Shocked Life in slow motion

Its a holiday weekend. We have come back to the old town, to be around the sick FIL, and are meeting up with loads of old friends, and family. its great to see everyone, but...

I am seeing that since being dxd, I am in slow motion next to everyone else. I have spent my whole life being a doer, and a very capable busy person. I used to put so many of my friends to shame with how many errands, tasks, and jobs I could get done. If you want something done, give it to a busy person to do. That was me! The kids were raised, the house was clean, school was all As ontop of 2 jobs, and so on. zoooom!

The weekend is starting to show me that I have dramatically slowed down. I see my friends zip, zooming around, and managing 6 things at once, and me? Im sitting on the side lines scratching my head.

When did I down shift? When did I get this comfortable being in the slow lane? There is NO way I could manage 10% of what I used to do. I live a great life, and have many blessings, but this weekend is gonna be a mind blower for me. Even my lazy friends are whipping circles around me.

Very interesting to see how far things have gone. I guess I am a watcher now, and not a doer. go figure.

Me, too Dej. I honestly don't mind the slower pace, though. I'm not near as anxious as I used to be. When I worked....and I did 12-14 hour days....I was constantly thinking about the next thing I needed to do. I was always one step ahead of myself and never really enjoying the present.

I feel like I did my time of being the "hyper one". Let somebody else have a shot at it!! Funny thing is.....now hyper people annoy me!!

I do hate to miss out on the outdoor activities I used to love but the heat just zaps the energy right out of me. It's one of my most obvious sx when warm weather gets here. Everything has to be done super early in the morning or very late at night. I feel like a vampire!

I hear Ya Dej and yet, I so agree with Kell's prospective on things. I love the slow lane, now.

I too find that those buzzy, busy folks annoy the crap out of me. They make coffee nervous.

I am enjoying the slow lane. I am not anxious, rushed, stressed, or in a panic about what to serve for dinner. I am no longer 5 steps ahead of myself. I am enjoying the now. the here. the this moment of it all. Im glad I got my ambitious level over with early in my life, cause if I had to go backwards, I would not make it. Im exhausted just watching my SIL. Good gravy!

Yes, Dej, I too can relate! Used to be the busy bee organizing everything, multi-tasking with three kids, etc. No more. It was a big shock when the realization first happened, but now I kind of enjoy sitting back watching the "next generation" take over. It's nice to be waited on once-in-awhile after all. The only trouble with so many "cooks" using my kitchen, I never know where they put things. Used to know where everything was, now it's like a scavenger hunt!

Try to relax and enjoy giving someone else a chance ......

PS: Do you find that all the noise from people talking, dishes and pots clanking, kids yelling, etc., is totally exhausting???? Whew!!!!

I'm so with you here Dej. I would think nothing of 12 hour days at work. was active, triathlons, busy and strong.
When did the change happen???? was it so gradual that I didn't notice? Or has it become worse since I found out? Is it all in my mind? am I slower now because I think I should be?
All I know is life is SO much slower now. I can't manage a whole day without sitting lots, an afternoon nap or an early night.
A tortoise overtook me the other day...

Yes!!! I'm so glad you said this as I was feeling like I was the only one getting exasperated at all the noise others make while I'm busy trying to do nothing!!

I so relate to this, Dej! I was the sanguine tornado-on-speed and could outlast all children. But, ya' know, I've discovered a lot of things that I can do better and more efficiently because I've steadied my pace!

I think I almost pity the spastic/hyper people now.
