, keep recordings on hand. Use it as ammunition when that dark depression cloud tries to take over.

Smile Thank you soooo much, everyone, for your wonderful replies!!!

I'm so sorry, I haven't been here, until, today, to reply to everyone!
I misplaced my user-name & password for this place, then, I had to go
through a lot, so, I could get it, again!
Anyhow, I guess, I should tell you that "the thought" is still happening!
I've tried *everything*, but, it won't stop!

Smile Hi Phyllis

Soooo, what is it about life being 'half over' that is consuming you in a negative way? Is it the fear of dying? do you believe in an afterlife or a higher power? (you don't have to answer these Q's if you are not comfortable).

It took a LONG time for us to get to this point! So, we still have a LONG way to go! Lots to look forward to!
I personally wouldn't want to turn back time and re-live the turmoil of puberty and the teen years and my divorce (from 1st husband) and how hard I had to work to get where I'm at now.....

I'm looking forward to being more mature and experienced in situations that once seemed 'too stressful' to contend with.

I guess I'm just wanting to know what part of the 'half over' thing is weighing the heaviest on you?

I care

To answer your question, no, I'm not religious and don't believe
in the after-life. To me, we're just put under-ground, then, we're just
a memory to those, who, cared about us. My issue is, I *know*, my
life will end, eventually. I just can't stop thinking, "I don't want it to"!
How can I learn to except it, without, trying to fight it,
because, fighting it is a lost-cause??

Red face OK......I'm gonna go out on a limb here....

I truly respect each individual's freedom of choice and what they believe....

I just want to ask (because i CARE ).....
Have you ever pondered......'what IF'....... ?........

I see that this thoughtlife is really a battle for you.....and believe me, i do know 'battles'......(have had my share)...

If you tried opening your heart up to believing in God ? And actually asked Him to come in to your heart and have a relationship with Him.......
Do you think there would be a chance of this 'battle within' become something you can put in your past and have a new hope.... ?

I'm truly sad for you that you have this battle going on .
You deserve to be happy.
Make a list of all the things you have to live for.....

I'm not a pushy religious person, so please take this in the heart it is meant.
Your honesty in answering this will help me to try and understand
