My family...hope you are all well tonight.. my brain actually hurts!! Just when we think we have reached our proper and right path to take for my Mom and her colon cancer... another dr. stops us to say now just keep in mind....her demisha..which she has moderate now, still aware..knows us but forgetful... Can I say to each of you to please..take the time to share with your familys now and speak to your parents if they are still in sound mind to talk about situations like these .. for the life of me I want to carry out my Mom's wishes but can not recall her ever saying what her choice would be...before her demenshia... this would help us kids in what is best to do for her now..One hand..operate..remove the tumor..long run save her from great amounts of pain from the tumor obstruction or not operate ..saving her from the recover process or god forbid..losing her during the surgery, which we have been told can happen..Awful but just a few days ago I was so concerned about my upcoming Drexel visit on 3/15 and the lack insurance denial, (which btw..I placed an appeal to be re-considered)... and my RSD..Now that is not even part of my top ten concerns....

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!!

Love, kathy

Default Hi Kathy,

You and your Mom have been in my thoughts and prayers today and I so hope God helps you make the right decisions. I think he will.

I PM'd you earlier and told you why you were on my mind so much today. I got an email today that made me cry.

We do have to remember to say what we want to to our loved ones. I did last week.

I think the main thing is to remember a loved one the way they were, the smiles, the jokes, the love.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers that God helps lead you and your family through these hard decisions and that your Mom gets through this.

Ada

Dear Kathy,
It's so hard to listen to the different reports from the various doctors..
Is it possible for tall of hem to gather in a conference with you and your brothers to discuss options together so that decisions aren't so fragmented ...
I hope this is possible for you..
Are you able to talk with your Mom and get a sense of what her wishes might be ..
Please try and take care of yourself, too..
Thinking of you

I had a very long appreciative note that disappeared this morning to everyone here..and now I will have to do the readers digest of it..but first..Bobber..thank you for your compliment in that I have much strength..that is so nice to hear and I need it now.. you are such a good guy!! HFTB..you are sweet in thinking of how we can gather out thoughts and do the right thing..no regrets possible and the love for our parents..both Mom's and Dad's is unmeasureable... we have had many talks..my brothers and I and I am the only one local my nearest brother is in Albany NY and then Texas and the one in Arizona...I am the youngest and only girl of our four children.. as far as talking to Mom well she has moderate demensha..so what we say now will not be there in an hour or so but I believe in complete honesty with her except..the C word will scare her so I will nudge it without saying it so not to scare her.. but I will tell her about what is happening... just before it has to be.. Ada.. I got your PM ..you are such a breathe of fresh air...and loved hearing from you...PM me anytime!! So sorry for your news and experience with this stuff also...I have heard about the sudden spread of this.... that makes our decision harder too... but I have to say..We have chose to do the surgery..it is a 2/1 by the Dr.'s but my brothers and I see no other way as her demensha at this time does not stand in the way of her knowing us..sharing a giggle or even splitting a hot fudge sundea at the end to the day..so I am not giving in to her mental status..Due to my pain..everyday all day...I know what it is like, as we all do here and I do not want her to live in awful pain due the obstruction as it gets larger so it must come out before it is too late....AND if..god help us..something terrible happens following or during the surgery...she will be in less pain then..then she will be in a year from now once the tumor grows.... in my heart with all of my heart..., I believe she will be in a much more beautiful place with my Dad..and she will be pain free...!! However.. that will break my heart in two but we have to let god take charge. What a week..

Much love and so many thanks for your support and honesty and love!

Kathy

Dearest Kathy and family, Please know we are all 'here for you' I'm so sorry for your Mom's diagnosis. It sounds like you noticed some liver involvement beforehand. Regardless what they find in the mri, are the Drs. recommending surgery to give her a colonoscopy to prevent blockage?
Even if they decided to not operate, at some point, surgery is usually done because of blockage, to make your Mom more comfortable.
My mother was diagnosed with colon cancer at age of 46. She was given a colonoscopy. After healing, she had another surgery to remove the colonoscopy. In just a few months, the Drs. said it was back. We went to Mexico, which in my opinion was of no help. Then we took her to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She had a painful blockage and ended up having another colonoscopy. She had large amount of liver involvement.
It was after getting her medical records, her first surgery showed there was spread to the liver. The surgeon just didn't tell us, even though he wrote it in his records. He told us they got it all. Had we known, we would have saved her the pain of two more surgeries and the Mexico trip. This was in 1973 and there is much better methods of revealing her condition before surgery.
Does her surgeon recommend a colonoscopy to prevent blockage?
My heart breaks for you and your brothers. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I was blessed with spending 4 months of care and closeness with my Mom. I'll always treasure that time with her. Her faith and dignity was a wonderful example for me. I think of her often in dealing with this painful disorder we all have.
Your friend, loretta with big soft hugs
