Awww, that is a good sign! But how heartbreaking...DD probably thought it was a good thing she was doing. Hopefully she will think of everything next time, or if not, that she will listed to her sister.

That is a very good sign. Looks like the kitten is bonding. Leaving the bathroom is a huge step for the baby.

Who plays with the kitten? What kind of toys has your DD bought?

Kitten still likes to be in hiding. It spend all day yesterday under/behind the couch. It thinks we can't see it, but we can. Our couch is leather and a little higher up than normal - this way I am able to vacuum under it without moving it all the time.

So far every morning it crys and crys.:( I did get it to play with a string. Well, actually, it is a piece of pink leather from one of my wedge sandals I can't wear. LOL.

It doesn't like it when we talk.:eek: LOL. This is a house of girls, there will be talking and laughing so the little guy/gal needs to get used to that. Unless of course it is a female and is talking right along with us. LOL.

That would just break my heart and I think I'd probably be crying too!

I agree that sounds good. I can't imagine it'll take much longer now before it loses it's fear and learns to trust you fully. Look at the size of this cute little kitty! :D

Congratulations on your new baby, what a cutie. I have worked with feral cats and done TNR (trap neuter release) for years. For many of them there is a window of opportunity and since this little one wants to be with you that is a great sign. Here are some pointers I can offer based on been there, done that, lol.

Your baby needs to be confined and the bathroom sounds like a great place. Take him out only when someone can be there with him and then put him back. It will be a safe place for him. He needs to know where his litter box is and getting lost in a large area when he needs to go potty is setting him up for failure. If he becomes too accustomed to doing his own thing independently it will be harder to fully domesticate him.

Handle him as much as possible. Pick him up, fiddle with his paws, ears, tail etc. The best bit of advice I can give you in addition to keeping him confined is that I really wouldn't free feed him because having him rely on you to feed him and sitting with him while he eats will increase your bond.

I know you want DD to take responsibility but please help her since this is her first time doing this sort of thing and the better it is handled from the beginning the better chances of success.

Jules - Thanks. What awesome advice. We have been petting and holding as well as getting it to engage in play. It had a great time this afternoon playing with that string. As for DD18, we actually sat down this afternoon and researched the internet for rescuing and caring for feral kittens. We learned a lot - some things I knew and some I didn't.

We made an appoint for it to go to the vet. It's 1st kitty appointment is next week.
