I have a question, will neurontin cause weight gain,
Or better yet keep the weight on? I have been on it for 4 years, I also take celebrex. levoxil, for graves desease, Metropolo lisonpril and hydroclorthysde for hbp. Celexa and triliptal for biploar issues. 82% asprin. Prilosec, I use alovera juice, probiotics for colitis, and a fiber tablet, yikes. ![]() I have gained over 60 pounds and can not get it off, even sticking to a 1200 Cal diet. My doc is good about this and said at least I am holding, I am up to 253 pounds. I know this should probably be in the weight control post but I have seen reference to some of of of these drugs causing this. At my Witt's end Lynda ![]() |

I did not have the problem with neurontin, which I took for years at high doses, but I did terrible with lyrica. I believe these medications are somewhat along the same line and do have weight gain issues. I also like you have had a large weight gain almost 70lbs and it has stuck like glue. I took lyrica back in 2006 and lost the weight after I stoppped taking it. It took a long time to take some of the 70lbs off. To be far to that type of medication I am older now, I was 50 in Nov 11, my life has changed completely in the past 9 years with my injury so I find it very hard to keep it off. I do have to keep to a excercise routine or forget I will be the goodyear blimp. So to sum up I think yes the lyrica did comtributed to the weight gain and I believe changed my body somehow. I know longer take lyrica or neurontin and haven't for over 3 years. Good Luck Gabbycakes |

When I started Lyrica, I gained 20 lbs. Over the course of the year I lost half that once I was more active and back to work. Then I was put on neurontin and gained 20 more. I have not been able to lose that yet but I am hopeful that once I return to work that I will be able to get SOME of it off. I have changed my diet and am eating much healthier but it has made no difference in my weight.
I think a bigger issue for those of us with RSD is that many of us just aren't active enough. I am more active now that I was the past year but until I get back to work I won't be at anywhere near the activity level I was at prior to the weight gain. I also think Gabby is right that there may be some fundamental change to our bodies. I never had weight issues before I started taking the Lyrica and I could eat whatever I wanted and never exercise. That certainly has changed...but so has so much in my life because of RSD and I don't know the cause. But I DO know that almost immediately after starting the two different drugs I gained the weight within a couple weeks. And being 30 lbs heavier now than I ever have been in my life has caused a number of other issues for me physically too. |

I've seen other drugs blamed for weight gain as well. Weight gain is a common byproduct of CRPS. But research as to actual clinical proof of medication causing it is slim to non-existent and as they say...."your results may vary". I am on a high dosage of neurontin and I actually I weigh 15 pounds less now than I did before I developed CRPS. |

I have found that the only way to maintain my weight is to eat under 100g of carbs per day, and under 50g I tend to lose weight. I can eat significantly more in calories, so long as it's whole foods.
If you haven't looked at Dr. Hooshmand's 4 F's diet for RSD, it is something to try. I find it's made a major difference in my energy level and stomach pain. I'm also a fan of Marksdailyapple.com which is a Paleo food plan. I've written about it at length previously, but if you'd like more info, please let me know. |

I was on neurontin for awhile and where i did not gain in pounds it made me bloat like crazy but i maintained 250 lbs. now why i mean by bloat. I went from a size 38 waist to a size 44 in a week. now when I stopped taking it i went right back down to 38in.waist. actually went down to 36. but when I started lyrics. wow. I am a size 42 now and I just weighed in at 325. I've only been on lyrica for 6 months. I believe these are different for each person. why not as we are all different so our reactions will be as well. good luck
