Abel, see my post about Ambien in the forum about Sleep Apnea and Sleep Disorders, about half way down the page "Ambien Tips & Tricks". Main point is that the stomach should be empty when you take it, because food / sugar / alcohol will make Ambien absorb too slowly to work. Might be the same for other meds like your Lunesta.
Try eating nothing for 4-6 hours before bedtime. I only allow myself to sip a little milk so my tummy doesn't gnaw at me. It sucks having to go to bed hungry, but getting to sleep is such a relief! If my tummy is totally empty, I'm conked out in 15 mins. If I have eaten more than a couple bites of anything, it can take an hour or more and have to take another one. I hope this trick works for you. I have the same awful insomnia problem that I rarely feel sleepy (but tired a lot of the time) and nothing works for me. Ambien was a godsend 15 years ago and still is to this day for me. Do check out that post I mentioned in the other forum so you know how to keep from developing too much tolerance, too. |

Dr. Polanko is a primary care doctor. He can refer you to the right speicalist, or may be able to help you himself as he did for me. ginnie

Hi Abel,
I had some periods of insomnia due to meds, mainly steriod shots. Sorry do not have much more to recommend, but, one day at my neuro's there was a college football player, huge guy, PCS. His wife was saying that he never really slept, and had stayed awake for days like you. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. |

Abel,
There is a new magnesium supplement called Magtein. It is supposed to be more available to the brain. The brain needs magnesium to sleep correctly. I have some on order from Amazon. The anecdotal reviews mention it being a big help for sleep issues. I will be reporting here and on Amazon when I have tried it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think docs. are going to prescribe any of the kinds of drugs that are really dangerous. Whom ever you decide to see, document all that is happened to you, and all the medications you have tried. Things like seconal, numbutal, that kind of thing, you would really have to find a specialist, and no doubt do the sleep study. I wish you all the best. ginnie
