Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking it may be a good idea to add fish oil as a supplement to lower my blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. Does anyone have a recommended amount and brand? Thank you, Cliffman ![]() |

I've worked with many brands over many years...taken it off and on and NOW for the last couple years taking it solid every day. Working on lowering some lipid issues my doc found on lipid panel..fibrinogen and homocysteine. I like RIGHT NOW Jarrow EPA-DHA Balance and take 2 softgels daily. Normally 2 after my late breakfast. No problems and lowering the 2 issues I mention above. C

Fish oil contains repair fatty acids for nerve cell myelin. It works in conjunction with B-complex and B12.
It is also anti-inflammatory, and can lower triglycerides up to 50% in some people. I don't think it is special for lowering glucose, or blood pressure. But it does help the lining of the blood vessels from getting clogged up or inflamed. You'd need at least 3 a day, taken with a meal, in divided doses. Krill oil also works well, and has less GI upset potential, and comes in smaller capsules. One double strength cap a day is enough for most situations. We are using the new Kirkland Krill that just appeared a couple of months ago (Costco). Costco has pretty good prices on MegaRed Krill too. Sometimes Amazon has good prices, but not always though.

The one I have and plan to introduce at some point is this one:
http://www.greenpasture.org/public/P...s/CodLiverOil/ But note this controversy: http://www.thepaleomom.com/2015/09/f...nd-or-foe.html This is the other highly touted one that I would/will try next/also: http://www.corganic.com/evclo/#556f563aed228 |

One of the things with fish oil to be aware of is the source of the fish oil. While in theory, fish oil is anti-inflammatory it can actually have the opposite effect if the source is poor. I have had an inflammatory reaction to a couple of fish oil supplements, including Krill. Clean water fish oil supplements are the key. People who react badly to bottom feeding fish like Shrimp and Crab will experience a similar reaction to a bad fish oil supplement.

I've been studying and thinking hard about healing oils a lot lately.
I've come to the conclusion that it's best to really make a conscious, concerted effort to get them mostly from food first. All kinds of studies show that we absorb omega3s so much better from foods than from fish oil supplements. So I'm making a sincere effort to track and include all kinds of natural omega3 foods, such as wild salmon roe, salmon, sardines, trout, etc. Keep in mind that fish oil is blood thinning, if you are combining large doses with other medications and blood thinning foods. Also reducing omega6s is an important part of the picture. I am also really warming up to hemp oil because it's one of the only nerve healing oils where the omega 3/6/9 ratio matches what the human body needs. Natalie |

This fish oil I am talking about is "fish body oil".... NOT cod liver oil.
I do not recommend cod liver oil...as it is derived from the liver of the fish, where all the toxins are. Fish oil is typically the term used in US for fish body oils. Fish (body) oils do not have Vitamin D or A in them. So they can be taken in increased doses as needed. Cod liver oil contains some EPA and DHA (as in fish body oils), but much less as a rule. The Vitamin A content is the deciding factor on dosing. Usually only one a day is considered safe in regards to Vit A content. This is real Vitamin A (retinol), not betacarotene that comes from plants and vegetables.
