Hello and thank you all in advance for any help anyone can give. I have been sick for about two years and no one can seem to figure out why. Every time I eat I have diarrhea with in minutes of eating. I have had every test done that you can of they even sent me down to Boston to there big hospitals and still nothing. The only test that came back positive is the lactose intolerant test and at that time I cut all dairy out and still do and still can not eat. I also have low or no vit B12 and have been getting injections once a month and I feel good for four days then back to sick. At times when been tested my B12 is 0 ??? I want the shots every four days ..I feel like that is the only thing that would make me feel better. I have lost so much weight that now I am around 100 lbs and lose a few more every time I see my dr. This has also interfered in my marriage and I just keep getting sicker a weaker. Does any body have any ideas or could tell me why the b12 makes me feel better for about four days ??? Thanks everyone !!!!

Welcome to NeuroTalk Nailgurl!
![]() ![]() Did they do a colonoscopy to look at your colon lining? Also, did they do a endoscopy to look at your stomach lining? I would guess that you have some sort of digestive disorder or major allergy. Have you tried eliminating wheat and gluten? Take a look at some of the following forums and try posting your questions there. We have a lot of nice people here and they should be able to give you some ideas on how to feel better. The allergy forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum90.html The autoimmune disease forum: (That includes digestive disorders) http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum44.html The gluten (wheat allergy) sensitivity forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum13.html I hope your doctors can figure out what it is and help you get relief.

Welcome to NeuroTalk.
Your post sounds quite alarming to me. One cannot live long with a B12 reading of zero. You can take daily B12 orally, for pennies a day. Here is an informational thread I made a while ago combining the newest information for people visiting here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread85103.html Typically when people are so low in B12 after testing, it may be given daily for 7 days by injection, then weekly for a few months, until the levels become normal. Then injections once or twice a month. Today we know that oral use of methylcobalamin can cost pennies a day, and is very effective, so injections are not really needed past the acute phase. I'd call your post very acute! You should be tested to see if you are gluten intolerant, which may impair B12 absorption from food. Hereditary problems are called pernicious anemia, and require B12 treatment for life. When B12 is very low for a long time, you may become permanently disabled. Some damage to the spinal cord or brain may not heal if beyond repair.

While the actual serum levels from the injection, typically fall off at 72 hrs, there might still be some floating around, giving a false positive. This subject is pretty complex. I think you need to carefully read the links we have gathered over time, so that you can understand this situation better. Some homework is inevitable, and don't assume all doctors are up to date on this subject. Many don't even know what methylcobalamin IS, for example. On the link I gave you there is a link to American Association of Family Physicians, which is an teaching article on this subject for doctors to read. In it are recommendations to use ORAL B12 supplements. They do not go so far as to explain using on an empty stomach--which is the best way to do orally, but the article is very good otherwise. It is from 2003, and not that "new" anymore. Table 4 gives suggested dosing. Here it is again: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030301/979.html
