To top it off I also have retrocalcaneal lumps in both heels which I have been told this week I will most likely need ops on too. I don't even have medication options any more, because I don't have a supportive pain doctor. My options are live with it or the SCS. If I hadn't explored other options to the full then I could understand the negativity but as it stands it's the only thing I've got to look forward to so I would prefer to keep it that way unless someone wants to pay for Dignitas.

On a side note I had my wheelchair assessment (over the phone?!) and she said there is a 6 month plus waiting list. Joy.
Oh, Kathy,
I'm so sorry I was not aware of all your ordeals, I sure hope I didn't offend you. I hope something happens that you get your wheelchair sooner 6 months seems awfully long!
I had my trial SCS yesterday and so far it feels like an entire sleeve of electrodes vibrating. I think it is a better sensation than the pain. I will post more on that later.

6 months!?!!! I wonder why. There should be plenty of chairs available. What takes 6 months? Forgive me. This just sounds ludicrous. If anything, can't they give you a script so you can go to the pharmacy and pick up one for yourself?

Apologies but this situation stinks.

Kathy if I was close by I would loan you one. I have two. I bought one at a garage sale that gets all gross on beach tips and such lol. I would give you the nicer one of course!

Obviously, that is not feasible, but that's a crazy wait! I waited about 4 days for mine. Of course. I'm a frequent faller, so they figured a wheelchair would be a good place lol.

Hope you can get one sooner. Good luck!!

Hi guys

Firstly - AZ-Di, please accept my apologies for coming on a bit harsh the other day. I hate it when I look back at one of my posts and I've been playing the "Woe is me" card, and I feel awful that I posted in that way. I try really hard not to be like that, but obviously I let that one slip through the net because I'm sore and fed up. You have nothing to apologise for.

On the wheelchair side of things, yeah it's totally frustrating but I suppose it's wrong for me to expect more when you get something for nothing. There are too many benefits to the NHS for me to whinge about waiting times, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't gutted that it will take that long. I've spoken to a few people that have given up waiting and bought one, which is sad really. I can't afford to do that sadly. I've tried freecycle and got a single response and that was from a Nigerian scammer, great lol.

TK you are lovely you know. I'm going to hire one from the Red Cross - they're not anything spesh but it's better than nothing. Sadly you can only rent for 6 weeks. They were also telling me that most of the wheelchairs never come back - not really surprising when the local NHS waiting time is so long but disgusting that a charity is losing out.

As for buying one, if I did manage to raise funds how much would be a reasonable amount to pay and how does someone go about picking the right one when they haven't had an assessment? I was under the impression that I was going to get a comprehensive assessment done in person and instead got asked a couple of questions over the phone, and was really disappointed as it leaves me wondering what to do if I do have to buy one.

Thanks all of you xx

Hm im trying to think Kathy. We live in the US, my little brother is in a wheelchair because he is disabled, and when he just got his last fitting back in Oct. for his new wheelchair, the company came out to the house and did all of his measurements and we then looked over what would be the best wheelchair for him and his needs. So I really think the company should have came out and done the same thing with you, and I would probley call back and ask for them to. For us, we can only get wheelchairs every 4yrs, so its very important to get everything perfect so that way it last. And it also took 6 months for him to get his wheelchair aswell, since it was measured and made for him. But you very much should have been apart of that prosses and looked with the person of which wheelchair is best for you because your gonna wanting comfortable sitting, propper support etc... And its usally a PT (physical therapist) that does the assessment. So please call them back!

Hi tos8
I am wondering if the more in depth side of things will happen when I'm nearer getting one on the waiting list. I will ring and ask though.

I've borrowed one from the Red Cross today. They have said 8 weeks for me which is 2 weeks more than they said when I enquired. There's also a possibility (no promise) that I could re-hire it at the end of the time but I think in all honesty I need a better one. One thing that I think I will need to use the chair as a walker is attendant brakes as this one is very slightly 'runaway', not badly but enough to make me think.

Baz insisted on pushing me home in it to practice in case I ever need help. He was like a kid, I'm surprised I got out alive.
