I've been living a nightmare since anterior hip replacement in 2010.
Often wish I had my old pain back, BUT, the groin pain from spurs is gone but I'm left with so many complications. One major one is Femoral Nerve Damage, thigh down from incision is numb and often tingles, femoral nerve is in the incision area .. about 15% I've read end up with this FND and I'm one of those. Other is IT band damage and numbness along side of thigh and shorter leg, sure sounds like I got a botch job. Reflecting on this major surgery, it's a wonder so many have good outcomes.. Maybe someone knows about this FND and if the nerve(s) ever come back to life....thanks.. |

Hi caroline,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups. I see you've posted in General Health Forum, but also wanted to suggest you check the Forum Search Feature (link below) for past posts that may be of some help while waiting for responses. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/search.php I just ran a search for - Femoral Nerve Damage - and it brings up a number of past posts. I clicked on posts rather than threads. Some are on the Meralgia Paresthetica Forum but others elsewhere. I'm not sure if those ideas are helpful, but just thought I'd let you know. take care |

Hi Caroline,
I am so sorry for what you are going through. I have damage to my calcaneal branch from an ortho surgery that required later neuroma resection. So not what we signed up for right? I recently posted several links on nerve injury resources on the CRPS/RSD forum. If you run a search for "nerve injury resources" it should come right up. I posted that in April. Links are to Washington University Peripheral Nerve program run by Dr. Susan Mackinnon. Loads of info and even a physician training site to refer your doctors to. If you have trouble finding it let me know and I will re-post. Sending Healing Love and prayers, Littlepaw ![]() |

Thanks Littlepaw, I will look at your info later as I'm headed out to my Sat. bridge game, but I posted in the Alternative section here on some supps a naturopath suggested for me to try when I saw her last week....I'm taking 2 of the 4 she told me to look into.
I'm not familiar with the calcaneal branch, is this from a back surgery? I have a horrid OA back, but plan to make it to my end with what I deal with and manage....thanks... I have a dear friend who has been dealing with RSD for many years. |

Have fun at Bridge! I am glad you are getting out. The calcaneal branch is in the ankle. I used to be a runner and big hiker, not so anymore but I am making steady progress. Let me know if you need any more info. There is hope. Keep up the search for healing. |

Oh dear, I was never a runner, but a lot of long distance walking and exercised from my late 20's to mid 60's....but never pushed myself. At 77 soon, and since hip replacement, my knee and foot/ankle are all affected since leg came out shorter...it's been a nightmare...but no groin pain, which was the biggest pain going on at the tip of my decision. Now, I cannot walk very far at all, and ride my recumbent bike in living room to keep knee moving and I do knee bicycle motions on my bed. I'll check the info later.
I have a friend who's 55 yr old daughter had reconstruction surgery on her foot and it's 10 months soon and she can maybe take 3-4 steps at a time. It's really been a very very hard surgery on her. My daughter has collapsed tendon in one foot and she's raising 2 children alone and can't imagine a surgery at this point. Ah, life we never know what will be thrown to us to deal with. |

Hi Caroline, I just got finished reading through this thread, and I feel so bad that you have had to cope with your situation for five years! I don’t think I can really be of much help to you, but I did have a thought about exercising by using knee bicycle motions on your bed.
I don’t think this type of exercise would have the same ergonomic benefits as using your recumbent bike, but I’m not entirely sure. I do know that in my own case I was advised to exercise on a stationary bike, which only made my leg pain a lot worse. I hope you are able to find new ways of managing your condition effectively. |

Hi again, I do the knee bike exercises on my bed almost daily to some degree, and use my recumbent bike in L.R. when I get off my butt, find I get lazy too much...It's so easy to lay or sit....Hope to see you around the group here...
