I updated on the thread about my mom. It isn't good everyone. They think she had a seizure but she is so angry and abusive verbally we are at a loss. :-(

FinLady 04-17-2008 11:06 AM

Sandy, :hug: I saw your update. prayers have been sent for all of you.

Vonn, sometimes the fun outweighs the hurt the next day. Glad you had fun yesterday. :)

TK, hope you enjoy all the family visiting. :)

~~~~
Just sitting here getting ready for work. Emotionally I have been better since I made this decision. Getting ideas in my head of things I can do and become a part of to keep me from being a hermit. :)
Plus I can concentrate on what's really important to me without worrying about all the energy lost at work. I think that's the best part. :)
Vonn07 04-17-2008 02:01 PM
sorry about your mom, Sandy ... it's hard - I can't imagine .. .prayers are with you and your family ...
Yes, Jenn .. it was all worth it ... and I'm feeling so much better about moving out of the tin-condo and having a nice place to breathe...
*** update ***
finally was able to get into my storage unit ... alot of cr*p to go thru and sort tho ... not bad .. just a pain ... but my girls made it okay - can't wait to set them up in their new pad!!
see - I can't have a dog or cat .. so, I have mannequins ... one is Roxanne and the other is Kathleen (Roxy & Kat) ... and really bring 'class' anywhere they are!! I can dress them in cool clothes ... like playing with dolls, but only life-size ... have I lost my mind, you ask?? nah - been that way a long time, now I have a dx to rely on! hee hee
tkrik 04-17-2008 03:13 PM
Vonn - You're playing with life-size Barbies. LOL. I am glad you were able to get to the storage unit. Hopefully the weather will become warmer so that you can have a storage unit sale.:D
Fin - No you don't want to become a hermit. Finding something that will work for you and that you are interested in is 1/2 the battle. I seriously try and do get out at least once a day. I would go nuts staying home all day. This exacerbation is coming to an end (or I am hoping). But while I was down it drove me crazy!
weegot5kiz 04-17-2008 03:28 PM
Sandy, I am sorry to hear of the set back, with mom, as you know yourself, jim and your Mother are deep in debs and my prayers and thoughts., any chance its an infection from the surgery? or inflamation, that may be causing undo pressure on her brain?, we have one kid who has fever related seizures, and that was my first thought, fever related, hang in there sandy,
Vonn glad you are doing better that white stuff melting up north yet?
everyone else i hope your day has gone well and your evening also goes well too
Fin hang in there it was a rough decision for me jan of 2007, it pained me and worried me, i was 45 and had been working since i was 13 - 14 age, full time since i was 16 so it was a huge change, lately been thinking of something i can do from the home for employement was gonna check into medical transcripting, just a thought as far as to keep from going bonkers,
peace
Vonn07 04-17-2008 03:34 PM
Tricia .. these 'girls' are anatomically correct too ... makes me look like the odd-duck ... after I get moved and settled down - I'll get a pix of the 3 of us to share! LOL
I too have to get out of here every so often ... and at times, I feel like I run around in circles inside when I can't get out - or it's TOO cold outside!
glad that I made everyone giggle today ... that's my goal ... and I'm happy!
well, yesterday is still working on me - already pooped out .. and I haven't done much ...
in my last week of classes - finals start this week ... should get As in both this time .. but all depends on the final exam ... LOL
Frank ... yes - most of the white stuff is either evaporated or in the creek! but our lake (white potato lake) ... hasn't 'pulled out' yet .. but it's melted in the middle!
barb02 04-18-2008 02:13 AM
Hi everyone! Well it is two o'clock in the morning here, and I cannot sleep so I thought I would get the computer for awhile. I have to get up at 5 so I really should be in bed. So if there are alot if mistakes here blame it on the ambien.;) I have been doing ok this week, but the hug has been really bothering my ribs and back.
I went to a book reading yesterday by Lee Martin. He is an alumni of my university and he was reading from his new novel. I have read one of his previous books (they are fiction), the Bright Forever, and thought it was good. It is set in a small town in Indiana. It is a murder mystery. His newest book is is in southern Illinois.
Sandy -- I hope you all can figure out the situation with your month. It sounds as if she could use an anti anxiety med or something too.
Vonn -- Good luck with your finals. What kind of degree are you working on?
Fiin -- I think you will want to find something to do -- volunteering or hobbies. Otherwise, if you have always worked you may get bored or lonely.
TK -- Hi! I leave at 5:45 fpr my drive to St. Louis. It should be interesting. I have never actually seen a ms specialist. They sent me a 6 page questionaire to fill out for my appointment. I will try to let you know how it went tomorrow. Since it is just viewed as a consultation, I am not sure what to expect.
Frank, Sarah, Kay and anyone else I missed -- :Wave-Hello:
Hope everyone is sound asleep. I am goint to try to go back to bed.
its 3 am and i cant sleep:trampoline:
barb hope you were able to get some rest :Yawn:b4 5 am strikes
vonn glad to hear its melting up north, and am glad to see ya posting again:hug:
:Ponder:curious if i could ask something that may come out wrong, but such is life
I come from a big Irish family and have cousins and such all over the country, problem is every time someone comes into Chicago area the family still around here has a wing ding and I have to come I almost feel like some side show freak, my god do they think i am gonna die by next Monday or am I being over sensitive about the whole MS deer in the headlight looks i get from family? can anyone else relate, and I don't mean to take family for granted, I understand I should be, and I am, grateful for family friends and the love they have for me, its just, I don't know almost like everyone wants to make sure they see me or say bye b4 i get worse or as far as I can tell they all think ms is a death sentence, well like I said this may not sound cool or right but its 3 something in the morning, and cant sleep so thought ide annoy y'all with that query:Trapeze 2:
hope everyones day is a splendid one:Head-Spin:
FinLady 04-18-2008 07:46 AM
Frank, can totally relate on the family thing. :hug: My brother is usually a laid back sort of person. But for the past two years, Christmas time has become an ultimatium - Either go there or he's packing his family and coming here!
He doesn't usually do that sort of thing. I know it comes from his love and worry about me. The whole "big brother watching out for little sis" mentality.:rolleyes:
Barb, Sorry to hear the hug was keeping you awake last night. Hope you got some rest. :hug:
~~~~~~~~

Good morning all. Back with my usual morning cup of coffee.

There was a small shake early this morning here in central ohio. found out it was an earthquake centered in Illinois. Hoping and praying all our midwest buddies are ok. Hope Sandy checks in later today.

Got some stuff done in the yard last night. LOL, I was getting tired of the "wait a minute" plants being overgrown. Those are the ones that have thorns that grab your clothes and make you wait a minute as you untangle yourself.

tkrik 04-18-2008 09:27 AM

Vonn - I'd love to see the pics. What a hoot that would be. Please post some when you get a chance. Good luck on your finals! You'll do fine.

Barb - Wishing you the best of luck today! I am sorry the hug kept you up last night. I can totally related to that. Please let us know how it went today at the MS clinic.

Frank - You may feel different about all of this now that it is not 3 a.m. LOL. I am fortunate that my family is not that way. The giggle with me at my blunders - cog stuff. The physical stuff - I just see concern. No one really says a lot. My one sister and I laugh at some of the stupid things I do, like forgetting where I was sitting at the table or asking the same question twice, etc. Besides, us Irish do have good senses of humor. You can help your family by getting them to laugh about some of this, the funnier parts.

Fin - That is so sweet of your brother. You are fortunate to have that. (You too Frank). I heard about the quake also. YIKES! An earthquake is the only natural "disaster" type thing I have not been through. Oh, wait a minute, I get that vertigo that makes it seem like the earth is moving underneath me. LOL.

Hi everyone else! Hope you are doing well.

~~~
Follow up neuro appt today. Keeping my fingers crossed I am healing up just fine.
Hope everyone has a nice day and all you midwesterns are save and sound.
SandyC 04-18-2008 10:04 AM
I'm good, didn't even feel the earthquake. I woke up to the news telling me about it. Thanks for asking. Frank, did you feel it?
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 10:56 AM
well that explains the fan in the window falling out last night and the cats acting weirder than normally, and yes it was around 430 am when this happened, i jumped debs tail feathers asking her what is her problem with the fan lol oops gots to go say sorry now brb, ok back this is odd even my one son said he heard some loud noises last night and got up to see what the cats had done, he said the two cats in his room were walking around the one in our room stood up on all four and meowed loudly, didnt feel any shaking other than the fan and something in kitchen fell too at same time. ok we found what made that loud noise I have a broken door on the shed in place just the hinges need to be reset, well my son just told me its on the ground too. whoa freaky:eek:
well how yall doing lol
good luck on appt TK
finn barb sandy and Jim vonn sharon and sarah I hope all is well with you
you all know illinois has a major fault in it,(besides being flat) down at madrid, its one of the bigger faults in the country, so as odd as it may seemed, earthquake in illinois is not unheard of
well anyone else got the song shaking all over stuck in their heads now ?
hope you all have a wonderful friday, pretty sure its friday
thanks for answering T and Finn I just get the feeling I am on display by pt barnum sometimes, i mean if I didnt have MS would they go so far out of way, sorry if i seem ungrateful, its just a part of ms i need to adjust to I guess,
shake rattle and roll:yikes:
FinLady 04-18-2008 11:04 AM
Sandy & Jim and Frank, glad you guys are ok and it only shook the area up a little.
Frank, sorry my cog fog made me forget you were in Il. too. lol. DOH! if I had read you location I would've known. :Doh:
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 11:06 AM
just read your post on the copaxone Finn, now am wondering, if this could be the cause of my sleep issues, I didnt know about it could cause insomnia, must of misssed that side effect, and its one I would concern myself with seeing I already have insomnia, without the help of meds,
going to switch to days and see what happens at night, thank you thank you thank you, wouldnt that be great if thats what keeping me up:holysheep:
FinLady 04-18-2008 11:09 AM
Frank, didn't know it could cause that either, but read about a few others having problems too and that they switched to the morning. I was thinking to myself one day - maybe that was my problem.
I still have trouble getting to sleep at night, but I've always been that way. I do sleep deeper now that I switched to the morning. Hope it works out for you too. :hug:
SandyC 04-18-2008 11:09 AM
Wow Frank, that's cool that you felt it. They just announced a second one at 10:10am shook and channel 2 news felt it. I didn't once again...lol
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 11:17 AM
:)not exactly sure how cool it is to feel an earthquake, but if this is gonna keep up i might as well move out to california,
its hard to tell if we had an after shock they are working across the street digging up the road, so at present time we are having after shocks from the workers :grins:
SandyC 04-18-2008 11:20 AM
That's true Frank. I always wanted to live in Cali but I have nightmares of the big one hitting and one of two things happening. One, Cali breaks off and we are floating in our own land boat. Or two, the earth opening up and me falling through. I know both scenerios are absolute nonsense but I can't help my mind. lol
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 11:36 AM
you kill me lol
those are a couple reasons I never wanted to move there either, does the song I am an island by simon and garfunkle come to mind lol
my bro is out there he says it gets a bit weird with the shaking he has expierenced a couple bad ones in san fran area
barb02 04-18-2008 04:15 PM
Pratically got shook out of my bed at 4:35 by the quake. Scared the ******out of me. I did not know what it was. A few of my pics on the walls are tilted. We have had a few aftershocks also. Felt one while in St. Louis. Heard they closed down one of the bridges there because of concrete falling. Appt went ok. Basically they do not know what to do with me. Suggested a few oral meds as a possibility and gave me some free provigil to try. Will post more later. I am exhausted!!!
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 04:53 PM
glad your appt went well barb and glad you are ok from the quake.
I use provogil it works pretty good for me as far as fatigue goes, I take 100 mg twice a day instead of 200 at once, because i get a bad burn out on it, taking 200 mg at once, so i take one real early and then other around 11 ish, hope it helps and works for you
still humming shake rattle and roll, seems to be theme song for today,
tk how your appt go? well I hope
Renee how you doing hows hubby doing?
everyone else Finn Vonn Sandy Jim Sarah Sharon, I do believe I remembered everyones name finally, have a nice evening, and good weekend
SandyC 04-18-2008 04:55 PM
Frank, you hear that song...I hear "I feel the earth move under my feet" lol
not nonsense at all, honey!
the San Andreas fault is mostly along the coast, so it's just a SLIVER of Calif. coast that could actually break off, if there was a really *bad* quake.
it could fracture along a series of faults that lie along the place where the oceanic and continental tectonic plates meet... or at least, that's how my mom explained it to me.
I lived in California for 47 years, and my mother's Geology studies specialized in earthquakes.
been through quite a few, but not ever close to the epicenter of a BIG one, thankfully.
my solution to the fears of Calif breaking off was to move WAY up to the mountains, lol, beyond the reach of coastal quakes.
after the '89 Loma Prieta quake, (which we FELT, all the way up near Yosemite, a 3-hour drive east!!!) we couldn't reach family and friends in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Oakland... for many many scary hours.
on the earth swallowing you up, two things, first, that's the plot for one of L. Frank Baum's Oz stories - see page three:
http://www.pagebypagebooks.com/L_Fra...hquake_p1.html
read those stories as a small child, and whooooooo-eeeeee MAMA, that scared ME !!
gave me nightmares, really!
second, my mother had large photographs on our walls of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and there was one of Point Reyes... with a newspaper headline that certainly didn't help the nightmare factory!
apparently, so the story went, a COW got swallowed up when the earth cracked, shifted, and then closed.
our family went on a trip to visit The Earthquake Trail at Point Reyes:
The Story of the Fallen Cow
Signs along the trail at Point Reyes also explain the legend of Matilda the cow, who was supposedly swallowed by the crack that opened up in the earth. After the quake caused ferocious fires 35 miles away in San Francisco, it took a few days for reporters to find their way to the sleepy hamlet of Olema. When they arrived, they were led to a gaping hole where Matilda lay upside down.
It was a good story, with headlines shouting, "Fault swallows cow whole." However, locals whispered that a farm boy was having fun with reporters from the big city. It seems that Matilda had died of natural causes and the hole seemed a convenient place to bury her.
http://www.seed.slb.com/en/scictr/wa...y/pt_reyes.htm
that was my first brush with an "Urban Myth"...
it's a good story, but... it ain't true!
:D
weegot5kiz 04-18-2008 10:32 PM
I feel bad I thought I did good with the names, hello cayo hope all is well with you, my apologies for forgetting, I almost got it down.
Curious if anyone else thought about the earthquakes and the near by big cities? How many of these buildings are erected with earthquake measures taken in mind, granted the madrid fault is a big one, and I would assume that its an automatic in building the taller buildings, like it is out west where my bro is, but I got a feeling not.
the older ones here in chicago are not, a lot of them were erected b4 these measures were about. just did some useless thinking today and thought about the buildings in the major cities des moines indy cincinnati chicago st louis, makes u wonder or least it did for me
I know the soil base we build on has a lot to do with the quakes intensity, I also know a 6.4 only one point higher than todays, is i believe 10 times stronger, not sure on that number and how it magnifies itself as it increases, but my bro was in san hose in 89 his store collapsed he was manager of, no serious injuries, and that was his first major one, he experienced, woke his kiester up quick, he has not taken them for granted since,
and from what i have read in history classes and books the madrid one in the 1800 was strong enough to send the miss river back north for 3 days swallowed a few towns lakes vanished, had sand geysers. guess you forget about it being in the "farm land", but it doesnt matter where you are we are all vulnerable to mother earth
I also noticed there are a lot from illinois on here and the midwest also, had not realized it till today
glad all is well with everyone on here and hope you all have a wonderful saturday
peace
yep, you're absolutely right Frank, the Richter Scale is logarithmic, so, go up ONE number, and it's TEN times stronger.
The Richter Scale:
http://www.matter.org.uk/Schools/Con...hterscale.html
my daughter goes to San Jose State University, and I try not to worry.
and yes, the *soil* type matters.
the SF Marina district was built on bay-fill, compacted mud.
and those are the buildings that fell down, as the mud behaved like Santa's BELLY, that shook when he laughed, like a bowl-full of JELLY
:eek::p:eek:
it's called liquefaction:
Although the effects of liquefaction have been long understood, it was more thoroughly brought to the attention of engineers and seismologists in the 1964 Niigata, Japan and Alaska earthquakes. It was also a major factor in the destruction in San Francisco's Marina District during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soil_liquefaction
oh, and yeah, I'm okay today... busy, busy, busy!!
three pregnant guineas, a preggers sow, and goats making happy-happy!
big day today, monthly journey over-land and take the hand-cranked ferry, to get sacks of feed... came home, fed everyone, stripped the bed, and did laundry.
argh!
the second sprained ankle this month, still swollen and throbbing, but I'm wearing my AFO's religiously, and walking more carefully.
and I definitely used the brand-spanking-NEW motorized cart at the grocery store.
I do believe it may be the ONLY one of it's kind in Belize, so I make SURE to effusively THANK the store owners (Mennonites) for providing it... and tell them, the longer I can SHOP, the more $$ they get from me!
:D:rolleyes::D
so tired now, the bed's only HALF-made, gotta go STEEL myself to finish it.
maybe I can talk hubby into helping?
:hug:
weegot5kiz 04-19-2008 10:12 AM
:Wave-Hello: good morning all
cayo i hope your ankle feels better soon,sounds like you had a very busy day
NaeNae 04-19-2008 10:25 AM
Hey everyone...I have been incognito for a few days just spending time with my mom before she flies home today. Hubby is on the road to recovery...had my second Tysabri with no side effects this time except the after infusion four hour nap! I didn't read all the posts I missed will try to later could only pop on for a few minutes before I take my mom to the airport. Hope everyone is well...I have been talking to Sandy on the phone to keep updated about her mom....need to call her later!
SandyC 04-19-2008 11:15 AM
Hey everyone! Laundry and junk mail organizing today, yippie!
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I don't have any updates on my mom. She is still angry but not as bad. Ill have more to update on Monday after her appointment with the neurologist.
CayoKay 04-19-2008 11:45 AM
San, reading your story makes me grateful that after my mom's massive stroke, she was very grateful for our help, and never became angry or upset.
it's hard enough to be a caregiver (or a relative), when the person needing care is friendly and happy.
it would be a *nightmare* if the care-receiver is hostile or yelling.
Sandy, my heart goes out to you, and my prayers are in for your mom's health.
Frank: since this is a "G" rated board, I tried to find a NICE way to describe the, er, um, activities occurring in the goat-acre.
so, how many TIMES did ya manage to use the code-phrase "happy-happy" yesterday?
:D:p:D
PS: tell Chuckie to go #@*ie himself for me, ok?
NaeNae: so happy to hear your Ty went well, and your hubby's on the mend...
sorry I haven't done any Wok-Woks for Olivia in a few days...
I am barely managing to keep the KAY-SHIP on an even keel... everything's so darn DIFFICULT with the NEW sprained ankle on the left, and the recovering one on the right... (whine, whine)
barb: hope you're feeling less TIRED today!
love and :hug: to all my friends here at the Insights Thread... y'all help me to get through my days, and bring me friendship, comfort, entertainment, and joy.
FinLady 04-19-2008 01:04 PM
Hi all :) A little late for me today, lol. Went to a class this morning and just got back.
I went to a beginner's class on skeet and trap. OMG, I had a great time!!!! :trampoline: Now if my arms can recover from it, I'll be in great shape.
Glad I did it this morning. Looks like we're gonna get some thunderstorms in my neck of the woods, cuz it is getting dark out there.
~~~~~~~

Kay, :hug: Thanks hun. I agree with you. If I'm not online, I usually stop by this thread at least once and get the lift to help me plow on.

Sandy, Hope you have a good weekend too. :hug:

Renee, glad you had some time with your mom. It's great to hear your infusion went ok and that hubby is improving. :)

Frank, I'll pack Chucky's bags for you. Such an unwanted visitor. Sorry to hear it's back. :hug:

barb02 04-19-2008 08:14 PM

It has been a quiet day for me. I am still recovering from my trip to St. Louis to the ms center and thinking about my appointment.

I am going to wait until I can talk to my neuro before I start taking the provigil. I do not really want to start out taking 200 mg at one time. (That is the dose they gave me.) I also want to make sure my neuro is willing to prescribe it before I start taking it. I also am going to wait until after my vacation in 2 weeks to Myrtle Beach before I make any decisions on treatment. They are recommending to my neuro that I go on anti rejection drug that is used for transplant recipients. It also suppresses the immune system.

Frank -- I am sorry about your unwanted guest.

Sandy -- I hope your mother can come to eventually understand that you and your family are trying to help her. But in a way I guess I can understand her anger. He life as she knows it is changing dramatically -- just like when someone is dx with ms or some other disease. I am sure she is also scared. Sometimes when we are angry or afraid we lash out at those to whom we are closest. It doesn't make sense, but yet it happens.

fin -- sounds like you have found a new hobby.

Renee - I am happy that your 2nd infusion went well.

TK -- HI!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It is supposed to be nice here tomorrow. :D

FinLady 04-20-2008 10:22 AM

Good morning all. :) Still recovering from yesterday, LOL. Just got a few things to do around the house today.

Hope everyone has a good day. :grouphug:

SandyC 04-20-2008 10:31 AM

Frank, could you send a copy to the "pay to play" program too? LOL, the sun is coming out, but yesterday has made me a slug. :)

weegot5kiz 04-20-2008 10:59 AM

Sandy I was having fun it was nice of you to visit the game area, I saw your post earlier in the bad habits and debated posting on it, i stay out of that one cause those girls can be down right nasty lol in a good way. I did enjoy myself like I said chukie was at bay and i felt pretty good. but the little poindexter is back again and not being nice today am about to go back to a dark room joy joy

Fin you over did it again, lol stubburn, one you are, as am I thats why its gnawing at me so bad, to get outside and do something. in all seriousness you do have to work on the pace thing like i do, i know you you know so its pointless of me saying it but you got to be careful and take care of yourself, now if i only listen to my own advice:thud:

FinLady 04-21-2008 07:40 AM

Good mornng all. Hoping everyone is doing ok today. :grouphug:

Should be an interesting day today. The sun is shining, the cats are at the windows with their tails wagging at the birds they wish they could get. Spring is definitely here. :)

Boss is on a trip this week, so I'm in charge. Watch out for the stubborn one! :D
