i'm good at asking odd questions , so here goes...

what does it do in relation to something like requip? or is it just instead or to supplement sinimet?

i ask because my husband was rx'ed requip for his plmd and after my dad's experience, we opted for me to put up with his moving and jumping repeatedly all night. not a good or safe thing when you are married to a body builder. whap whap whap all night.

i have looking for some type of alternative. quinine did nada.

( i wouldn't mind the other benifits...)

Default requip

I am using it along with 24 mg requip daily with no problem. Sinemet is much more difficult to balance. A little too much and get dyskinetic. I think requip, while an agonist, isn't as problematic as mirapex. Seems like a lot of people have problems with the latter. But start low and titrate up just to be safe.

Default Mucuna and zoloft...NEW MEANING TO "OFF" and "ON"

a popular name for mucuna is rightfully horny goat weed.

at the other extreme i found that zoloft totally kills all carnal interest and function. one suggested zoloft could possibly be the male birth control pill, many agreed that zoloft has a negative effect on libido. however one male zoloft user raved on the positive effect of zoloft on his libido.

my question is what dosage for mucuna ( 350mg 200 for $l2.95) for PD.

amantadine, neupro patches, mirapex, sinemet, stalevo all have had
little or no good or bad results except hallucinations and zero libido.

i switched hypertension and cholesterol drugs to isradipine and zocor as studies found those meds secondary good for PD.

i take 1200 mg coQ10 in ubiquinol form supposed to slow progression, and creatine 5mg. coQ10 and creatine are being studied further in clinical trialls.

some meds produced interesting hallucinations like a play or
movie in technicolor and huge casts of dancing people or parades.

perhaps coQ10 is helpful as my PD is about the same
since 2000.

my thanks to rosebud and all forum contributors for the edification and inspiration
you bring to our plight.

Default just to keep our aphrodisiacs straight

Horny goat weed (of which I have a dozen bottles that don't get along with PD) is a different plant but often is mixed with mucana. As I recall, the effect on my PD was enough that I ruled it out pretty quick. Not a lot of research either. Understandable. Nobody gets tenure for work with "horny goat weed".

Default okay...

heres how the day went. woke at 6 a.m. and took approx 1 millileter (20+) drops. Probably= to 1/8 tsp. I'm just guessing. I dallied in bed till 7 a.m. before I took my reg meds: 2 25/100 s cr and .5 mg of Mirapex. I was up in 20 minutes and it was quite smooth (usually getting going in the a.m. can be a little iffy) No dyskinesia, but a feeling of general well being and good mood and energy level. continued on usual med schedule very smoothly until about 2pm, then I could feel the shift. I was back to the "usual" and prince charming turned back into a toad. Meds were a bit bumpy until 6 pm and I got tired of the whole mess and added 10 drops to about a cup of water. I've been sipping on that and am now a bit dyskinetic. Ate dinner and its now almost 7:30.
This mucuna will probably last me till bedtime around 10:30. I have 2 25/100 S cr left and .5 mirapex. (thats about 4-5 hours of on time translated loosley

Sooo, tomorrow I will start with a lower dose..probably try a water bottle with 10-15 drops and just carry it around. Its tricky to find the balance.

I'll let you know if I develop a burning urge to buy some 4" stilletos

Default Rough Waters

I'm having a really rough time right now and haven't been denying it - this thread is becoming the highlight of the day...lol....and i say good thing!! Negativity is swallowing me up at the very time i need it less - health wise - what a battle and there are losses.

Having said this - what a great post! and right on thread. Not that i would have any experience with mucuna yet - this accompanying benefit appeals to the business slu..s [in honor of George Carlin]er I mean those money grubbers - whomever they may be.

I'd like to see that change - and am truly trying to do it - but must engage the people who can - how to put it - share their brains, talents and integrity. And things needed from other angles. Trust must be created - no one could talk any of you into trusting anything you didn't know about first. And you know I mean it.

So - do you have any other neighbors Rosebud.....??

edited to include davos post, which i thought rick's would include. downright entertaining - great post.

paula

Joy, the vision of you teetering around your neighbourhood in 4 inch stilettos clutching a water bottle containing 15 carefully measured out drops of mucuna tincture in it, priceless!!

Steve: Does your friend in the picture live anywhere near here....looks like a nice guy....

Paula: I'm scoping out the neighbourhood. Will let you know if I find any possible candidtes for "our" project (lets call it "research" to keep it legit).
