Default Brain lesions

On 7-2009 I had an MRI done and this is what it said about brain lesions: A single focus of abnormal T2 signal is demonstrated in periventricular white matter in the right frontal region. Lesion is nonspecific. The differential included gliosis, migraine, microvascular change, or demyelination. Following contrast administration, mass is not identified. No areas of abnormal enhancement are noted. Single focus of abnormal T2 signal and are right frontal white matter. The lesion is nonspecific with differential as noted above.
I then had another MRI done on 7-2010 and this one said: . There are few small T2 hyperintesities in the deep white matter regions bilaterally which appears stable. These are over the frontoparietal lobe regions bilaterally. No other abnormal signal intensity or enhanc?ement is seen and there are no extra-axial collections. 1. A few small T2 hyperintensities in the deep white matter over both frontoparietal lobes. These are of uncertain etiology but are stable.
My family doctor sent me to a neurologist after I pointed this out to him. The neurologist didn't seem to be concerned at all. My concern is that there was a single lesion on the first MRI and a few on the second. Is this something I should be concerned about?

first, breath. its very scary, and a wild ride to know you have spots on your brain, and no one is rushing forth to give you answers.

as i tell most here, there are more than 100 diseases that can mimic MS, including the brain lesions. from migraine syndrome to vitamin def, to lyme, lupus and so forth. your md normally starts with a full tray of blood work. They rule out all those things that can easily be ruled out. then they are left with about 25 things that cant be shown on blood work. from RA (arthritis) to Sjoghren and the like. These things are dealt with by your symptoms. Once they are down to a handful of 4 or 5 they will start to pick the one that most fits YOUR symptoms. It may be MS or it may be Devics or it may be simple migraine patterns.

Have you considered an MS clinic? is there one in your area? The NMSS.org will be able to help direct you to a space to get answers. Its a hard thing to hear that you may have something wrong, and then be told to wait. hang in there.

My first MRI report said maybe MS also before that that some spotting might be expected at my age of 46. I was sort of insulted by this but hearing MS was worse. Who knows? I guess we all get some spotting or was it something about white matter and age? Breathe. They use big, unfamiliar words (at least to me) and discovered later I misinterpreted some

Aha, the Neuro is "not concerned at all". There you have it...it's all in your head.

I understand you are frightened but, try not to be too stressed out about it. It will only make things worse. I hope your symptoms are minor for now. Time will tell you more.

Feel better and keep us posted..

What are your symptoms? What is the reason that you had an MRI in the first place?

In the beginning my MS was 'very' active for a 4 year period and I had 2 very small lesions. I progressed quickly...

Now, I've been attack free since 1996. I gained back lost ground. Now, I have lesions too numerous to count!

My experience is to say don't worry about it. There is one exception; my optic nerve would concern 'me'.

Take care.

everyone makes a good point.
i would say it's worrisome at this point.
did you have an abnormal neuro exam? then i might push for more answers.

it doesn't sound like you have any active lesions and 1 or 2 isn't a lot.

i'd just lay low. go about your life but be mentally watchful of any sx's (symptoms). if you have sx's keep a journal of sx and date for your dr.

keep in touch with us and let us know how you are. if you need any support we're here for you.
