My RSD is coming out of remission and a Podiatrist who seems to know about the disorder is going to do a block in each foot. I have had lumbar sympathetic blocks but never this kind. Has anyone had success from this type of block?

I have CRPS in my foot and the only block I know about is the lumbar sympathetic block.
I'd be sure to do some checking around and ask a lot of questions before you agree to it. Post the exact name when you find out what it is. Hopefully somebody here will chime in..... |

I had a novacaine injection or steriod injection into the the ankle by a podiatrist when I was first dx. Not only did it hurt really bad, but after that each step I tried to take sounded and felt like I was walking on those styrofoam peanuts. My pain went past a 10. I don't recommend this at all.

Welcome to Neruo talk. Just from my own view point, I am not sure a block is going to do anything long term to help your RSD. Do you know the name of the medicine he plans to use? I don't think I would go to a podiatrist, even a specialist in foot and ankle problems for RSD. You need a doctor who knows as much as possible about RSD. Someone who has vast knowledge of the condition. I do wish you all the best in what ever your decisions are to get help. I am sorry you came out of remission. Hope you can find the relief you need. ginnie

My MAJOR concern would be spreading the rsd. My doc says no needles in the affected area at all. I would be questioning this like crazy!

That is my concern also. She could make it worse. I know I have smp and lumbar nerve blocks served me well in stabilizing it in the past so I am thinking I should maybe see that Doc again. I am still on neurontin and amitriptiline to maintain things. I am going through physical therapy for bone spurs and my foot is not liking the exercises, in fact my ankle is hurting like I just sprained it in the exact area that started the rsd.

![]() Hang in there.. I was in the same place a few months ago. I was letting a doc talk me into a scs because I was grasping at straws. Fortunately I found this forum before I did it. Also.. check out rsdrx.com. its very informative about different treatments. ![]() |

I had a cyst, which was removed. The podiatrist did put me out. It did come back and this time he did a nerve block. My foot never recovered the PN is terrible, and I am starting a buring sensation. I have torn ligaments, in which surgery is being considered. Now I am thinking this may not be good for me since three incisions are required to correct my walking. what will this do to the PN and increasing symptoms of RSD? I have no idea what to do. does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am afraid if I do this very invasive surgery that this condition will worsen. thank you, ginnie

ginnie,
sorry to hear of your dilemina. I'm not sure how to answer. If it were me I guess I would ask the a beir block be done to reduce the possiblity of complications. It is a surgery that really should be done to prevent further damage to the area.
