FinLady 08-16-2008 02:01 PM

Howdy Hi and good afternoon :)

Been a quiet day so far in my neck of the woods. Hubby's taking me to the art store later. I'm so glad he's being supportive of me in this. :Excited: Keeps me sane.

LOL, a new electronic gremlin has shown up. Been having issues downloading pics to NT :(, but you can find them at the website in my "about me" profile if you are interested in seeing the current paintings. (hope I can say that :Dunno:)

~~~~~~~
TK, :hug: Yep those memories creep up at us, and sometimes when we're not expecting them. Always bittersweet when it happens. :hug:
NaeNae 08-16-2008 02:13 PM
BTW can we make Mojito mixing/drinking an olympic sport???
SandyC 08-16-2008 02:16 PM
Only if I can jump on the trampoline!
Good afternoon everybody!! :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Hugs and love and freedom from pain and worries to each of you... :circlelove:
My update:
I've had the past week off work, but working at home for my vacation. I painted our front entryway and three bathrooms. I had to strip wallpaper borders from two baths, and cover a dark grey painted-on border in the third. I will never ever put up wallpaper again if it's a house I plan to stay in. It took two days just to deal with that! :eek: Then I had to repair and put on a primer coat before painting.
I used this blue masking painter's tape. The cat was peeling it off and eating it. He'd eat a strip, cough and gag, then eat some more! :Crazy 2: He "helped me" all week long! :rolleyes:
Anyway, I finally finished painting, at 3:30am this morning. :eek:
So I'm worn out, paint-spattered and sore, but I got 'er dun. :D Now I have to clean house and do laundry so I can return to work on Monday.
Now everything else looks old and yucky next to the painted walls. I suppose this will have a domino effect?
Happy weekend everybody. I need a nap.
He likes tape too and presents.
weegot5kiz 08-16-2008 03:13 PM
FinLady 08-16-2008 06:24 PM
W00T! NT pic problems fixed. So albulm has new ones.
Sandy, LOL. Don't you love the weird little noises they make? my kitty has this chirpy type noise she makes when she wants to be pet. It is so cute.
Frank, don't know what it is about tape or plastic, but you are so right that the kitties can't seem to get enough of it :)
DD18's feral cat rarely makes vocal type noises. It is so strange. It does purr though. It makes tons of noise running around the house and knocking things down though.:mad:
SandyC 08-16-2008 06:41 PM
Jenn, it is hillarious! Last night Rick saw a lake bug on my screen and talked to it from the floor. Then he jumped on the hot tub and made his way around to the window, all the while talking. Even after he scared it off the screen he kept talking to it. lol Your description is better than mine. It is like a chirp!
Non related to cats, who's that in your avatar? :-)
Jim poopied out on me today and we stayed home. He did have a small temp and his throat is sore from the sinus infection. So, I took the dog for a walk and chilled.
We just got back from getting a par baked pizza from Uncle Milty's and yummers from the Yum Yum Shop. Jim got a strawberry shortcake yummer and I got a heath yummer. They are kind of like the Dairy Queen blizzards.
As soon as the pizza is done we'll watch Shutter. Oh man, it looks scary!!!
Hugs to everyone for making Jim feel so special today! I showed him all the birthday wishes and he was grinning from ear to ear. :grouphug:
That is little ol' me on the laptop with the two kitties, one on either side. Was taken on one of my bad days, LOL. They decide it's their job to be close by during those times. :)
Fin - that is so sweet!!!
I'm just hanging out this afternoon. DD16 is SICK!!! Yikes! School started last Monday and into the germ pool she went. She's been sleeping on and off all day - sore throat, stuffy nose, feverish. UGH!!! She didn't need this.
She bailed out on helping her dance teams fundraiser today. We did bring down the muffins that I made this a.m. for it. That was the highlight of the day. LOL
Anyhow, it's been a mellow, quiet day around here. Actually, it's been pretty boring around here today. Hoping to get to DBF's a little later and hang out for a while.
CayoKay 08-16-2008 07:14 PM
hi, y'all.
just lettin' you know I'm still alive.
back to "borrowing" mi esposo's computer for a bit, the laptop Toshiba's hard drive melted down on me, alas.
and I've been sick with some evil intestinal bug, so resting a lot, and doing the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast, recommended by my nurse-pal).
am recovering, but still feeling weak, and carppy...
happy BD to Jim !! :)
and Sandy, I hope he's getting his leggus erectus syndromus under controllus. :eek:
Vonny-baybee, keep on truckin' and mum's the word, eh? :cool:
BARB !! where ARE you? we miss you !! :winky:
Trish, how's the bureaucratic paper-chase going? and how is your DD doing? ;)
hi, Wiz, and soxmom, good to see you! :)
NaeNae, how's the job-search going? and how's lovely little Olivia? :p
Finny, pass me a margarita, please, dear! I want to virtually waste away again, :D
Doody, I'm puffin' on a Magic Dragon, :p
:grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug::grouphug::hug::grou phug:
SandyC 08-16-2008 07:15 PM
Jenn, that is so sweet! Pets really do know don't they? And I think it's a good picture and was hoping it was you. I imagined you were writing to tell us about your day. :-)
Trish, I am so sorry your daughter is ill. She sounds like she has what Jim has. He's been on augmentin since Tuesday and his throat is still sore. Hope she's better by Monday!
FinLady 08-16-2008 07:16 PM
Trish, Sorry to hear about DD :hug: Hope she gets over this bug soon.
SandyC 08-16-2008 07:18 PM
Kay, awww the stomach thing is the worse! Did you eat too many brownies? Sending healing thoughts your way. :hug:
Sorry to hear you've got a bug :( :hug:
That's a great recommendation by your nurse pal. Have you ever tried peppermint tea for tummy and intestinal issues? It can be a coin flip, I'll admit, but sometimes it helps me out.
Feel better soon. :hug:
weegot5kiz 08-16-2008 07:21 PM
hello Kay how you been, hopefully doing well
Reminds me, Mrs. D posted in Pet Forum and she's been sick too! And they have to use an outhouse at their summer retreat and it stormed all night while she had to run and back and forth.
nope, nary a one...
they're baked, and tempting, but I don't dare...
I'm very careful, and brush my teeth with bottled water, and wash my hands all the time, but my contractor was out for 2 days with the runs, and dropped by, and I served limonade, and washed the glasses afterwards, so that's probably where I picked up the bug.
thanks for the well-wishes kiddies, and SORRY I forgot you, Frank... my brain, well, it's melted down in this heat and humidity, and trying to hurry, so hubby can have his 'puter back.
weegot5kiz 08-16-2008 07:40 PM
you didnt forget me:Bang-Head:, I saw your post after i asked if you were doing well, sorry you are sick, hopefully you get to feeling well soon:hug:
SandyC 08-16-2008 08:36 PM
You guys should see my new easel!!!!! It's way taller than me and I can paint up to 7 feet tall! He went way out on this thing. I will take pics when they bring it over. Thank goodness he made it so it reclines so i can get it through the door! :yikes:
I already have two orders. One for Jim and one for the contractor. I can't charge either of them because well, Jim is the hubby and Roger, the contractor isn't charging me for the easel at all! Talk about neighborly love eh? I have always had trouble asking for money for something I love to do. That's my payment, doing what I love and making others happy doing it. WOOT WOOT!
FinLady 08-16-2008 08:39 PM
Sandy, too cool!!! It was great of him to make one for ya. Hope you enjoy it. :cool:
Just because one can do something like a hobby or what not doesn't mean one can commit to a full or part time job. I was one of those who did suggest mums the word about the corp because SS could see that as an ability to work. I agree on that.
It was just my opinion and Carolina there is no reason to get so upset that you want to go away. Don't go away because of this. I just think when we start to question each other or one's medical caretakers on our ability to work or what not it creates hurt feelings and aggression. It's stressful enough to have to stop work. I know, my mom just lost her job and was denied SSDI but was able to pick up widows pension. It's nowhere near her full salary she used to make and is now in income based housing. Believe me that she wants to work but can't and it kills her. Honestly, we really don't know each other well enough to even be talking about whether one can work or not. :(I am not going to comment anymore on this as it is only creating tension and I am too blessed to be stressed. :hug: everyone!
Sandy, no matter how many times you say it, it does not make it true.
1. I was trying to support Vonn. That is why I was asking the questions.
2. I am not questioning anyone's ability to work. I was merely asking if she could work part-time which, depending on the answer, would haved informed her of the different programs such as the Ticket to Work which I believe Trish brought up.
3. I agree that one can pursue a hobby but not be able to do it to the extent of "work". Most ALJs cannot. We lost two cases because of that.
4. I am not questioning anyone's doctor as far as their expertise. I merely wanted to know the reasons he felt she could not work. There is a BIG difference between the two.
5. I don't feel you can speak as to how well any of us knows the other. And again, I was not forming an opinion as to whether or not anyone should or could be working.
6. I would not be commenting anymore on it either if you would quit putting words in my mouth and if you had any respect for the knowledge I have gained through my career. I would never tell you about graphic design as I know nothing about it. I would never tell Frank what's it like to work for the postal service or question Nae Nae's expertise about nursing or pretend to tell Tom about NASA but yet you will tell me that I am wrong about Social Security Disability law with no basis of fact behind you. I find that very insulting.
Unfortunately for some, I did not say I was going away. I said I was done. I am done giving advice about something that I have extensive knowledge about. Hence, my reason for sticking to the pollyanna threads.
Sandy, you act as though I don't know what it is like to have a chronic illness. Have you forgotten I have MS too? And that right now, my MS is the least of my medical problems? That is how bad it is for me. I DO know what it is like for I am one of them!
Vonn - I am very sorry if this has added even more stress to your life. I know you understood my intentions.
For those of you who had kind words of support, I thank from the bottom of my heart. It meant more to me than you know. :hug:
Vonn07 08-17-2008 07:32 AM
good morning ... I haven't been on since friday and just read 6 pages of posts .. .btw::
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIM!!
sorry about everything ... I have no family to lean on, just friends - but they don't understand the whole MS thing ... and neither do I ... especially on good days ...
I was just trying to do something good for others with the quilting ... my doctor (PCP) knew what a crazy-go-getter person I was before I was dx'd ... and she knows it's hard for me - but, the daily routine "job" isn't for me ... I've asked to learn about Vocational Rehab ... to do something different than what I was ... but, again - I'm 'on a list' with their program until funding is available ... so, I have to do something while I'm waiting before I lose my mind! :Crazy 2: .. oh, that's right - it's already gone! LOL
sorry about all this ..
Kitty 08-17-2008 08:03 AM
Kitty 08-17-2008 09:21 AM
I have absolutely nothing going on today.
I'm going to relax (from what I don't know!! :p), read the paper, clip coupons, look at all the sale flyers and lust over all the things I can't have (really, tho, I'm not complaining.....well, maybe just a little...:o).
I hope Kevin will wash my car today....the birds seem to have this "fly by & poop at the same time" thing going on and they all seem to aim for my car!! :eek: I had thought at one time that I would sell it but I think I'm going to hang onto it for as long as I can. It's not leased - and I will own it in 46 more payments!! :rolleyes:
CayoKay 08-17-2008 09:23 AM
mornin' Frank.
today's a Pluck-a-Duck day.
a big pot of water is just starting to boil, and my husband just went out to do the dirty deed.
we're talkin' a TURKEY-sized drake here... but he HAS to go, as he's rude, thoughtless, and unkind to my ducks on nests.
and now, I finally GRASP the concept of a "sitting duck"
see, she's STUCK there on her eggs, and can't defend herself without risking all her work (35 days on the nest, amazing!)
I have designed all my nestboxes to not allow the entry of the large drakes, but this duck was stubborn, and built herself a lovely nest of roots, twigs, leaves, and feathers under a mango tree by the pond.
I put up a little shelter for her, made of palm fronds, tied to a frame of branches... but the drake knocked it down and was assaulting my poor duck mama...
so, I CAUGHT the *&#$%*& barehanded, mid-crime, and stuffed him in an empty cage.
and now, the plucking begins.
Thanks, Frank. We're supposed to get some much needed rain from it on Thursday/Friday. But, things may change before then. I hope the folks in Florida are ready. I'm going to call Joelle tomorrow morning and see if they're okay. I think she said they've been through one hurricane since they've been down there.
I just hope and pray everyone gets their pets inside where it's safe before the storm hits.
