he said he threw himself in front of a taxi cab hoping that he would be run over, and killed. I was kinda angry at that. How dare he push that onto the plate of that poor taxi driver, who for the rest of his days would spend his life upset that he had killed a man, a famous man with his car! how selfish! That wonderful man got out of his cab, and helped him across the street. I get how it is to be that desperate, but wow, that taxi driver would have spent his whole life feeling horrible so montel could have his family collect insurance. stupid if you ask me.

I agree with you, but in his defense he Did say it was wrong, foolish, & he did regret ever thinking or doing it. Star or not, he is just as we are...I for one understand "that" feeling of numbness where you think you are doing the right thing....He was in a Very depressed state of mind. I would of course NOT want to be on the other side of someones suicide! You are right, who deserves to get stuck with that! How aweful it must be...
I know just from my own accident,, that the poor girl who hit me with her car was Freaked right out for years. She told me she cried herself to sleep every night until we finally met & I was able to comfort her to let her know it was ok...I was ok....& it was an Accident. The thought that someone would Intentionally put this guilt onto an innocent person is horrible.....He simply was not of sound mind, & I believe that was one of his points being made. |

Right, Montel was depressed and obviously not thinking clearly on that day he threw himself in front of that taxi cab. He obviously didn't think everything through. But really, if the taxi cab had hit him and killed him it would have been looked upon, I think, as an accident and hopefully the taxi driver would not have been blamed. Then again had Montel been killed, we wouldn't have known what his thought process was at the time. To me, Montel has always seemed to be a sympathetic, empathetic person.
I did see the show yesterday and thought it was good, but there were some inconsistencies. I think at the very least there should have been a neurologist there teaching about MS. Better yet, an MS Specialist. At times, you could tell Montel was teaching Dr. Oz things. I've never heard that about the MS Hug either. I went on Oprah.com and a lot of people are writing in about yesterday's show. I hope they do a follow up show to clear up the inconsistencies, have an MS Specialist speak ,etc. Add to the panel, David Landers, Clay Walker, Meredith Vierra and her husband, Tamia and Teri Garr. |

Dxed in '03 but pretty sure depression was my first symptom a year before that. My fragile male ego finally gave in to seeing a doc because came so close to stepping out of my work truck and in front of a big rig to end the pain. BUT! I sought help and got it and now I'm here to annoy you. HA! *not fishing for compliments because I am the MonSter MS fears.

i saw it too. my first thought was that i'm glad they spent a whole 30" or more on MS. at least she has a large audience. i think most of it was informative but agree that some things were overstated.
this is terrible to say but i thought he looked good too and tried to banish the thought. i thought "why is his walking so good?". overall, at least MS got some exposure.

Watched about 15 minutes and turned off the tv. Something about that man just makes me want to scream "Ha! So now you get it? When you were first dx'd you thought if you ate right and exercised the ms wont get you! If you let it ms get you, you weren't trying hard enough. Yea, welcome back to the real world Montel."
I know he means well but he turned off a lot of people back when he was first dx'd. His attitude does seem to have changed now that his ms has reared it's ugly head. Only time will tell. Glad to see ms getting out there more. Oprah has a huge following. I just hope people don't think everyone with ms lies around crying and wanting to kill themselves. It's just my opinion so please don't take what I say to heart. I wrote Montel years ago about how I felt so what I said here has been communicated to him or one of his staff. lol

I actually watched about 15 minutes of the show. My work schedule is skewed right now and I was home when it was on and when I turned the TV on expecting the news I got Montel/Oprah.
I've never liked the guy (crybaby) but he did say one thing - about every morning he wakes up the first thing he thinks about is whether or not he can walk. That's my first thought. I get out of bed, stand there, take a step, and give a silent "ok, another day." When I was dx'ed in 1988 I was told: 15% chance - die within a year of pneumonia 15% chance - no more episodes of MS, die at age 60 of pneumonia 40% chance - get slowly worse but stay mostly functional, die at age 60 of pneumonia 30% chance - get worse, eventually end up in a wheelchair, die at age 60 of pneumonia Guess what. The hug ain't gonna get ya. Pneumonia will. The guy who told me that was 99 years old at the time and a lead MS neurologist in Ohio who had seen a LOT of MS patients. Tom |
