Default PCS and very lost injury was 2 weeks ago

I really dont know what i am doing here. I need someone to talk to. someone who has been through this too. I was assaulted which is what led to my brain injury. at the hospital i told them i fell down the stairs. i went to neuro and told them what really happened. they gave me really scarey meds for my migraines i will not take. the antivert for my dizzyness helps but not completely. my brain is no longer my brain. the first 6 days i couldnt really talk well and was hugging the walls to walk bc of the dizziness. i do not think the way i used to. the visuals are completely different in my mind. its like a comic book and youve only ever seen one artist and writer doing it then all of a sudden both got changed. my memory used to be amazing i could remember things most people cant so for me to have a bad memory is really weird. im having issues articulating how i feel and half the time i think of what to say i forget. i really dont know what to say here. i guess i just feel like i need to talk to someone who has been through this. i seem better in some ways so no one seems to get that im still not ok. i cant drive i had to quit my job which royally sucks bc after two years in office work i finally realized i was meant for horticulture and had been working at a plant nursery/farm. id just gotten a promotion. now its all been taken from me. idk how to feel i feel confused alot like literal confusion not just "idk what i feel like doing" its more like I DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING.

I know it is scary, but you are pretty early into what must have been a pretty bad injury.
Like a broken bone , a head injury can take time, sometimes longer than we want it to.

Read the sticky threads on the TBI/PCS forum main page above the list of threads.
here is the TBI/PCS main page , you will see the sticky threads with little green circles with arrows -

i will read that. in regards to what you have said. I have broken multiple bones. ive had 4 kids. i have never ever been this injured. yes it is scarey. for many reasons. like for instance no one can tell you when you will be ok and normal. and its amazing to me the level of apathy people have. i dont understand. everyone thinks oh youre better or are frustrated bc i am not better. people have taken a very "walk it off" approach this. my fiance even accused me of playing up my symptoms. i guess thats why i am here i just want someone to talk to who will actually listen to me or better yet understand bc they are in it too

grapeseed,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. I am so sorry hear of your assault. We have a few here who have been assaulted. I am one of them but my assault was nothing like yours.

The scary existence you are enduring is not uncommon. Hopefully, with time some of your struggles will lessen to the point where you can feel better able to connect with others. Please understand that we are hear for you.

Struggles with words is common. It does get better.

How long has it been since your assault ?

What kind of care are you receiving ?

My best to you.

it happened on june 13th. i have been to the er twice and the neurologist once. the er gave me antivert for the dizziness and the neurologist gave me generic topomax which was terrifying i wont take it again. it was given to me for the headaches but its an anti seizure med and it has terrible side effects. it made the crap in my head worse made me depressed. they gave me something to help me sleep. other than that no other treatments. they did a brainwave test and a ct test. no brain bleeds from the ct but brainwave test the dr never called me with results. i found other employment i found a job i can work from home. everything is so weird. i hear things weird. nothing sounds the same. my head was slammed into a door frame repeatedly and the back of my ear was sliced open on the metal thats commonly at the bottom of the door and my head was then slammed several times onto hardwood floor with concrete under it.

grapeseed,

I finally notice that your injury was two weeks ago. That means you are still very early in your recovery. I suffered a concussion decades ago and ended up speaking in slow slurred speech for three days. I did not realize my speech was slurred.

There is a YouTube video series called "You Look Great" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Xso4qGdlI

If you can get any of your family and friends to watch it, it will be helpful. The TBI Survival Guide at www.tbiguide.com is also very good.

If you can make it through the TBI Guide, you may learn how to explain your symptoms. Others see us as healthy but don't realize the struggles we are going through inside.

The explanation I often use that people usually understand a bit is : " I have a brain injury that has left me with an auditory processing disorder so my brain often struggles to understand what others are saying, especially if they speak fast." Sometimes, I just say I have an auditory processing disorder.

I may explain that the part of my brain that recognizes faces and connects them to names does not function correctly.

I have learned to rehearse the words I want to say, even a few times, before I speak them. It can make a big difference.

Believe us, there are plenty here who understand.

My best to you.

oh and to both of you i have noticed that the dizziness is affected by neck movement and there is alot of discomfort in my neck. my neuro didnt get all of my symptoms he just seemed to focus on my headaches. i didnt even get to tell him all the issues there are. i wouldnt think there would be treatment for most of them. but he did mash down on that part of my neck and asked if it hurt. i yelled but he never addressed that part of my injuries the rest of the appt. the bad thing is im on state insurance and hes the ONLY neuro i can find. i feel like no one cares at all. they wanted me to go back to work. i was like how i cant drive. i dont understand. i dont think they understand.

Probably your c1 & c2 vertebra got misaligned, and that can cause some symptoms , along with actual neck muscle pain from the assault.

I don't know if you have any upper cervical chiropractors nearby.. or any highly skilled chiros that might also do soft tissue therapies..
The one I found was not a specialist but did study upper cervical adjusting- it is not the same as mainstream chiro - no grab and jerk for the c1c2 adjusting.. it is very gentle.. Mine also did regular adjustments and soft tissue treatments...

Perhaps another type of dr is needed - a good general dr, physical med dr or osteopath?
Expert/advanced PT possibly?

What state are you in ?

You may get more comprehensive care from a Physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) They are often associated with rehabilitation hospitals.

Your neck is likely also injured. An upper neck injury can cause head aches and a myriad of symptoms that overlap with concussion symptoms. Icing your neck as often as possible will likely help.

Check out the Vitamins sticky up top. It has lots of good information.

Grapeseed,

I am sorry to hear about your assult. 2 weeks is still very early for your recovery you will likely return to normal but it will take time. There is a medicine in ayurveda known as medhya rasayana(google it) its a powerful combination of herbs which are meant to rejuvenate your nervous system, memory booster, calm you down, antidepressant and anti stress, helps with sleep and gives your brain a new life. I take this now and see a world of a difference in me only in a few days. It has made me happy and alert and I am sleeping like a baby!

It's an alternative if you don't want to try drugs and without side effects. It will improve your speech also. You can go to any ayurveda doctor and ask for this stuff. Don't start taking this without consulting a doctor please. Yoga and breathing exercises will compliment while taking this medicine. Good luck
