I do feel so fortunate that things did not turn out worse. I will definitely drink lots of water. I didn't know they have the cranberry pills. I may look into those rather than the juice. It's not that good tasting to me.

Several years ago I fell down some steps in the winter and landed smack-dab on my kidneys. I went ahead to work, but by afternoon I was running a temp of 105. It took some really powerful antibiotics to get me over that. It had turned into a kidney infection in a matter of a few hours. That's the only other time I've dealt with a high fever. But after yesterday, I want to do all I can to avoid it.

I appreciate so much all of the information. Jim is such a hero for all he has been through and you are also a hero for being such a loving caretaker for Jim.

It's good to know your neuro advises the cranberry pills. And I definitely don't need the extra calories right now. Thanks so much! I'm going to go get me a glass of water right now!!!

Oh my goodness, Friend, what a scare. I'm so glad you're OK, now.

I used to get raging UTIs, but after becoming allergic to many ABs, I learned from my Doc, the cranberry juice/pills and making sure I empty my bladder, daily.

The hint that I am getting or have a UTI is, I feel like I'm coming down with something, I'm listless, weak, and have a hard time squeezing my urine dry. I dbl up on the cranberry and ASO has some pills to help with the symptoms. Usually I can nip it in the bud, before needing ABs.

Feel better..

I am glad you are better. I had a mild UTI recently and I am pretty numb so your post is so timely for me.

The info on cranberry pills is great. Since I am also "juicing" and LOVING it, I will also add cranberries to some of my concoctions.

But most important, I am glad your fever did not get out of hand and that you are better.

Wow I am glad you are OK. That had to be scary. One thing to note that my urologist warned me of. He recommends Azo pills to help with the symptoms of a UTI but warns that they do nothing to actually clear up the infection, and sometimes mask the infection. But they do work great for the symptoms.

Wow, I'm so glad you're okay!

I just got done yesterday with my antibiotics for my UTI. Mine started Sunday morning, I drank a TON of water and almost two quarts of cranberry juice just that day. Woke up the next morning and it was a lot worse. Nothing quite like peeing razors.

I ended up going to urgent care to get antibiotics, and the practitioner treated me like a criminal for having a UTI. They gave me a Sulfa and after two doses we discovered I'm allergic to them. So a round of Cypro got me over it.

Some signs are dark urine, strong smelling urine, and for me, feeling dehydrated even with drinking a ton of water.

I'm going to have to find me some cranberry pills, that sounds great and I can't stand cranberry juice.

I hope you don't have to go through this again. Oh and something my pulmonologist told me, about sulfa drugs anyway, was that the reason you are supposed to drink a lot of water with them is that they are very hard on the kidneys. I was drinking more than 13 cups of water a day for three days after stopping them and still so dehydrated that when you push on my finger the skin wouldn't spring back for at least a minute.

Hopefully this thing is gone for good, good luck!

Glad you are feeling better, Friend. I'm so sorry for your UTI and all that you had to go through b/c you didn't feel it. Stay well, Friend.

Just a warning about Cipro for UTIs...if you're on zanaflex, they don't mix well...one decreases the effectiveness of the other (can't remember which does what).
also, my neuro told me to take ester c vitamins instead of the cranberry pills, just because the cranberry pills are so expensive, and you urinate out whatever you don't use... "Mighty expensive pee" he said...he feels that the vit. c is just as effective. Ester C goes into the gut, so doesn't get destroyed by stomach acid as quickly...

gosh,

i'm so glad you're on the mend.
if you're prone to yeast infections keep in mind that you can develop oral thrush as well.

i got that once and didn't pick up on it right away. by then it was really uncomfortable and took a while to go away.

get well soon.

Debs right. When Jim was on Cipro it increased his Tizanidine four fold I believe. He would cut it in half while on Cipro. That was the pharmacist idea and he was right. Jim was totally stoned within hours after taking Cipro. The danger is overdose. Plus there is something about Cipro and muscle damage I believe. Jim tolerates Cipro with no problems but some may have that side effect.
