Yes, Frank, I would strongly recommend using "water" as a form of exercise. Water allows "natural resistance" when exercising, one does not overheat (make sure pool water is not heated!), and is easier on the joints. I use water aerobics and swimming as a form of exercise

I go to water aerobics class three times a week and I love it!!
I can walk forwards and backwards in the water and the water helps me keep my balance. We have several ladies in our class who use walkers on land but you should see them in the water. One 93 year old can really kick *****; oops; I meant so say she does very well! ![]() |

Hey Frank,
I go to water therapy at our local rehab pool. It is just wonderful. I can do things in the water, that I couldn't dream about doing on land. It is a very diverse group (all shapes, ages and maladies). The pool is heated to 92 degrees, but that doesn't bother me at all. We have all kinds of exercise equipment to use, and can even do sit-ups and pull ups with the extra equipment in the deep end. I really recommend it, its easy on your joints, but you get a workout.I tried the classes, but like the free exercise times better. Good luck! |

I just got a precription from neuro for water therapy for bad disc in lower back. I am thinking I might like this and continue after I am done since the therapy place lets you use the pool on your own time for a fee once you have done therapy there.

I've heard great things about water therapy with MS, but I can't handle the cold.

Hard to beat water as an exercise, low impact and as bad as I walk no fear of falling. We got an above ground pool shortly after I herniated a disc in 94 and it was a help. Also an easier place for me too move now with the MS.

My MIL moved into a new house with a pool last spring and I spent most of the summer in the pool. It was amazing how much I could do in the water and how much it helped me.
