Default im new meow

have peripheral neuropathy and migraines and just googled tonight the connection between gluten sensitivity and PN. So I have eliminated wheat for the most part from my diet but now I am doing it full time, I already have less headaches and am looking to see the affect of it on my PN. I have many other symptoms that have gone away with less wheat consumption as well.

Due to PN I have been put through some blood tests to see why its there and to rule out any of the serious reason for PN, could be just idiopathic PN (no reason) but I am betting on Gluten Sensitivity... so out with the wheat and gluten.

Default Welcome to Neurotalk.

Can you tell us the results of your tests to this point (if you are comfortable doing that)?

Neuropathy has so many potential causes the work-ups are often long and expensive, assuming you can find a doctor willing to be as comprehensive as needed, and not always fruitful (many do end up being idiopathic). And symptoms them stem from the central nervous system--brain and spinal cord--can absolutely mimic those that come from peripheral nerve.

Still, two big sources of information you should be aware of--

The Liza Jane spreadsheets, designed to be about as comprehensive a database as could be regarding testing for neurological symptoms (and a great way to track results/patterns of testing over time):

www.lizajane.org

The Gluten File--linked here in our gluten forum--the most comprehenisve database on the subject now extant, including much information about neurological manifestations of gluten sensitivity/celiac:

Grin test results

ugg I went and typed out my test results and little more about me and the log in had timed out and nothing saved. pretty much the only thing high was M-spike in aug it was 1.2 g/dl and now in Jan it was 1.0 g/dl.

I suspect it will not amount to anything but a spike and will be either MGUS or nothing.I think m-spike will come down with 100% elimination of gluten. I also think the PN will improve without gluten.

You dont find a lot about M-spike apart from the M Mylemoma, but i have read a lot of stuff about how M-spikes happen for reasons that are not so serious.

thats all for now got to drop off my UPEP

Default Although--

--in relation to neuropathy, you should take a look through the follwoing section from the Washington University/St. Louis Neuromuscular website about monocolonal antibodies (M-proteins):
