To those who are soaking in warm water with epsom salt, do you feel more burning when you soak in warm water?
I ask the question because every night I soak my feet in warm water with epsom salt. However, i noticed that my burning have becomes worse. It happens slowly that i did not even think of the warm water until recently, i took note that after the session, the burning is more pronounced and it will lessen when I apply the magnesium lotion. But the following day, the burning comes back. Could it be the warm water that makes the burning worse? I read from another forum the use of hot alternate with cold water has been reported with success from some patients. I haven't tried it. |

I enjoy a hot epsom salt bath and I have almost given them up because my feet burn. I still take one occasionally in the winter, but I have to keep my feet out of the water the whole time. sucks. Even keeping my feet out of the water the heat raises my body temperature and I can't stay in as long as I would like, I guess just my body temp rising causes my feet to burn.
I have never used epsom for just my feet, I use the lotion. I use 2 cups of epsom, but I have a large jetted tub. I use 1 cup of regular and 1 cup of the lavendar epsom...oohhh that stuff is heaven. Edit to add: I just took a bath this week and even though it does cause my feet to burn, it still helps them. The burn goes away after I get out and put my feet in front of my fan. As soon as they cool the burn stops and the epsom makes them feel good in the long run. It's not the same as a regular flare burn. |

I have to wonder if you have really poor circulation.
When areas of the body warm up from being deprived of blood they tingle and burn. If soaking makes you burn...then I would only use the lotion on your feet. Just do the ankles and tops, you don't need to do the bottoms. You may need to do the lotion twice a day. Heat in any form makes me burn too. But lukewarm does not. Soaking in a hot tub will activate my MP in my right thigh too. So I don't use hot water any more.

Stacey and Beachbum,
I avoid jet tub like a plague, just as I avoid using the showers. The jet tub and showers create aerosols that contain bacteria like the bacteria that infected my lungs. Mary |

I stopped soaking in hot water tonight, just lukewarm water. Well, i guess I have to apply the Epsom lotion 2x a day starting immediately. How can i confirm about the poor circulation, is there a test for this? I thought that going on 2 years with PN next month, I already know how to adjust my psyche in dealing with the pain, but I am wrong. There is still a lot of work to be done and i am not sure if i will ever get "there". Thank you. Mary |

I don't use the jets anymore either.
![]() I use to love soaking in the jet tub all the time, every night after work. I use to use epsom to lower my blood pressure. But now it's only once in awhile. I miss it. My life has changed drastically from last winter to this winter. My husband and I were reflecting on that today. Just a year ago things were so much better. |
